My Ranger class was from Oct - Dec 1970. How did we survive, much less graduate, without all of this gear? Balaclava, neck gator, fleece caps? All we had was a field jacket and the Ranger patrolling cap with ear flaps. We were allowed to go to Ranger Joe's (then in downtown Columbus) and buy some nylon quilted underwear.) Those were the days before Goretex and polartec fleece and polypro, chemlights, eye-pro, head-lamps, write-in-the-rain paper, and wipes were invented. No polypro or such socks. Just the Army issue boot socks. No ziplock bags--not invented yet. We did buy long greenish plastic rifle bags (dated 1944, used during amphib landings) to be used as waterproof bags ("Elephant Rubbers). I am envious!! Here's the thought, beside much of this gear not even being invented, there was no internet, hence no way to pass around tips and lessons learned to everyone--such as these excellent videos by Gritty Soldier. My gosh I feel like I was in Ranger School during the Revolutionary War, and I feel so....ancient! We take so much for granted nowadays.
Thanks for your service Old School! Mine was 9 weeks, Class 1-90. Didn't have all the highspeed gear either, no gortex, but did have polypro socks in the form of polyester dress socks.
I heard ranger school was actually up hill both ways back then?
Because that was when men were men. Not gender confused musicals enthusiastsđȘ
@@user-cv8qe9ru8c đđThat's right! Up hill both ways, but also in knee-deep snow with 50mph winds and temp at minus-60 degrees! And nothing to eat every day but one John Wayne Bar. Seriously, so proud and grateful--after 52 years--of earning my Tab, but I never want to go through that course ever again.
I miss the pile cap.
On a side note, in the swamps, with the temp down to freezing and completing all of those @#$%&%$ water crossings, we always wondered in late November and early December 1970 at how the RIs were such tough dudes--they never shivered, never seemed to be fazed by the weather and water. Fifty years later, in 2020, a former RI told me that when "walking the lanes", the RIs wore 1/4" wetsuits, purchased from a local dive shop, to wear under their jungle fatigues. The Rest of the Story! :-))
You had to know they weren't toughing it out like the " commoners ".
They even wore that thin ass rain gortex under their uniform.
@@maddmoxx6414 :-)) "...that thin ass rain gortex under their uniform>" ?? Memories!! Thanks, MaddMoxx4!! From Dec 1970, fast forward to 1985. There I was in the 505th of the 82nd, wearing light-wight goretex under my BDU shirt. Bought it at General Jackson's Surplus on Yadkin Road. (Still have it in 2022 and use it!) The division commander, James Johnson, would not let anyone wear a goretex parka outside their BDU shirt or field jacket, so...those who bought them had to wear them "clandestinely.".
@@4325air That mentality was still around back then. If you got it issued to you, you had to ruck it, but you couldn't use. Before gortex used my field jacket liner, under my BDU. I also remember buying a pair of gortex go devil boots Kept my feet warm for like an hours than jumped into fox hole arm pit deep with water. Jungle boots all the way....
Water crossings. I did winter class. Sucked ass. Coldest ive ever been..brutal..and wet..
I'm set to graduate High School soon. I've been training to be an Army Ranger since I was fourteen years old utilizing advice from recruiters, connections, my coaches, and CZcams channels such as this one.
Winning this Ranger Pack would be a huge help for when I get to Ranger School enabling me to learn about what specific things I should expect to be utilizing in regards of equipment. It would be a huge help, hopefully this pack goes to somebody who will truly utilize it to it's max.
Should become an officer
I'm not even going to ranger school and I want that pack/kit. It looks awesome!
đȘ
Ye me to lol
I love that you do this. Not only is it essential for ranger school it is highly informative for anyone who spends a lot of time in the woods, hiking, hunting, camping, etc. You want people to succeed, and that says a lot about your character. Thank you for the videos, and for being a great American. Please keep them coming, and the rest of us will continue to learn, and grow. Strength and Honor.
Keep your content coming. For every Ranger candidate that is watching this, I believe there are many more of us that are following for the fitness information that applies us individually. This load out cross applies to many outside of the Ranger process.
Old soldier here.. Desert Shield/Desert Storm.. 12B.. nothing but love
Iâm closing one chapter with the marine corps and working on starting a new chapter with the army, your videos have been great on opening my eyes of things I can do and should do to become a better person overall, keep up the great work
Thank you Griity Soldier. Been learning enormously from you to prepare my self for Ranger School come next year. Haven't got word yet from my higher on what class I will be in, but in the meanwhile I am preparing as best as I can.
Major shout out all the way from Papua New Guinea!đ”đŹ
Definitely some nice stuff there that can make life easier even foe regular field environment. Your willingness to give this away, speaks greatly of your character and wanting to see your fellow soldiers be successful. You videos have definitely helped me in some areas. Other areas, I still need improvement on.
Man, thatâs super well thought out and a great overview of the contents. Good to reinforce the hand care goop tooâŠeveryone is a badass until their hands are cracked and chapped and theyâre trying to do a fine task or grope around in mud, grease, or saltwater in the cold. An ounce of prevention prevents pounds of unneeded suck.
Took a year for my hands to recover from Ranger school, had numbness and tingle in finger tips for a long time.
Dang, nice kit. I was in the Marines for a lifetime and I will say that kit is an outstanding idea! I wish we had that available when I was in. Excellent idea to sell a ready made kit!
This video has sold me on buying a Ranger Pack if I'm not lucky enough to win it. The small details such as the pre-cut lum tape and addresses for each phase really make this pack stand out from some of the others I've seen. Thanks for putting this video out there!
I would soooo much appreciate this packing list! Iâve spent over $1000 on my first try at getting my TAB, Iâm going again this next FY and anything I get would help. Your content is so informative and great. Keep doing what your doing
Got the Tower of Power starting in 88 to 91. Good luck and never give up.
Well thought out, one of the most thorough and easily understood presentations Iâve seen put together.
Zip lock baggies are indispensable. They great for kitting out your stuff and compartmentalization. Large ones can be used as a wash machine, add powder detergent and shake. Water/sweat protection for anything you can't afford to get damp.
Best military school prep channel that Iâve come across
Will be class 04-22. Hope I win but regardless, thank you for all you do for your subscribers. You have helped me a lot during my career.
Youâre a no go
You got this high speed
@@Jimmymcnulty4 He doesnt have the makings of a varsity athlete.
seeya there
what's the bfa? I am thinking of getting one of these kits for part of emergency supplies. Obviously some of it are things I would never use but overall I love this. Not going to Ranger school :-) But good luck.
Great to see a pre made pack thats not full of cheap epuipment. Good explanation of kit
Glad to see someone is trying help soldiers get ready for rasp
This is brilliant stuff. Great to have for Ranger School and beyond.
Signing my RTLI contract next week. I know the packing list is a task, but excited for the opportunity nonetheless. Thank you for the constant content and pointers!
Definitely makes the packing list more simple to understandđ€đŒ appreciate it big time
I have been researching these packs and I appreciate the commentary on the pack
Holy hell! It's alot of gear! Thanks again for the deep look inside and for the chance to win it!
Looks like a true load out here for most schools or combat operations in general all conditions! Well put together! đ! Good luck to whomever wins this! Disabled veteran here! Bless you from Oklahoma! Thanks for sharing!
Jerry, where are you in Oklahoma? My dad was born in Mangum in 1918, high school in Sapulpa, and met Mom at OAMC (OSU) in Stillwater. Mom was born in 1922 in the Covington/Garber oil field. Later, as an Army Brat, we lived in Enid for a year while Dad was in Korea. Got relatives in Tulsa and Heavener.
Appreciate your professionalism all the way around. Very informative. I'm civilian training on my own and learning new stuff wish I could have done many years ago.
Your content is money!!! My buddy bought one of these and he said it saved so much time frim running around and fi sing some of thise items and definitely money. Getting my hands on one of these will definitely help when I go to Ranger School this up coming summer
Great looking kit. That will definitely come in handy at school.
Recently got a slot slot for Ranger school in February, winning The Ranger Pack would definitely help in regards to prepping for school. Aside from that, been binge watching your videos to get as much info on what to expect. Appreciate what you do!
Im going to
Youâre giving out so much great information that is making a lot of peoples lives so much easier. Thank you!
đ
Great job covering efficiently and quickly.
I will definitely need that pack after WOBC.
Excellent idea of creating an all in one pack with every item present, and all items both proven winners and approved by Ranger School Cadre.
Getting ready for ranger school myself so I really appreciate these videosđđ»
Dang, freakin incredibly thorough man. Thank you for putting this together. Hope I can snag this!
currently recovering from eye surgery, so I've just been sitting at home for the past week reading the ranger handbook and watching so many of your videos just soaking in the info. Looking to go to SURT May2022 and then get my tab shortly after. I would love to win this Ranger pack. It would definitely help as I prepare for Ranger School. Thank you for all the videos and content you put out.
The list is a WHOLE LOT bigger that it used to be!!
And most of it looks like shit that will be used for layouts only and never see the light of day afterwards.
Heading to Ranger School soon! Your channel is one of the few military channels that I trust the content! This Ranger Pack would come in clutch đđ»
Thanks for all your great content helping all of us Soldiers with good tips for success!
The soul reason I joined the Army was to become a ranger, I had a rough getting to where I am today. Iâm currently stationed in Fort Hood and Im looking to go to Ranger School in April. I sure hope to win that would be a blessing. KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT GRITTY! đșđžđđđ»
You do realize that Ranger school doesn't make you a Army Ranger, right? Going through RASP is what will make you a Army Ranger.
That's a wicked kickass load out !
RLTW thanks for the info and all your hard work setting this list up , your videos Kickass !
" BE PREPARED "
Love the fact that they made an improvement on the duffel bag!
It looks like theyâve done an outstanding job with that pack!
Watching this reminds me of the WLC layout back in 2006. One of the SHLs kept shouting "this is not AIT," because so many people came missing items.
đ
When I went to WLC, one of the other students said his unit looked at WLC as another version of Basic or AIT, like a refresher or remedial course.
It would be great to win the pack but just seeing some of the minor details really helps. I will definitely use some of the tricks I saw in this video. Thanks!
Thats a very nice incentive to get a leg up on that journey. You give people hope to press in with your support !! Thanks !! I have an E-5 Army friend that will be very encouraged to receive this pack as he is ready to give it his all soon !! USAF Viet Nam 70-74.
A lot of stuff that may be necessary for ranger classes not necessarily for your survival but would sure make it a lot easier
Got mine and checked it today đȘđœ
đȘ
Upload some content Chief; I subbed!
(Preface: Iâm assuming youâre going to Ranger School at some point and have already gotten through Airborne Quals. If Iâm wrong; I apologize!)
As Iâve yet to enlist; I just know that âGBRS Groupâ or âForward Observationsâ style âmotivationalâ video log is missing for the airborne! I canât find it if it does. If you donât do it; I will when Iâm there đ
As a self aware loser whoâs working on himself; Iâd eat that shit up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
How long did it take to come?
In my day (class 10-92) if you were headed to RS straight out of IOBC packing list was fairly straight forward, you could just go to Ranger Joeâs off Victory Drive and pick everything up.
But this pack would be a Godsend for anyone who wasnât already at Mother Benning.
Right ... I don't really think I would take all of this stuff though, some of it just seems like extra and not needed.
@@chriscr21 I cant speak for today, but the packing list in 1992 was fairly similar (no headlamps, no fleece beanie, those weren't really a thing back then). And yes, some of it is extra, but a ranger student will really use most of this stuff in the course, and the extra gear is there for if you lose something or a ranger buddy loses something. Ranger school is 2 months long (it was 2 months, 1 week long in 1992, there was a desert phase back then), and it's not like you can just run to PX during the course if you need something. You won't carry all of those supplies on your back at once, most of your gear is in your locker in the barracks, you stock up your rucksack as needed for field exercises, then replenish the supplies in your ruck from the gear in the barracks as you rotate through the field problems You come in from the field every 7-10 days.
@@morantactical1105 Yeah, I am aware, was a shame when they got rid of Desert Phase, all political BS. The Guys dying in Florida was a terrible tragedy as well. I know where a few of the extra things came in, it was after that horrible incident in Florida. I think it is a good pack, just some of it for me I wouldn't have used so I wouldn't bother with it is all. The Thing that a lot of people do not do is go through and practice how to pack their ruck as well, we had a lot of people that were choppy at first until they started paying attention to a bunch of us. We did that at the 82nd in our Recon Platoon and it just carried over when a few of us went to Pre-Ranger and Ranger School. Wrecked my knee in Mountain Phase and I basically blew it off for the most part, but it caught back up to me in Hawaii when I was working out to go back and finish what I started.
@@chriscr21 Yeah, going into RS straight out of IOBC is a real force multiplier. You go to the field A LOT in IOBC,, literally every other week is a 5 day FTX. After 5 months of IOBC your rucksack packing game is on point.
@@morantactical1105 Very true, but I am sure you saw the same kind of people I did hahaha All souped-up, shit everywhere, not organized at all. I am amazed some of them made it through Pre-Ranger. haha
Great video with awesome info. Brings back some great memories. Class 1-93
Brother this video was outstanding AF. Like the way you explained every item and the reason.
Excellent content. Great packing list and one-stop shop setup. Gives young Ranger candidates the chance to focus on the critical skills while not worrying about having the right kit on hand.
RLTW/DOL
Gritty Soldier, do you think it enhances the organizations skillset if support MOSs are able to get slots alongside their combat arms peers? I hear a lot since im in a desk job that support MOSs dont need it, but i want to differentiate myself from my peers and come prepared to different units to assist and help and work alongside different Soldiers.
RS is more than tactics, it makes you more resilient and aware of how far you can actually go even when it seems impossible. Go.
Speaking from 20 years of experience, they're telling you that you don't need to because they don't want to process the paperwork. Dot your Is, cross your Ts, and make them tell you no if that's the commander's l decision.
Love these videos and recommend you to everyone I can! Thanks a lot Gritty!
Thanks for showing the ranger pack and explaining how durable all the items are in detail. This is such a great opportunity for someone to win. Best of luck to everyone. đ€đ
If I win, it will for sure go to one of my soldiers that REALLY wants the tab.
This helped me rearrange how I had my items. Handy handy. Thank you for a great video.
Great looking pack. Never had all that when I was in - back in the 70's.
Not planning on going any time in the next 6months but I will be hopefully going in the next year or so, these videos are helpful with building me up with the knowledge I will need,
Keep up the good work!
That's one of the most compehensive nd awesome kits I've ever seen.
Hello, my son is currently deployed. He would love this as he is the ultimate gear head! He will be attending Ranger School at some point in the future via the 19th SF GRP ARNG . Thank you for putting this together. Legit!
Thank you for your great advice
I am planning on going to Ranger school in the future and use all the advice in your videos. Once again Thankyoy
I leave for IBOLC in January and hope to get a slot for ranger school when I get there. Iâve been watching a lot of your videos to help prepare which has helped a lot. The ranger pack would help tremendously with helping pack and prepare for both schools. Love the videos, and thanks for the help.
Honestly this is awesome, saves so much time and money
Just found this and I am so thankful
I been watching your videos the last few days, and I feel a lot more confidence to finally go to ranger school.
Thank You, đȘđŸđ€đŸ
Maintain that confidence, and show up prepared! đȘ
Thanks for going over the packing list. Iâll be heading in Aug for my tab. Wish me luck
Those land nav overlays are great, hard to find sometimes too! Forgot that super small dia paracord! Handy for lashing and leashing! Also the Cammenga Tritum is a better wrist compass imho. Make a cover to prevent the light from getting out like you do to cover your watches. Make your own Ranger bands by buying a few different sizes of bike inner tubes. Makes a ton of em! Huge, small and medium. Juicy fruit is banana btw, and if they allow caffeine gum, take some but don't mess up your sleep if sensitive either. Use discretion!
Awesome video! Thank you for helping us all get Ranger ready!
I didn't even know a ranger pack was a thing! Thanks!
What an awesome pack and detailed lay out. Thank you
Hoping to get a slot to RS this coming summer after I get back from NTC. Thanks for the video! I could really use that pack.
Really enjoy all your videos keep them coming.
Great video and very informative i am not a military man myself but am hoping to get this pack for my little brother. Hes going to air assault school next wednesday and just passed his Rangers test yesterday! Good luck to all and thank you all for your service
Good video.
Lots of detail on what you need to be high speed than a blue falcon.
just subscribed to your sit and have learned a lot even for a old soldier like myself.
I just came across your channel and immediately subscribed. So much to learn and so little time to do it. Thank you for your service to our country. God Bless.
Nothing this fraud says is worth it.
Youâll figure it out in battalion.
I need this in my life Iâm currently working a blue collar job and this would be amazing!!
Great video, I definitely gotta grab one now. Appreciate the good advice. Going to be going soon.
Good luck brother! You got this! đȘ
Äčooks good and useful. Great to have someone who's been there.
Thank you, your content is always helpful.
You and your videos are a huge help and asset to anyone
Your videos are great and help so many. Keep making great content!
aww man wish i would've found this video earlier these items definitely will come in handy with my MOS. I've watched your videos before I shipped to OSUT, I graduated and now I've been with my unit for about 3 months and I've been sharing your videos to my battle buddies. We are getting ready to go on a combat deployment in a few wks, I just wanted to say your videos have been very helpful and I hope you continue to make these videos for future and current soldiers. Where I'm going I doubt I will have a stable connection but I will definitely catch up with your videos when I return from my deployment. Keep up the good work sir !
đ

Very thoughtful and thorough video. Thanks
Absolutely love all your content. I'll be heading to Ranger school in March and winning this Ranger Pack would help me focus on other areas to ensure that I succeed. Either way I'll be prepped and ready to go and come out tabbed on the back end. RLTW!
This is what you need whether you're going to be a Ranger or not as former USMC Recon 0321 these are ideal things to have for a sustainable prepper Kit THANKS MUCH SEMPER FI PAUL TAV STAY SAFE AND STAY PREPARED!!
I am thankful of your knowledge.
Wish I would have seen your sight last year.
My grandson went thru Ranger School last yea. Me and my wife (also an Army Veteran), helping getting his Rangef Kit squared away was fun at times; as some items were not easily available as the PX's were out of Stock and we had to hunt items down over the internet. But it we did it and he got his Tab.
And, yes i'm a proud grandpa, as we both have Ranger tabs.

Great kit! Canât wait to pick one up
