It was the managers who were beating him up and they are extremely close with bts. At this point, they couldn't afford enough actors. The entire time jungkook couldn't stop laughing and smiling because he knew them so well.

Actually, Jungkook kept messing up the takes by breaking character by breaking into the giggles if he looked at their faces because itâs their managers, since they could not afford actors.
The lyrics of this song and the video don't necessarily correlate with each other. The original line was supposed to be I Need U friend but it didn't flow right so it was changed to I Need U girl. This is the beginning of the Bangtan Universe (the fictional storyline that runs through many BTS music videos). Without me spoiling too much the guy V stabs is his father and the girl he was hitting was V's sister. Pairings are also important- Jimin and J-Hope, Jungkook and Suga, RM and V, and Jin isn't apart of a pairing. Another thing you maybe didn't notice is that RM is sucking on a lollipop but when drops the stick it turns into a cigarette. That's because in Korea smoking can't be shown on tv so the lollipop is supposed to represent a cigarette. The Bangtan Universe is certainly a journey that I hope you will continue to react to. It still stumps many ARMY to this day.
Haha I don't think that he will be getting into the BU any time soon, but I suppose is good to have this things in mind.
For me lolipop turn to cigs is what it is literally. Change from child (youngster) to adult (or young adult), from sucking pops to smoking, losing innocence, meeting life head on, learning that society is not fair, easy and for sure not nice.. It is dark symbol but also simple one.
And yes, you can't show cigarette on TV but this turn in MV dosen't have anything to do with this, like you also can't show stabing, drugs, blood and etc. That is why this is 19+ version. And the second version (that was first, put out week and half before this one) was for mainstream, TV, charts, shows and etc. They didn't use this "original" version for promotion, it was relased later for BU but also for more impact. Official MV didn't have all this violent stuff and I think ended quiet hopeful, but I'm sure you know it.

It's a crazy dark storyline connecting MVs, lyrics, books ,webtoons, Mobile game there is a lot to go through so I'm thankful for our ARMY theorists who summarize the whole thing like xcelest who has videos on her channel explaining everything
This is the very dark dramatic start to the BU (Bangtan Universe) story line. It covers the dark stories of youth and the battles they face from child abuse, suicide, poverty, pill abuse, bullying, depression and of course when they are together they can get through anything. Itâs a really stunning risk to take and the story and messages resonated deeply to fans still. Plus weâve been teasing out the complex story with each new bit they release.

This is song that originally drew me in to BTS. My daughter was a fan earlier so i knew them and liked music but the real emotions in this video and then the journey( still ongoing) thru the BU sealed it for me

Oh no Jim. What has you gotten yourself into haha. You don't know what you have gone into. I need you is the creator of everything, and when I say Everything I mean EVERYTHING. Your not ready for what this song has started. I don't know if someone has told you about this yet, but if not here it goes. BTS have something called the BU aka Bangtan Universe. This is an alternative universe where each members places a role in an ongoing story. The story starts with "I need U". How this story works is that you have music videos that connect to one another in an order, and they all tie together to create a story. Till this day there have been many theories for what the story might want to tell us or might be about. But big-hit hasn't given the true conclusion nor ended it yet. The storyline is still continuing. If you search for "BTS storyline" you might see a lot of people breaking their heads to try and figure it out. And trust me when I tell you that some people take more than an hour to just talk about one video. EVERY. LITTLE. DETAIL. COUNTS!!(lol)But it's a true struggle. My head stoped working in the 7th video haha. You still have a long way till you can start the BU and go down the storyline, but I sure can't wait for that moment.
Edit: RM said that in the chorus, "I need you girl" it was originally supposed to be "I need you friend (cause of the BU) but it didn't have a good flow, so they had to change it to girl àČ„âżàČ„.
you're right... I've been army since oct 2020 and I haven't even started getting into the BU, it's a bit intimidating. maybe I will get into it one day but BTS has SO.MUCH.CONTENT. even without the BU sooo... I'm not in a rush

The thing about BTS is that they rarely sing/rap about TRUE romantic feeling and/or actions. The LOVE aspects most of the time are alluding to self love and love for the members, friends, family, AMRY, etc.
This is going to be fun diving into this with you - you are right about the flower Jin has - note it has 6 petals - one for each of trhe other members.
FUN FACT: the song was originally "I Need You Chingu (Friend)", but friend was changed to "girl" to fit with the melody better (and for more sales appeal)
You need to watch the MV with that in mind. Note the difference when they are together as to when they are apart. The lyrics are not the main focus in this in regards to the BU - more what is visually happening.... there is a specific order to the MVs, webtoon, books, etc... I'm sure Suzy and the girls will guide you well.
As excited as I am about you getting into BU, I really hope you continue with albums vs skipping ahead to only BU content. HYYH era is one of my favorites (but I say that about every era) so I'm looking forward to the full album reactions, too. Besides, that way you'll get exposed to BU the same way many ARMY were -- one album at a time, with a bit of relief from trying to analyze the storyline by listening to other great tracks as well.
I'm staying in order of albums. I guess I'll dive into the whole BU once I finish.

I Need You was the song that makes me an Army... back in 2015... I was 16 years old and the connection that I feel with their music and personalities was overwhelming... they were part of my teenage years and now they are part of my Youth...

This is the start of the Bangtan Universe storyline! Whenever you are ready to react to the MV for Run, I would really recommend first reacting to the song Butterfly and the short film On Stage Prologue (with English subtitles). It comes narratively before the Run music video.
I know you like XCelesteâs videos (I think it was her) and she has 2 summaries of the BU storylines. If you want to learn more about it once you finish up the albums (or sooner) that is a great place to start! It explains the flower, each character the members play, why Taehyung stabbed that man (which is a relativeâŠI donât want to spoil it), why Jungkook got beat up and sooo many other things. Itâs really interesting! Youâll love it!
No spoilers! I think when you skipped back to see what happened, you didn't skip far enough đ consider it this way. Guy comes to a room, i guess it's his home considering how he just gets in, and there's a girl being beaten up. And he snaps. It makes sense in a dark way. The storyline keeps going but the videos in themselves reflect a dark reality to some.
The story at the root of the song is a story of youth. BTS explores the dichotomy of angst and optimism, love and hate, and anxiety and fearlessness that defines the teenage experience. They find solace when they are all together. And yes, this is part of Bangtan Universe.
Honestly I could not wait until you'd get into the HYYH era, but now that you're there OH BOY, good luck! It's an emotional rollercoaster from there up until nowadays, just...wait.
Oh, a little inside (people, correct me if I'm wrong, please):
In 2015, when HYYH (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt.1) was released, it was supposedly their last chance, and if that album didn't get the chance to get the recognition it deserved, they were going to disband, but I Need U saved them, so this song helped them be more popular. Their big worldwide breakout came with Blood, Sweat & Tears (the WINGS album) in 2016 :)

The BU is sometimes still referred to as HYYH, which comes from the videos I Need U, Prologue, and Run. These videos are part of the album trilogy The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (kor. íìì°í, Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa â HYYH), and are now widely understood as the foundation of the BU.

These compilations were done back around 2015.

"I NEED U is a special song to me, and i also wrote the intro to hyyh p1. i dont really know why but i considered that song to be the end. the last light. u may think the reason was because we weren't doing well before then but that wasn't actually true, if u looked at the numbers. it wasn't as bad as we thought it was, we just had really high expectations. that's what we thought at the time, that this could be the last. that's why it was like we went all-in and gave it everything we had. i can still remember the emotions i felt back then clearly. the first show we performed INU on was Mcountdwn and i still remember what outfits we wore. we recorded even without an audience. we had shorts and i was the only one in a navy outfit. i felt an emotion i never felt before on that stage. i wondered, why does it feel so sad singing this song? we gave it our everything thinking it could be the last so it was a big turning point of our lives". I wasn't an ARMY at the time this song came out, but I know that it was a new direction for them, particularly sonically, up to that point. And I think it was partly because of that change in music style and with the MV being so different (it's obviously very different to typical kpop music videos; there's not even any choreography), that helped them stand out & break through. The whole album series of "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" looks at & captures the thoughts, struggles and feelings of youth in such a raw and honest way imo. I can definitely see why it was one of their big turning points in their career.
This song means a lot to me. The meaning has played a huge part in how I think and assess the world.
"Welcome, to the Bangtan Universe" :) It's a rocky ride. Tae (V) was stabbing his abusive father. If you watch that part again V comes home and sees his father beating up his sister. V lost it and killed his father.
There's an actual order to some of their mvs that go hand in hand with their Webtoon Save Me I've never seen storytelling like this in my life with mvs but it's phenomenal when you know the actual story behind it

The lyrics are very meaningful and tell a great story ( & kind of gives the overall idea about the storyline ) but it isn't solely about the storyline!! you can listen to the song and interpret the lyrics as they were intended to do without diving in to the BU if that's all you want to do..
BU is just an additional thing where a LOT of music videos, notes, webtoons connect together to tell an overall story.. if you decide to get onto it, i can assure you that it will be so fun and exciting .. this was something that truly sparked my interest in them in the beginning

I am still entranced by it (and the possible link to it and 7 Fates Chakho). Big Hit really knows how to tell a story.

Ooohh. Iâm late here. Iâm sure everyoneâs told you what this means in the comments. But let me tell you - BTSâs songs may have âgirlâ in the lyrics but itâs never actually about a girl. You can listen to these songs individually. But this is the start of BTS Universe. What it means is that theyâre telling a story and thereâs a chronological order of these videos which you should watch if you want to get into the universe. For that youâll also have to know their names and should be able to identify them. You might need a book to write your own notes hahaha.
One tip: You can watch the video without the subtitles first so that you can concentrate on the video and focus on every little thing that happens and then watch it again with subtitles. Albums after albums and the storyline still continues. Itâs better than any movie or series trust me.
Also the one on the road was Jhope. He doesnât lie down - he actually collapsed on the road. In the beginning of the video you can see he swallowed some pills. Jin was the one with flowers.
Love the reaction! This song goes way beyond the title and is really what I think of as the initial story video for the BU (BTS Universe) outside of the intro stories. It gives you a picture of all the issues the boys are going to tackle, that BTS will cover as they move forward. Topics like depression, domestic violence, drug/alcohol abuse, friendship, love, loneliness, empowerment, youth, etc. It really is an amazing video and as you move through the future albums and the song and other videos that are part of the BU, the story that unfolds is so interesting. The though that went into this, a whole world created to tell a longer story from album to album...this guys and bit hit are just...I have no words. đ
I know Iâm late but DNA was my introduction to BTS. But this album blew my freaking mind!! I completely fell in love with their acting, singing, rapping & not to mention the lyrics!!!! The whole thing is a movie!!! This whole album is so damn deep!!! I hope you had a chance watch the dances to the songs too!!! The entire album and following 2 albums too I believe are also part of the same concept themes. It blows my mind!!

Between the video and the lyrics, this song tells multiple stories. There's the BU aspect of it, which is the individual and combined stories of the characters that they're playing, there's the lyrics, that talk about a toxic relationship and another meaning, which is why the video has such shocking visuals. Each of the guys represents an issue that teenagers and young adults face. Well, adults, too, but the focus is on younger people. Suga represents suicidal tendencies. J-Hope represents drug addiction. Prescription drugs, in his case. V is domestic violence. Jimin is depression. Jungkook is homelessness and RM is poverty. And, yes, part of the story they're showing is how you can at least seem happy and carefree when your with your friends, but the circumstances behind that smile, when people are alone and away from any kind of support can be very, very different. it's basically the public face compared to the reality behind the public mask. The flower has six petals and represents the other six members.

Surprises me how many have the same reaction in shock "not from BTS". They were men then and are now. Artists, not eunuchs, that express the life around them or someone else's story. Please, I'm sure the same shocked are watching news , tv or playing video games watching or FPS killing and shock it can be portrayed by BTS? Again...men not eunuchs. Artists of many mediums. How can we not expect this from BTS?

you seem to have stumbled across the Bangtan Universe unknowingly lol, oh boy. the storyline is very complex and from what i've seen, there isn't any one consensus on what certain things mean but there's a lot to digest. just so you know going forward, the lyrics of the songs aren't always meant to align with the storyline and shouldn't necessarily be taken at face value. if you choose to continue with the BU (and I hope you do), the pairings are important. They are: Yoongi (Suga) and Jungkook, Namjoon (RM) and Taehyung (V), and Jimin and Hoseok (J-Hope). Jin is separate because he is the cornerstone of the whole thing and his perspective is very important. this is going to take some time for you to really get your mind around lol, although some of us have been following it for years and can't settle on an explanation. the order that you watch the videos in is important as well, as each one gives you more pieces to the puzzle. Also, Tae killing his father is key information. they all have their own "cross to bear" so to speak and things that are repeatedly associated with them, such as fire for Yoongi and water for Jimin. there are many resources out there for you to read about the storyline and videos to watch as well if you want more background from the notes. it really helps you to fill in the gaps. As for the flowers, i've been led to believe that the six petals each represent the six boys (excluding seokjin).

I wonât tell you all the symbolism in this but it is the start of the Bangtan Universe - this and so many other videos link together as well as a series of books and a WEBTOON to make up the BU. With the flower - all I will say is count the petals. It was Hobi who collapsed by the roadside after he âoverdosedâ. This was a change for them - more gritty, more real and dealt with a lot of issues like bullying, mental health and domestic violence. Be prepared to drive yourself mental trying to piece it all together. Take notes!

Okay here. Bighit called their storyline as BU short for bts universe. Bts have this fictional storyline which is connected to the mvs and webtoons (its okay if you will not read webtoon or react to it with us cuz itll take a lot of time). Before you watch the storyline:
- please know that this storyline is not about love about a girl. Its all about their friendship with hardships and all about time traveling.
- the "lyrics of the song" they are singing in the mvs is not connected to the storyline so dont focus on the lyrics. BUT! The reason why i gave you captions is because there are some parts that they talked so you need to understand what they said there. And there are some parts that the video is focusing in words that are written in korean so captions will help you understand it.
- bighit in their bts storyline is so much detailed. So every small detail is a part of the storyline and has meaning. Even the "flower" and "camera" jin always holds have meanings. Even the pills.. (Oops! I gave you hint already lmao)
- last but not the least, dont ever finish the mv without watching the very last part of the mv. Even when you already saw the credits thing.. There is a small clip at the very end of the mv so be careful. Like in ON STAGE: PROLOGUE MV... At the last part.. There is a credit names of bts, staffs, producers, directors, etc. So you will thought its the end of the video BUT ACTUALLY NO. Right after the credit part, there is a bonus clip that will take an important part for you to understand the storyline. And also in the WINGS SHORT FILMS.. There is 7 clips each for the members. And at the end of every clips.. There is 4 black circles that will change every after clip and by that.. You will know who is connected to who.

@@JimGames ohh i think it is great decision to go in order... Hmm and sorry to say but this list is missing a lot things, I'm sorry @shiene. , I sure you wanted to help with all you know đ, but looking at it I see a last 6 videos missing and not even saying about 3 japanese MVs.
I think when you are ready Jim and want to get in to BU, then you should ask for list with all stuff that connect to story. I'm sure everyone would love to help and you have your help behind scene too soo. I think it is only important to make sure you have all and in order then.
And writing about time traveling is big spoiler bc most ARMYs didn't find it until highlight reel only teories that mayby it is it...

No one had ever connected their music to a story before. There is an overarching theme that connects the albums. I see others have given you important information below so there is no point in me saying it too. Keep in mind that BTS does not shy away from subjects that are taboo. They speak to the things that young people really face in their real lives. Unpolished and unapologetically. Life is not all bubbles and happiness and many people struggle and face dark things. Ultimately the whole BU simplified can be wrapped up by saying they are stories about growing up and discovering your true self, tied together with amazing musicâŠ

This is the start to your next adventure which I hope you take, it's the BU, the BTS universe. It's conected by notes, web toons, music videos, and so much more. Xceleste has 2 videos about it that starts from the beginning to end, but I wanted to touch base on the Tae part, because that took an entirely different turn than most people would have thought or understood why. He walks in on his father beating his sister and after years of abuse he snapped. He does end up killing him and going to jail because of it. I really encourage you to watch Xceleste videos on it to understand everything that happens and why it happens, the boys have a way of telling a story that no one else possibly can and that's another thing that ARMY loves about them. They don't just stop at their singing and dancing, or at just trying to keep us happy, they created a complete other storyline that draws us in more and more. Heck they even created a new one that premires on 1/15. They spend all their times practicing, making new music, making videos for fans, making these stories, making their cartoon bt21, and so much more for ARMY, which is why we go 110% for them and to protect them because they give us every little piece of them already.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the one that's essentially written about friendship/brotherhood, but they were asked to change/the lyrics worked better with "girl" than "bro'" or some such so it ended up as a "romantic" break-up song rather than a strong and painful song about friendships falling apart? I.e. it's actually a very personal song for the group rather than a more generic breakup song.
