    I always assumed it was a collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Maurice could be from a German background, and even though he was married to a Frenchwoman, once she died, the village started shunning Maurice and Belle. She grew up listening to her father tell her stories, so she'd naturally be drawn to a beautifully illustrated edition of said tales.

    About that theory of Belle not understanding her neighbors, she could be from Gascony! A majority of people at Belle’s time in that province spoke a language called Occitan or Gascon itself, a lot of them not even able to understand French and that could also explain why people thought Belle was weird, people from that area would be considered Country Bumpkins or in American terms: hillbillies

    • @Tolstrup
      @Tolstrup Před 3 lety +14

      Gaston/Gascon. I think you have a point about the different languages, because Gaston could be a wordplay of the difference between Belle as a weirdo in the public eyes and her way to be something special in Gaston’s narcissistic eyes!

    She actually says "discover that it's him" but great job. I always thought she was reading the very story we are experiencing. Because "You'll see, here's where she meets prince charming, but she won't discover that it's him, til chapter 3" is her meeting the "prince" but doesn't discover the real him until the 3rd act.

    The only nitpick I have with this theory is that there aren't really any sword fights. But, considering the way the villagers go after the Beast, perhaps in another version, there were.
    I also have a theory about the movie, but I don't know how possible it is. I think that Belle created the Beast. I know that sounds strange, but please let me explain what I mean. All through the movie we, the audience, are given direct parallels between Gaston and Beast. (Yes, I know the prince has a name, but they call him Beast through most of the movie, so that's what I'm going with.) More importantly, we see how they're opposite in their interactions with people, and how they're the same. Gaston is beloved by the town, to the point that people think there's something wrong with Belle for not wanting him. The Beast is dead, as far as anyone seems to know or care outside of the castle. Gaston is greeted with cheers and smiles, the Beast is greeted with fear and screams. So, at the beginning of the movie, the two of them are complete opposites. Then we see how they change after interacting with Belle. Gaston tries to woo her by treating her like one of the townsfolk (something both they and she agree she isn't), Beast blackmails her to stay with him. Belle's act of rejection, towards Gaston, makes him start acting more and more aggressive. When Belle rejects Beast and runs away, the Beast runs after her--and then defends her from another threat. She tells Gaston that he's "primeval," she tells Beast he needs to learn to control his temper. Gaston leans into the label, donning it as he manipulates the town to get what he wants. (I remember being particularly horrified, as a child, when Gaston bribed an official to get Belle's father thrown in the madhouse.) Beast works to change himself. The catalyst for both changes is Belle. By the end of the movie, Gaston and Beast have switched places; Gaston is dead and Beast is beloved by the people around him.
    But, that's just my theory. Feel free to ignore it if you wish.

    The lack of sword fights mean that it's unlikely to be her own story, and that pic does not match Aladdin. I always figured it was just a fake story they made up to put in there. Which works because she's a bookworm and they needed a story that sounds very intriguing to be her favourite.
    That said, it could also be a Sinbad story, a Conan story, or an early version of 'Avatar the Last Airbender' with the main character being Zuko instead of Aang.
    Also I think the main reason you never realized that those songs were the same is because you enjoyed them too much. I was never a fan of those songs, but because my sisters loved the movie I sat through it countless times, and I noticed early on that they were the same.

    There’s a flaw in that logic because Aladdin’s father, Cassim, wasn’t always a king, he (Cassim) was given the title after joining and becoming the leader of the 40 thieves which before that point only numbered 39, making Cassim the 49th. Therefore, Aladdin was NOT a prince by birth.

    Question: Do you love Anamainiacs? Either the reboot, original, or both can do! Do you have any theories on the series? Maybe you could a more in-depth look on how Yakko basically has to look after his siblings? Or on Hello Nurse has a high IQ and yet is at an underpaid job? Despite it being a comedic series, there's a boatload of lore to delve deep into.

      I used to watch it every single day before school, and I’ve been casually watching the new series but haven’t finished it yet. I might try to put something together for Animaniacs eventually, but the biggest question I had was resolved in the new show (which was, where the heck are all the other characters?!).

      This is a dark theory, but Dr. Scratchnsniff may have made up the entire Warner siblings in his mind. Hear me out! We know that he was a well known psychiatrist for the famous, but what if over time his own mental state slowly deteriorated? Thus the siblings are all a figment of his imagination. Soon after their first "session" Dr. Scratchy was fired due to being unfit for the position. Despite him being able to diagnose anyone but himself. Same for the other characters, such as the Flavio and Marita, Mindy and Buttons, and Slappy and Skippy. Also: the three Warners can represent different aspects of his mind, Yakko as a leader being his confidence in his job, Wakko his own underlying impulsiveness, and Dot being his innocent side?

      Well, to be fair 30 years ago it was a different world, and I still think the goal was to show Gaston as one of those macho preppy boys who doesn’t have to be smart because he’s pretty and strong, so he only falls upwards in society. It shows us that Belle and Gaston are not a match at all, and that Gaston is all brawn and no brains. But, yeah, watching it in 2020 as a dyslexic, that scene does feel a bit like “hey, now!”

    Honestly? It probably isn’t ANY book. It’s probably a rough, quick retelling of the stereotypical “princess” stories. Like, think about it- it hits the main plot points of almost every Princess movie, ever.
