RM said it was supposed to be I need you friend but it didn't sounded good so he choose girl instead of friend. they are suffering when they are alone but happy when they are together.

What's actually interesting is the fact that they do have an album called Wings and some short teaser clips (that are really interesting to look at) that came prior to the release and all of them contribute to their BU story

this mv is part of the bts universe, their storyline. there's a lot of mvs that are included in the storyline so it might seem confusing but once you know it it'll all fall into place. xceleste made a great video to explain it

Just to say, you need to get through all of this to get the story. If you watch only music videos, you won't understand anything.
They have a storyline called "BTS Universe" which is very deep and is connected to almost every early MVs.

There's actually a story being told in their music videos. You should definitely look into it because it's very poetic and beautiful. They have highlight reels which sort of continue the story without the music but it's all very pretty. I feel that you can sort of see them beginning to get money and gain popularity in these videos and progress to where they are now. So I'd suggest going in order of release if you're interested in looking into it
One of their PD said in the interview (forgot the title) that BTS mv has never been cheap. It always high in quality and price even since their first mv. Bang PD always want the quality. Even use the pds car or wht, still the budget never be cheap.
I think they tried to produce good quality mv with their very limited resources and low budget during the earlier days. This shows how passionate and professional Big Hit and BTS were about their crafts and music. Of course, now that they have the financial abilities, they produced even better quality and creative mv.
You should probably watch BTS storyline by Xceleste. You'll understand what is happening, they would go into a series of hardships, there is also a webtoon or comic called Save Me.
MVs related to the BU are Run, Danger, Stigma, Euphoria, Fake love, etc.
There are also short flims which kinda make it more interesting.

DON'T watch xCeleste summary videos now. They are full of spoilers. It is a summary video, not an explanation. Many people make reactors watch it but for what? This is his first BU video, don't throw all the spoilers at him. :)
I suggest reacting to their very first MV back in 2013 just to see the process of evolution of a legendary group.
BTS is actually a very complicated group, like they'll be singing the most upbeat song paired with body rolls and fearsness but the song is actually about depression. Yeah things like that.

I recommend watching BTS Run MV and BTS On stage: Prologue too since it is also part of the storyline. You can get more theory about the story when you watch it. Anyways, it was a nice reaction video. I didn't notice RM and V's shadow as wings until you pointed it out.

In order to follow the storyline, the next video after I Need U is their On stage prologue. The on stage prologue will continue into the next MV, Run.
NEED U is part of the Most Beautiful Moment in Life Series.It connects to the prologue Butterfly, and the official BU music videos as well as the webtoon Save Me. So it's not just one story. It's a continuing one. The BU Story in the simplest terms In highschool Seokjin followed in the footsteps of his father by making selfish decisions and protecting himself instead of standing by his friends. This caused the group to drift apart and as a result of losing eachother, they get in trouble some landing in jail, others committing suicide as a result of not being able to cope with their VERY dark pasts. These are briefly shown in I NEED U.I NEED U is sort of introduction to the BU and shows each character's backstory along with the fates Seokjin needs to save the members from.

I'm so glad to see you start the BTS Universe! This is definitely where all the cues and cinematography of their videos shine for me personally. I suggest you watch all the MVs before searching up explanation videos so that we can see your first interpretation of the story! I'm sure someone will be able to provide a guide to go through. Please remember that it is a fictional storyline that includes character arcs and motivation so it might not necessarily relate to a general explanation. Also the song lyrics don't usually relate to the story :)

I found it. Remember that there is an after credit scene too. And it was changed on the Hybe Labels account years ago. So this is the correct version.

This video was the beginning of the Bangtan Universe. All the videos in this series are connected with a lot of symbolism throughout the MV (not so much the lyrics) that slowly reveals a storyline that’s a little hard to put together but so engaging (ARMYs were confused for years. since it’s ongoing…we still are kinda). You will want to pay attention to who is with who (pairs) and when. The next video in the story is “On stage: Prologue” and make sure you look up the one with English subtitles because the original doesn’t have that (and you’ll want that…). Have fun exploring the BU!
Also pay special attention to Jin (the one with the flower petals), he Has a special role throughout the storyline.
there are small details that they have kept all throughout the years. for example Suga is always connected to fire (he was the one facing the fire/explosion in the fake love music video, he was also the one who set the person on fire on the Fire MV, etc), jin has always had mysterious solo shots as if he knows something we don't, jimin is connected with the water (he's the one in the bathtub and he was also on the scene with water in fake love mv)
i think they new this song could be the end or the begginig for something... cause its funny how this is like the beggining of the bts universe (the history that the group created trougth music, videos and short films) ad this was their first song the blew up... i think they were like: lets go with everything iin this one... and the lets see how it goes.

I’m glad you caught that every time they’re alone they had deep and serious struggles, but together they’re carefree and happy. They mask their sadness with happiness, but alone they have no hope or laughter.
He's so good at picking up the storylines but his mind will be blown when he dives fully into BTS'S storyline.
Honestly the moment u said "wings", I was blown away by ur observantness. Wings were much more than an image, they played a big role in BTS's cinematic universe.
Pro tip: if you really want to learn their faces, watch not-music related stuff. That really helped me way more than watching the music videos. I'm talking interviews, Run Episodes, compilations, just clips where their personalities come out a bit more - somehow, it's easier for the brain to connect the face to stuff like that (at least it was like that for me). I know you watch a lot of the behind the scenes videos but a lot of the times, they speak to the camera in low light so I imagine it's rather difficult to really tell them apart that way.

Welcome to the beginning of the Bangtan Universe... and down the rabbithole you go! This song is special to me, cos it made me ARMY. I was soooo addicted to it n the music video definitely had something to do with that addiction too. I loved how raw n real it was. This is the 1st of a whole series of videos that will have you going deeper into the fictional storyline of the 7 guys in their Bangtan Universe. There was even a webtoon that's part of this storyline n a bunch of books called the Notes that gives you more clues as to what its all about. Good luck trying to figure it out!
Welcome to BU (Bangtan Universe) this is the first MV of them universe. The image tell the story, not the Lyrics.
Jin is the pivotal caracter. He suffers a butterfly effect and through time travelling he comebacks everytime to the 11th of April. He is the guy that gets proyected the flower on the shirt. The flower is the representation of the 6 other guys that he try to protect so he goes back in time and try to change them dark present. Unfortunately everytime he repairs one of the guys destiny another of them end up suffering another bad end.
They are just well when they are together and they need eachother ( "girl" is just because it sounds better than friend, very rare BTS talks about romantic love)
V is the one that kill his father. His dad is often drunk and bit him and his sister. That's why he is always in the streets with RM the guy working in the gas station. RM struggles to survive, he is extremely poor because he sends money for his mum and little brother and pay the hospital bills of his sick dad
Suga tried to commit suicide because of his mother, she plays the piano and teaches Suga to play ( piano it will be his "First love")His mum burn them house tired of struggling with depression, he feels guilty because he never report to firefighters that she is inside the house when they asking, he end up burning his Motel room.
Junkook looks for trouble in the streets to feel visible as at home his step family doesn't want him and his real mum ask him to stay outside when they celebrate family gathers.
J Hope was abandoned by his mum and suffers Munchausen syndrome, so he thinks he suffers narcolepsy it is a psicosomatic sintom. Jimin witnessed a murder and is consumed because he couldn't do anything about it. He lies and has seizures because he can't accept reality.
Jin has a solo song in Wings called Awake were he says " may be I will never fly like those 6 petals" in "I need you he also burn the 6 petals, that's a funerary tribute in many cultures. I think he feels he can't safe them.
Please the logical order is "the stage prologue " it is a master piece.
This is my personal opinion of them universe based in many years and reviews of them work.

I LOVE HOW U SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY VERSUS HOW I SEE THEM
for me, it shows that when they're together they can be happy and enjoy each other's company regardless of the hurdles they're facing but then when they're on their own, they're miserable and lost. Now the Bangtan Boys are very open about having to spend time as much as possible to all with the members, to share the joys and the sadness together. Jimin said in one of the interviews that hes not sure what he gonna do without his members with him as well as JK and V. Even Suga wish that they can make music together for a long time. Jin and Hobi are so vocal about how precious their members are to them. I just love how they love each other... It's just amazing and I guess it's one of the reasons why I fall for these guys. They put value to everything and they're not ashame to express and show... I just love that, it is indeed gives hope to me, wishing to meet again my friends who used to be so close to me... I wish to have that relationship with friends when I was younger or even in the future... 💜

Btw when people say they had nothing it's comparative to kpop, they did have support and resources but it was next to nothing compared to other groups, like kpop is so expensive and a massively competitive market so even if you have finances it might not be enough. Hundreds of groups debut every year and only a handful 'make it', and they're from big companies. Its considered an achievement to make it past 100 days, there's actually a vid of bts celebrating it

If you notice through the videos, one of the guys is just looking upon them. And no tragedy befalls him. He is like the base. Where all rest lose their way. Shows that he missed them. He is also enclosed in a room. The six petals in his hands and then the projector shot on his chest denote the other six members that live in his heart. He is the one always imagining or thinking of way to save them and bring them back together.
The first blow of that bottle matching up perfectly to the car's impact and Namjoon dropping the cigarette that acts as the match to start the fire in the motel room are just really brilliant editing choices that give me chills every goddamn time I see this mv.

I need u and spring day have always been my favorite MV's because they look so vulnerable to me. Personally I like their old MV's the most because of that.
This is the first of the music videos of the BU or the Bangtan Universe (you can say BTS universe too) which the details of story are revealed over the years thru MVs, webtoons, etc. The BU is pretty much like the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). They are not real life stories of the guys, but the characters in the BU. It’s mysterious and complicated. Though their first names are used in the characters, it’s not their real life.
Ah, you are delving into the BTS universe which is great. They put out a series called ‘Highlight Reels,’ which is also related to the BTS Universe. They are masterful.
Starting from I NEED U they were able to build this story line that continued through their other music videos. They also have a follow up video to this which is more of a short film titled HYYH ON STAGE: PROLOGUE, followed by another music video called RUN.
