  • Tommy James Interview & Greatest Hits Special Part 2 of 2 - WAEB 1986 Rod Wolfe Sunday Night Hall Of Fame Show. December 1985, Tommy James appeared at the WAEB Radio / Laneco “Christmas Spectacular” oldies show at the Stabler Arena, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. I conducted my brief interview just prior to Tommy’s performance on stage. Over the next couple of weeks I wrote the script to incorporate the interview segments. Next I pre-produced a special tribute to Tommy James and The Shondells on reel to reel tape. Notes recently found indicated that I aired the tapes on January 19, 1986.
For this CZcams video I have added one additional video segment to the original Part 2: from my VHS oldies tapes I have inserted a portion of a 1987 New Year’s Eve performance by Tommy James and The Shondells . Taped at the Palm Springs CA. Convention Center, the oldies celebration was eventually aired 1988 on broadcast TV. I recorded the show from WFMZ Channel 69 in the Lehigh Valley. Tommy’s appearance that night ended with “Mony Mony” and the Convention Center was rockin’ from wall to wall.
My original and announced plan to air the Tommy James Greatest Hits special on my January 5th show were sadly delayed by the tragic death of Rick Nelson on New Year’s Eve of 1985. I instead prepared a lengthy tribute to Nelson that aired on that night’s show. The Tommy James special tribute as originally produced and in its entirety, was then broadcast January 19, and only that one time during the history of my Sunday night shows. This digital restoration for CZcams is a transfer of my Reel to Reel tape show.
I hope you enjoy this original January 19, 1986 Sunday Night Hall of Fame show tribute to Tommy James and The Shondells, as broadcast on WAEB - AM 790 AM.
The Sunday Night Hall of Fame Show was broadcast from 1980 to 1992 on WAEB AM 790 and WKAP AM 1320 and again from 1999 until September 2001 on WODE - Oldies 99.9 FM. All three radio stations were located in the Allentown - Bethlehem - Easton, PA area, also known as “The Lehigh Valley”..
(Music in this video, which I produced, features segments from my original radio broadcast January 19, 1986 on WAEB - AM 790, Allentown - Bethlehem - Easton, Pa. I was a contract employee of WAEB: writing, producing and hosting The Sunday Night Hall of Fame Show. Some special segments of the shows were pre-produced and recorded. Those original tapes were broadcast and I would occasionally preserve the original tapes that I provided.)
