Apparently, Robert Sheenan (klaus) said in an interview that he shot this scene on his first day on set, the same day he met the cast 😂

I like how they're shy/hesitant, at first, like they're afraid Reginald will storm in and punish/lecture them; like they're still getting used to being free from him ... whether Luther admits it or not.
I feel like it also has something to do with the mixed memories of being in their childhood home and being all under one roof for the first time in ages
@@acebarrett8258 - That too. 👍

* Reginald dies *
The Hargreeves:
Terrible. Let´s dance
That's the scene's symbolism.
Now that their dad is dead, they are free of him from the rest of their lives(well, except for Klaus)
That's why they're dancing and the song is "I think we're alone now".
Cause now they're alone.
Oh no. Anyway.
Not terrible but terrific :-)
Reggie didn’t die they faked his death

Here before this comment to 1k, because it should 😂
IM DEADDD 😂😂😂
This is a fantastic early character study of each person in the show, allowing viewers to get a good look into who they are. And really clever. It's entertaining, but also, informative. Each character here manifests their own personality in their method of dance, and if you only saw this one scene, you'd get a pretty good insight into their nuances.
Great directing all around.
No joke, this scene is what made me watch the show. I searched for "I Think We're Alone Now" randomly one day because I love the song, and videos for this scene all came at the top of the search results, because season 1 had only come out recently. I watched the video, and I was intrigued enough to turn on Netflix and watch the show. Fell in love with it very quickly.
Yep, this was the moment i fell in love with the show too. You hit the nail on the head with how this one scene, with ZERO DIALOGUE, showcases their personalities perfectly!
I love the way this show used music as part of the scenes: a participant, a separate character almost, and not as a backdrop or setting for them.
Perfect "Show Don't Tell" moment.
Diego let’s loose . I love it
you can also tell that, despite their dysfunctionality, something will always bring them together.
This scene is so wholesome, even though they’ve taken different paths and have drifted from eachother - they’re still connected through the somewhat good memories they were able to make within that home and Ofc blasting this sick song throughout the house.
@Ed Findlay family bond that formed over good memories together 💀 you gotta spend time and know someone to get a bondz
Even if we cn't see him, I choose to believe Ben is also dancing somewhere in the house.
I genuinely don’t doubt he is. He’s probably dancing in the kitchen with Klaus.
He’s probably next to klaus, thinking how much of an idiot he is-
:')♡
Of course!
HAHAHAHAHA THIS IS HILARIOUS
Everyone talking bout Ben but how bout Reginald Hargreeves.
Man is killing it with Klaus

He can only comune with ben when hes high
I love that Diego closes the door so no one sees him dancing. 😂
DnG OA I say Diego’s got better moves than Allison, Klaus, Luther and Viktor do. ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
And then dances better than anyone
Diego really loves this, he was even the one dreaming of the epic dance off in season 3
Diego took "dance like nobody's watching" literally lol
Can we all appreciate Luther for turning on the song and literally brings up the mood of every family member
Considering he's a complete asshole in every other way, not really.
One of the few things he did in s1 that didn't annoy me so much that I wanted to remove his eyelids.
@@realnamebutitisnt.6610 "she stays put" like go suck some f**king moonrock spaceboy you idiodic piece of s**t.
Ok but, how loud is that fuckin thing? Sonogram or whatever it was called was being heard through like the entire house lmao. I want one
@@realnamebutitisnt.6610I really liked Luther later on. He’s adorable. I think in season one he was trying to hard to still please his dad and be number one, and he realized his mistake
They're all in the same house, enjoying the same thing, but all closed off from each other. There's something symbolic about this.
Telling us about future event ? Corona virus ?
pepsi man aye aye ayeeeeee
Agreed! The common thread of surviving as orphans..
In my point of view , i think they wanted to dance with each other , but what kept them from doing that , the feeling of being alone , the freedom of being alone , not trying to share their happiness when everyone else is shocking you with their own life and emotions, they are all feeling the same but they cant share it, since they all are not used to sharing their emotions through the way they were raised by their strict dad
Hence the song selection.
This was the scene that hooked me. Like, the show was good up to this point but this scene humanized each character and made them relatable. Best scene in the whole series.
This scene made each character human and adorable.
How just by dancing?
@@ZephyrBW yes, each dance is unique and remark the personality of each one, more away than their own powers. Maybe for that, later in the show, number 5 is the more inhuman, at least for me.
@@Natgal_94 Well 5 was trapped in future hell for 50 years and went on to be the best god fucking killer in the timeline. So yeah i think its totally understandable why he's so inhuman
I think it also highlights how perfect the casting is...apparently the only direction they gave the actors for this scene was 'dance how you think your character would dance,' but it gave the audience such a good glimpse into their personalities

@@childhoodtoysmodifier5639 lol honestly I would have punched myself if I said that
@@BarreNoneBallet I finished the show can't wait for season 3
This scene is so powerful for anyone who has been traumatized by an abusive parent. The symbolism in the lyrics, “I think we’re alone now,” is clearly telling us that, when their father wasn’t in the house, they’d blast this song and express their momentary liberty through dancing-and, now that he is truly gone, they can finally be free
The opening lines are pertinent to their situation growing up too...
"Children behave, that's what they say when we're together .
And watch how you play
They don't understand
And so we're
Running just as fast as we can,
holding on to one another hands"
Damn, bro., you spittin
Kevin McClintock he’s explaining perfectly the meaning and feeling behind this scene but it’s cool if you don’t get it. Hell I didn’t have a truly fucked up upbringing but I resonate with this from having a stern father. Props to Zach and Patrick for they’re (correct, date I say?) take on this
Or they are just listening it to remember the old times.😉
I saw a meme that said this and I came here to look at this clip and I totally see it differently now
I love that at the start the volume of the song varies depending on which sibling is being focused on, meaning Luther was blasting this song so hard that everyone could hear this song clearly enough to vibe along to it.
Luther: *giggity giggity crabbity giggity*
Diego: mans talented enough to get into AGT solely on the basis of that performance
Alison: weird sexy dance like she's in an 80s musical
Klaus: high dance after probably smoking dad's ashes
Vanya: just vibing

This is one of my favorite scenes in a TV show. It’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s a perfect break from the somber tone, and it shows this whole family still cares about each other weather they admit it or not
i cant explain how many times i came back to this video because everybody is killing their dances and this scene is just so iconic pls
This is honestly my favorite scene in the entire series. All these siblings had their differences, grown apart, went through bad events, all still have a good time dancing like no one's watching, from a song they all loved in their childhood. Even if their "father" was just cremated.
Except for our little psycho
Agreed. This is the scene that makes you realize they grew up together as siblings. Even being in different rooms, separated from one another.... they really aren't separated at all.
Agreed!
Like my family
This is the scene that really sold me on how fun this show could be!
it’s such a shame ben and five weren’t introduced at this point
Five comes in right at the end. He wouldnt have danced. Hes too old to do what the kids are doing. IMO both of them needed separate intros because of the badassness that they are.
Bill Beason i’d imagine he’d at least tap his foot/nod to the rhythm and smile a bit, which would’ve been cute!

Who’s here after the “footloose dance scene” in season 3
God i miss the 80’s.
This scene is textbook characterisation:
Luther is clumsy but optimistic
Diego is cautious but skillful
Vanya is muted and held back
Allison relies on the objects around her to enhance her dance
Klaus is having a careful ballet with the dead
Their dances mimic their personalities
Thank you to the comments for the likes and the people being salty
I only recently figured out how to change my avatar
Wow that's so nicely put
Not only that, but also consider the locations that each character is dancing in. Vanya is dancing in the entrance hall, something that hints at the idea that she has very little personal connection to actually living in the house, while Allison and Luther are both in their own rooms. Diego has some connection, but more as someone who is familiar with the place but doesn’t want to live there on a more permanent basis, and also in the opposite end of the house from Luther in the cross section. Klaus is literally dancing underground, given that he’s in the basement, but it’s also dark and filled with mismatching objects, perhaps a connection to his struggles with addiction and death.
Their dances can also indicate levels of socialisation, with Diego and Allison being the most comfortable living in the outside world, while Klaus and Vanya the least. It also hints at what each character considers to be important or something that has shaped them; Luther has his ideals (accidentally punching the plane) Allison has the show of success (dance moves that emphasise the importance of the dancer) Diego has his independence and self identity (constantly on the move, running motions) Klaus has his never ending link to the dead (he’s dancing with a frickin urn!) Vanya has the idea of emptiness, that she has always struggled with self expression.
A lot of things like this happen somewhat intuitively when building a scene, but all of them are themes that end up carrying in the show, because as Sam said earlier, their dances mimic their personalities.
Wow
It's almost like it was meant to be obvious
Sorry

I have watched this scene so many times and continue to because it is just very comforting and a great way to release all the tension and trauma going on. They may be in their separate spaces, but they are very much together as well. This is one of many powerful scenes in the whole series! ♥️🙏🏼
When this show ends the final scene needs to be a dance scene with all the siblings together along with their significant others such as Lila and salown

Ginny What doesn’t matter, she’s so cute
this scene right here is what got me hooked. so symbolic especially Klaus dancing with his father's ashes as if all he ever wanted was his love even if they were alone he'd accept his affection just once if he could
Poignant how they’re all doing the same thing (dancing) but each of them are in separate rooms. They all want the same thing deep down, but there are literal and metaphorical barriers keeping them from truly being together. Great way of showing (not telling) what their main goal will be for the rest of the show: finding a way to smash those walls and reunite as the true family that they are, outside of their father’s cruel shadow.
Klaus dancing with the urn is so appropriate to how their unresolved issues shaped him and stopped him from growing, which isnt dissimilar from Diego
Comic Klaus was cool but this show really made his character complex
Each of their dances reflect their characters well. Luther is too big for his own environment (literally in this case), Allison is a glamorous star and showcases her hollywood side in here, Diego is the wild child who closes himself off and is afraid to show his full self to anyone, Klaus is literally dancing with the dead, and Vanya's awkward dance is just like how she feels like the odd one out in her own family.
Wondering if anyone else had picked up on the symbolism of Klaus danceing with his dad ashes. Thought that was a great touch, and as justin clowater said danceing with the dead which i jsut got nice.
If you enjoyed Klaus, you should watch Misfits, there Robert Sheehan plays a pretty similar character (which is the reason I belive this Klaus act like that instead of how he is in the comics)
God vanya’s dance is impossible to learn.
I saw something abt how it works bc of the way music works, and how her upper body is going with the off beat and her lower body is going with the beat, and how this requires a good understanding of music

This song came on the car radio, so my brother and I sang along and jammed out. My mom just looked at us in confusion and asked, "Since when do you like Tiffany?"
"I think we're alone now and the beating of the heart is the only sound"
This could also forshadow the scene where Vanya escapse the bunker and definitely becomes the white violin in the end...
Not the end. Watch s2, it’s brilliant
@@stephenjennings555 he means end of season 1
Gives me chills to think that they all started like this and she ends up nearly killing them all.
Luther doing a crab dance is the most wholesome thing ever.
The character development in this show is sooooooo suuuuuch goodness
My best friend just got me into this series, and I grew attached to all these characters just from seeing this!
