I remember back when Tiffany released her version of this, I completely thought it was her song and my grandma loved it so much and then said the original was better😳😳😳
I was blown away when she busted out this vinyl and played it for me. It was my “rabbit hole” journey that took me to a whole new world of music to me!!! RIP to my wonderful grandmother. I MISS YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!😭😭😭😭

When I first heard this, it was on a classic rock station on a stereo that didn't tell you info about the song or the band. Heard again recently in passing(also like 10 years ago in the movie Ted) and looked it up. Got the Tiffany version first and thought it was good, but not what I remembered. Next on CZcams results was a solo cover by the lead singer of Green Day, and immediately knew this wasn't the version, mostly because Green Day didn't exist when I had first heard it. So third in the results is this, original, version, that I was looking for all along for a very specific reason....the heartbeat. When the music and lyrics completely cut out for the deep heartbeat sound, it distinguishes itself from, even more than the already great singing and instrumentals, the covers and comes out on top, imo.

@@ArrowArchitect Exactly how I felt when my grandmother played this for me. It was unbelievable that such a hit was made way before my time that was even better than Tiffany’s cover. Tiffany’s cover was like a prime example of what the 80s represents but then when you go back and listen to this original, 😳😳😳😳 MIND BLOWING how far ahead they were in song writing!!!! It reminds of Marty McFly’s cover of “Johnny be Good” from Back to the Future! How he was playing music from a future generation. This is what this song did to me.

This is THE song that perfectly describes my senior year of high school with my girlfriend and how we had to “hide what we’re doing” because what would our parents say “if they only knew”. We spent many Friday and Saturday nights after games alone together where “the beating of our hearts was the only sound”. We eventually were married and together for nearly 20 years and had 2 amazing sons before we divorced. (Like so many of our generation). She was recently killed in a tragic gun incident and and I find myself remembering those amazing high school years, the great music, and just how very special those years were for us. 13,000+ likes and only 358 dislikes? I graduated high school in 1966 and college in 1970. Can you imagine a time when the radio was filled with stations all playing this sort of music? The music back then literally defined our lives, especially when I was in the Army. When I hear a song of some artist back in those days, I'll immediately have a flashback of somewhere or something I was doing at that time. Truly remarkable times. In our teens and early twenties, we hadn't the maturity or age to understand how fortunate we were. Only with 20/20 hindsight of 55+ years can I look and listen back and truly value what we had.

Quintessential pop and rock song of all time. Tommy James...Shondells. Johnny Rivers...Boston. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an embarrassing joke for keeping these great rock performers out. Isaac Hays basically had one hit and is in the Hall of Fame. These other three have had incredible lists of several hits and they are not in the Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame is not real or even worthy of anyone's attention. Without Tommy James and the Shondells, rock and pop music is incomplete and missing its soul.

So much life I could have enjoyed instead of sitting on my ass watching TV and working at a computer all day long. :::sigh:::
