As a Vancouver Island resident Helijet is definitely our preferred way to get to Vancouver but we usually find ourselves on the ferry. I laughed when you called it a "little island off the coast of Vancouver" so I looked it up. Google search says its roughly the size of Belgium, Taiwan and Jamaica...not so little!

If Noel wants to go to a true little Island then he needs to go to Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay. It’s a small island and home to an old federal prison. I think that his kids would like it too. The views of San Francisco and the surrounding bay are great as well. It would be a fun day out if Noel and his family ever comes to San Francisco for a holiday.

For those wondering, there's actually a shortcut through the SeaBus terminal adjacent to the heliport. You do need to go through the fare gates, then at the bottom of the stairs on the water side of the overpass there's a door you can go out to get to the Heliport.

Noel you should have taken the stop-over in Victoria and had lunch in the Sticky Wicket Pub, which is a helf hour walk round the headland from the heliport
I've done Vancouver to Victoria by ferry (inforsed after 911 !) Seattle to Victoria by tourist ferry (go funny looks as I has booked a one way journey !)
Flown back both times from Victoria International to Vancouver ( and onward to UK) and on both times I did this I was disrupted by a vist of Prince Charles on a visit to Vancouver Island (which is NOT a small island 283 miles long !)

I’m loving this series of flights to BC Noel, takes me right back to when I was there in 2019. It’s a great place for avgeeks. I’ve travelled between Victoria and Vancouver on the ferry, with Harbour Air and also Helijet. All are pretty cool if I’m honest but my favourite is on the Harbour Air seaplane service. Their bases in Victoria and Vancouver are better situated than Helijet’s, the fares are generally cheaper and I find departing from and alighting on water a special experience. As other people have said, you should spend a bit longer in Victoria, it’s a very nice city though I’m biased as my daughter lives there!

Noel, you would have made it if you would have went back to the seabus terminal (Waterfront Station) there was an exit door at the bottom of escalator just before you get on the seabus that would have led you to the Helijet Terminal.

Great to hear that signature gearbox whine in the S-76 A Model again. I have 5000 hours flying S-76s in offshore oil and onshore charter and its my favourite helicopter to fly, albeit the A Model is under powered as evidenced by the way it staggered off Victoria Island. Lots of familiar beep trim matching going on!

If helicopters are your 'thing', you might enjoy this part of the world too! There are quite a variety used here, there is also a place on Vancouver Island that specializes in helicopter maintenance and refits, helicopters are actually sent there from around the world to be taken care of.
The combination of distance, terrain and accessiblity means helicopters are used a lot.our electricity company, 'BC Hydro" can only maintain many of its lines from helicopters, with workers strung below them. Like other companies in remote or hard to reach areas, they will also make use of heavy lift helicopters - the island I work on renewed a whole lot of power line pylons a few years ago. Each one was flown over from the big island, fully made, and just requiring bolting down on arrival. As well as moving equipment, heavy lift helicopters and sky cranes are used in heli-logging as well as fighting forest fires. Where they have the advantage of being able to lift water out of something as small as a backyard pool, where planes require a large area to refill from.

We flew just above the waves and just offshore. Then over a simulated combat zone, low-level at high speed, then diving down cliff faces with high speed manoeuvres and the doors off the aircraft. When the plague has gone away you have to do it! We will be doing it again.

If you tried the ferries, many of the BC ferries out of Tsawwassen have quiet, buffet style restaurants over the stern. Beautiful views of the islands and water as you make a comfortable crossing. However, between a long wait to board the ferry then a two hour ride, Helijet looks like the way to go if I can't fly myself.

I got to fly Air Spur back in the early 80s, a scheduled copter airline. Took it from John Wayne (SNA) to LAX and back on the return leg of a flight out of LAX to EWR.
The cool thing about it was it went out of John Wayne sort of like it was departing the short GA runway (south) but took a really aggressive 2 loop spiral up to about 4000' then up to LAX.
On arrival in that airspace, they came in and went down the south runway approach with a similar spiral. But when they arrived about mid field, they "taxied" about 10' in the air up the taxiways (mostly) but across some grass over to the terminal, and we went up some stairs into about Terminal 5 or 6 or so. Went over to American which was at the time Terminal 2, so a hike.
This looks like a fun adventure, and not outrageously priced to do just for a thing you don't get to do a lot.

If I had the choice I would do both. I have flown the seaplane over to Victoria twice. Harbour Air and West Coast Air. The ferry is not that rickety. You would also enjoy it. Sometimes you might get to see some Whales.

You are right about the ferry, it’s a pretty slick operation and the route through the Gulf Islands from Tawwassen to Swartz Bay through the Gulf Islands is incredibly scenic. If you don’t need to take the car though, the Harbour Air service is my favourite method of travel between BC’s largest city and the province’s capital.

What, no loo review!!!😂🤣. I have not flown by helicopter! The scenery really is beautiful. The ground staff and pilots seem very pleasant and polite! A really cool way to get around.
    Cheers!

Little known, but Vancouver harbor has a control tower. You can even see it in the takeoff shot.

Nice-Monaco is a great helicopter transfer, though it only takes a few minutes.

As someone who has flown this route 30+ times I would definitely say the ferry is my favourite. I just hang out on the deck the whole time, enjoy the ocean air and try to spot a pod of orcas!

It's not just cool. It is Bloody Cool.
When you said it was an airline with no aircraft I thought "Oh No. Not American intercity bus service."
But you are right! It is BLOODY COOL!!!
