Yeah it's more about their friendship and hardship....you noticed whenever they are together they are happy but alone they are all struggling in their lives.
You will understand it better as the story progresses.
Everytime someone reacts to I need you, they make the same assumptions and i faceplam so hard. Although i understand it's what is expected normally from ppl fed on boy-girl love and break up themed songs mostly. I am proud that i never assumed this general love equation and realized it was more of friendly companionship they are talking about, even when i was newly introduced to bts. There are many more such bts songs, locals would think as normal love songs but they are not and that's the best part of being ARMY, you know they are deeper and more meaningful than that 😁

The lyrics of this song has nothing to do with the storyline actually... To simplify it, each of the boys were having a hard time of their own but when they're together, they can at least enjoy the moment and forget their problems... To identify which one is who:
1. Suga was in the burning room.
2. Jimin was in the bath tub.
3. J-Hope passed out/fell asleep(narcolepsy) on the bridge.
4. Jungkook was beaten up by the two guys on the street.
5. Jin was holding the 6 flower petals (referring to the other 6 members)
6. RM was working in the gas station.
7. V (Taehyung) stabbed his father for abusing him and his sister.

I‘ve never been the type of person who is a „hugh fan“ of any celebrity out there. Of course I have my favorite musicians, but I never felt the need to stay updated for anyone until I found out about BTS. I believe it is because they are so creative with the content they put out and their lyrics always have a deeper meaning to them, which I can identify with. The fact that they write and produce nearly every song is so inspiring to me.

personally, i think 'girl' is just a metaphor. Means it could anything that someone they love. Maybe girlfriend, bestfriend, sibling, parents, etc. Its just open for your interpretation. Thats the beauty of BTS music videos.
I think the lyrics have nothing to do with the video lol. Most of the time they don't, but sometimes they do. Reading the webtoon, Save Me" will help a lot with the story

It would be long to explain all the video but you should know that BTS imagined fictional stories around each member and who are in one way or another related to each other; the goal is to get messages on the issues that can go through the youth such as: depression, suicide, domestic violence, misery or despair … Of course, they also insinuate that we must turn to people who love you and communicate while waiting for the system to take more into consideration the concerns of youth
a little spoiler the storyline is fantasy genre with social phenom in it. its a deep storyline that depends on the interpretation of the watcher. 💜 the storyline the lyrics the personality and everything bout them once you get to know them its hard not to love them and their work
BTS is beyond amazing when it comes to storyline,theory and their lyrics of their songs that they personally wrote.
BTS is deep.... you are not getting meaningless song and dance with them. There is meaning to every little detail and the wordplay you will see is amazing. When you do a song, check and see if there is a video explaining it.

The lyrics haven't anything to do with the music video. But for everyone new to BTS I think it is normal to try to connect the lyrics and the video.
Getting to know BTS you will see that these guys have a lot to say and it is right from their hearts.
The storyline is about growing up and maturing. They are talking about the struggles you face while growing into an adult...the temptations you encounter and how important it is to have loving people by your side. These music videos are complex and very metaphor and symbol based. Sometimes you have to watch a video several times to catch up on everything that connects with the other videos. A lot of symbols are recurring...like water for Jimin and fire for Suga...
There is not an official explanation for the storyline. They left it open for interpretation...what is getting everyone hooked and it makes it a lot more relatable.
It gets so deep after you read Demian ;_; and start looking at the simbology of blod sweat and tear, singularity and fake love
really loving your reactions💜 you probably already got comments about it not being about a girl, this is about them & their lives & also another thing to point out is sometimes the lyrics don’t correlate to the story. you don’t know the boys faces yet so it might be confusing but i just want to give background on their lives ( in the story) bc I want you to come up with your own theories until you finish all the videos & watch xceleste video on explaining everything
Jin- has main role in this & i don’t know if telling you what he is will confuse you so I won’t say what he is
Suga- his mom died in the fire when he was young, one of the reasons he tries to die in the fire
J-Hope- his mom left him abandoned when he was a kid & he apparently has narcolepsy
RM- he’s poor so he lives in the in trailer, container thing
Jimin- something happened when he was a kid that scarred him
V- his father was abusive & abused his sister & him
Jungkook- lives with his mom & his stepdad & brother who abuses him
another thing I wanted to add is that there’s pairs so suga & jungkook, v & rm, jimin & j-hope then obviously jin is by himself bc of the role he plays, you’ll start noticing the more you go on

Hey Flo: I remember this journey into BTS well. It's amazing. You'll have so many thoughts about WHY? something happened. BTS makes you think. It's not some brainless music video or lyrics. To me they said through this music video, that we don't know what's happening in others lives. Things may seem okay on the surface but they're not. That when you're with your friends you can forget about your troubles, if only for a brief moment. There is so much symbolism in this video. The thing in real life I love about BTS is that their BOND is STRONG with each other. They take care of each other and it was not easy for them at all. BTS started at rock bottom. Because they didn't have money. They didn't come from a big Agency. They didn't have the advantages that all other groups have. The had to work twice as hard as others. I believe because of their own struggles, is why they put out such: meaningful, deep, thoughtful lyrics/music & music videos. We are here for you if you have any questions.
I think the lyrics are beautiful but it's nothing to do with girl. I think the word "girl" here is symbolised for the boys, the brothers that they adore (You can see in the MV they were happy when they were together but sad when they were alone). They used the word "girl" just because it made the lyric doesn't sound cringy? That's mine opinion...

@@Tharushi_Anthony if you saw the comic, it is clearly about the boys. They all sent through trauma and jin has been traveling through time to save them. Most of the scenes in I need you are in the comic storyline. The lyrics of I need you is about a breakup.

I personally think it's really interesting how BTS plays with the language. If you pay attention, the parts in English are mostly meant for the general audience, having more "empty" or comercial meanings, while korean parts get into deeper messages that would probably be harder to sell if public was able to hear them without actually being interested.

In my opinion, this MV shows particular moments of their difficulties but also shows the happiness moments of the guys when they are together. They have other personal problems with family, with depression, with chemical dependency, old traumas and panic, in addition to his break with his girls. They have particular strugles but when to meet themselves they has happy moments. To me, this is the reason that MV shows us such bipolarity. Some MVs may have its own story, beyond the story line.

This MV related to youth struggles, e.g. domestic violence, teenager poverty, ... Most of their MVs in the last 3-4 years followed the same storyline. The fans were guessing what happened to each character in the last few years. Finally, BTS published the storyline as a webtoon “Save Me” half year ago. You can watch the webtoon. It will help you to interpret the MVs.
I think the MV shows each member of them has their own trouble in life. But they look fine when they are together, they can make fun when they get together.

I won't tell you what it's about, because that is the fun and crazy part of the journey you take when you watch the storyline. But trust me, it has so much DEPTH and meaning behind it, you'll have a lot of fun watching it.
ALSO, at 3:20 it makes COMPLETE sense why you feel the sadness and beauty of the music video. The Korean symbols you see in the beginning of the videos/movies mean "The Most Beautiful Moments in Life"

They do a great job in this MV to introduce you to the complex storyline, showing each of the boys' struggles and issues (the song's lyrics can be attributed to the storyline if you take it allegorically, and not them literally singing about a girl - a general rule about BTS songs - unless there's an actual girl, it's never about a significant other - and even when there IS a girl in the music video, she can be symbolic for something else (or even a representation for ARMY)):
- RM - poor, works at a gas station where he's treated like so much garbage, smokes (if you notice, when he drops the lollipop, it's actually a lit cigarette)
- Jin - in an empty, but clearly nice, house/space, flower/petal motif, mysterious, going through some sort of guilt/depression
- Suga - in a motel room, missing someone, contemplating and then setting fire to his space, with himself still in it, welcoming being consumed by flames
- Hobi - taking pills, collapses on the side of the highway
- Jimin - burning a photo, sinking under the water, seeming to drown himself in the tub
- V - abusive father, finds him beating his sister, stabs him with a broken beer bottle (one of MANY beer bottles - alcoholic father)
- Jungkook - seeks out confrontation, welcomes being beat up, makes no effort to stop it, ends with him crossing the street and headlights flashing up on him (getting hit by a car)
They were friends, they were clearly happy and joyful together, but something has happened. They are all alone, and their lives are falling apart. They've all become depressed, welcoming death, pain, numbness, self-destruction. As a side note, in Korea, they have laws forbidding the depiction of people using knives in aggression, smoking, or child abuse, so you will often see the objects either blurred, or transformed (like into a lollipop) while in use. It is also why they have the 19+ tag, so people understand they will be seeing such images, as well as possible violence or sexually themed content. Not necessarily to prevent minors from viewing it - with internet, that's just about impossible to do - but as a warning of what may be seen.
(I tried to avoid adding any theories, merely stating what you can see during the course of the video, so the interpretation can be left up to the listener/viewer. If I accidentally added any theorizing, sorry, wasn't my intent. Just wanted to be sure none of the finer points got missed or overlooked, though I probably have missed a bunch of clues myself. They have deep lyrics but don't get distracted, when they are talking about girls, they are talking about happiness and each other in this song and also in some future song. Their songs are not about mature love, but about loving yourself, the message BTS is spreading with the UN.

Like many people have already said, *BTS write songs with MUCH deeper meanings than just what you hear.* So, it's almost never what you think, and when they reference love, it's never really about another person; it's usually about loving yourself and many other complicated concepts.
*QUICK TIP:* Please make sure you continue to learn who each member is and be able to *identify them easily,* because like you saw, there is so much going on and it will be extremely difficult to understand what's happening if you can't *connect the individual members and what they are doing in all their MVs.*

Honestly people especially Flo, I'm not your age, I've only known bts here on CZcams since April. I don't know or have never learned English in my school, but what these guys have shown from April to now gets under my skin. They are not just singers, dancers, they are much more. I don't know how many videos I've seen of these so far, I've stopped counting. But I can say one thing with certainty, even if you don't speak English, Russian or any other language, this video shows a story, because nobody needs to understand anything about languages. In this video everything is shown that you would like to know without understanding anything. I am only sitting here because of the bts in front of my pc. I have not subscribed to anything else. I can very well imagine what it's about but can't get a word out of enthusiasm.
