"Now time for everybody's favorite part: The Rules" this is maybe the most Edgar Allan Poe line of the whole bit. I love it.
No, that would be
Nevermore
Can you imagine how much stuff they had to do for the web-series?
"Or a voting booth!" Hahahaha, oh man this show is awesome.
As lovely as Annabel is, she DID bring a plus-one to an invite-only dinner party...
Edgar probably gave her an extra invite, especially since he said before she arrived that she would bring a plus one
'Dinner parties are not the place for jokes' . Edgar Allen Poe is me. I love him so much already. And can we please talk about how beautiful Lenore's dress is. DAMN.
The costuming is magnificent!
I know! I resonate with Poe so much right now! (and all of the time)
I think they said in a bts bit that it is the Rachel wedding dress form the “friends” pilot
I am just seeing this film for the first time. Where I am from, we consider this classic
Lenore's loser hand sign as Eddie walks by is everything.
+
Poor Eddie.

+Kelleen BRX what does + mean
Brilliant start!! Pity Emily Dickinson hasn't arrived yet.
Who?
Ohhhhhh do you mean _Irma?_ That makes more sense...
who's that? is that a cat i don't know her
Who?
Ohh Emily! No wait I'm thinking of a different Emily
think my fav line in this episode is "You can never be overdressed, or over-educated." Gonna start using it when i turn up at parties!
That's a real Oscar Wilde quote! :D
oooh even better!!! thanks for telling me! not really familiar with his writings. Love how they integrated the actual quotes! :D
His writing is so good. Importance of Being Earnest is hilarious, and some of his quotes are amazing.
"A spirit for a spirit" was the best play on words
And his laugh afterwards
It’s a double meaning
A humorous play on words,
And that’s where the comedy comes in
Emily Dickinson getting sassed by a ghost is pure literary perfection, along with the blank role. Poor Emily. And bringing uninvited guests to a Murder Mystery Party is grounds for them getting murdered early. ;)
But she did come and ask Edgar's permission to bring him
Phoebe Shelor
Yeah, I forgot that, but still, this is EA Poe we're talking about. She's just lucky he didn't vanish only to be found later on buried in a wall.
Scott Smart
HG is literally the purest of the cinnamons rolls to ever exist, like seriously.
it makes a change to see a merry, non-aggressive russian
came for joey richter and lauren lopez, stayed for hilarious author humor
"Parties aren't the place for jokes."
Parties are the place for murder.
Eddie's voice is clearly a tenor, he couldn't fill in for a bass
Not to worry, he has perfect pitch
I just sent this playlist to every single faculty member of my college's english department
Ooh. What were their reactions? :)
@@polyphonicgherkins yes yes we are very eager to know
we've been on the edge of our seats for 4 years 😔
@@tayla6550 isn't it time we find out?
@howdy y'all
George Eliot is my goddess
Same
you mean god, right? ;)
I think you mean God
inspgonzalez God is a vicious two-faced prick
No goddess because god is dead
I just love, love, love, that reveal at the end. It's just so candid and devoid of melodrama. Also, love Dostoevsky in this one. A man who thinks 'a spirit for a spirit' is funny has my vote.
Agreed
Watching this for the thousandth time and when Dostoevsky calls "Little girl!" after Lenore I still laugh so much
Everytime you introduced a new character, I thought...that is my new favorite character. I love everyone.
Lizzie Bennet has gone full circle into Caroline Lee
I just sat down to watch it all from Trailer to Epilogue. Recently I read a few of Poe's poems, so when Sean said "who is that rapping at my chamber door," I completely lost it. Had to stop the video as laughing so hard.
I don't know. This seems very silly.
Love you!
YOU SEEM VERY SILLY
I'm in the Monte Python Generation. Silly is my life!
Let us not go to camelot, tis a silly place
I was going to get mad and full on write a long defensive argument until I saw who posted this. *tips hat* good day Lizzie I mean Charlotte I mean what
Ah, Omg, Joey and Lauren, this should fuel my star kid addiction until fire bringer comes out :)
Than there are the tincanbros, so seeing Curt and Mary Kate helps too
I think Richpez shippers (like myself) will be delighted to see that Lauren and Joey are sitting next to each other at the table.
@@polyphonicgherkins good for you. Now that they are engaged, you can comfortably ship them
I love everything about this, but my favorite parts are the nods to the movie Clue, especially the singing telegram reference. Can't wait for next week!
Oh my god I almost didn't catch that! Perfect
To quote Andy Dwyer, "A game is the foot." Excellent.
Emily Dickinson is me in most social situations. #PoeParty
Me too
Ditto
Mood
George Elliot! That's two boy names! lol
you know what today is a good day for? rewatching this series yet again
Struggles of being fourteen: I haven't been sentient long enough to get all the literary jokes. Every single author is on my tbr (Eliot wasn't before, but she is now!), but I've only actually read a few of them.
Alanna R. I think you mean he! George Elliott is clearly a man!
Eddie Dantes?! Wink wink to the Count of Montecristo?! :D
Good catch!
"Who touched my leg?"
Oscar replied, but he's sitting too far away from Dostoyevsky. Or did he move? DID HE GET UP TO MURDER EDDIE?
I love how happy Lenore looks when HG shows up.
I
I might ship them just a tad
ok maybe more than a tad
maybe a lot more than a tad
The score is my favorite character :)
Mine is Lenore
JK Oscar Wilde sorry not sorry
Even after adding all this new colourful cast, Lenore is STILL the funniest thing about this first part. Thank you for creating her and bringing her to life !
me too tbh. lenore takes second though :)
*casually rewatches for the 1000th time*
oh look, i'm rewatching this. again.
Can we comment on the inconsistency of Lenore's ghostiness? Can she pick things up or not??? She can't pick up plates but she can hold vodka and burned bread? I need answers.
+Ms_Therese but Poe says "Lenore will take your coat" even though the vlogs establish that Lenore can't pick up anything including plates, food, and a flower that Poe gives her
+Ms_Therese that Lenore. What a liar. ;)
Daniela Chamorro Lenore's a ghost?
Daniela Chamorro It might be for the plot
*spoilers up ahead*
Charlotte Brontë always forgets that Lenore is a ghost, so when Charlotte tries to kill her. Lenore is buying time for Oscar to do something to both if the Brontë sister.
So her (Lenore) not being translucent and her being able to hold things it displays the idea of Lenore being fully alive.
Or it might be your reason.
Lenore is a ghost but as she explains, there’s some stuff that she turns “corporeal” for such as drinking or carrying stuff.
Who else is rewatching?
Poor Emily, she is one of my favorite characters, I love how her place card is being removed from the table instead of being added.
This is the 4th time I watch it. You guys are genius. Very good references, and Oscar... Omg Oscar. WHAT A MASTERFUL CHARACTER. Thank you so, so much.
Hemingway when the light come back up! LOVE!! So delighted the party has finally started!
“Imperfection make people interesting”
Underrated quote👏🏼
When Wells says he knows who did it, is it a reference to his novel, 'The Time Machine'? Because that would be really awesome ;)
(Though perhaps he really does know who did it!)
Also, when Wilde says 'Orangutan', I bet it's a reference to Edgar Allan Poe's detective novel with Dupin ('Murders in Rue Morgue'?).
Either way, what a great start to the series, I'm super hype for the rest of the episodes!
I rewatch this whole thing at like any minor inconvenience. Comfort media go brrr
Hi me from 2 years ago. Your boy is rewatching again
Omg Oscar Wilde. I can’t 😂
Every time I rewatch this I laugh out loud at "Parties aren't the time for jokes, Lenore" I love this series so much
love the casting for every character. i can't believe Joey and Loren is in this! (I think Edgar did it!!)
Oscar's face when Eddie sat next to him ;p
I love the music, it sounds like something Danny Elfman would compose.
This is a fricken tv show bro
Oh, I get it. Because George Eliot was really a woman.
You seem to have George Elliot confused with some damsel. He just has very soft skin.... he’s obviously a man. He enjoys sports!
@@whatalovelybreadstick2449
Brilliant response to replying to a comment.
Love it ♥️ Made me laugh 😂
@@GingerSnapsGirlie love it ^^
i’m rewatching because of sean and mary kate’s engagement announcement 💕
because of?
Another CZcams searching for videos accident/recommendation that I now even love it more!
Last night, I searched "mystery murder party" and I scroll down until I reached this episode.
I know all the titles are Poe works, but dang, just now realizing that the clues were in plain sight this whole time. Mind blown
So first Eddie comes along to an invite only dinner party, and then ruins a perfectly good soup: no wonder they bumped him off!
My favorite lines: “What is that rapping upon my chamber door?” “First of all, that’s a doorbell, second of all, YOU INVITED THESE PEOPLE!” Lol 😂
You GUYS, this came out TWO YEARS AGO and I've watched it a ZILLION TIMES and it's STILL the BEST THING EVER, I just CAN'T GET OVER IT, the cast is so PERFECT, the writing is BEYOND BRILLIANT, it was filmed SO BEAUTIFULLY, I just...I feel like something this amazing shouldn't be allowed to exist
Poor Emily. Although, when you think about it, she'd make the perfect murderer ... ^^
She's like a ninja. No one knows where she is. No one can hear her/will listen to her.
Lauren Lopez (George Elliot) reminds me of Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids when she introduced herself, for some reason I can't quite place.
Did anybody else have a Lizzie McGuire flashback when they saw Dostoevsky?
Ethan Craft!! 😍😂
I thought he looked familiar!
His accent's a little different though... ;)
Oh my god that's the dude that played Ethan Craft!?!??!?!? NO WONDER HE LOOKED SO FAMILIAR
WHAT 😮 how did I not know this till after the series was over?? That's crazy...I thought I recognized his face & name
ITS HAPPENING! ITS HERE
I know right finally!!! I'm so excited!!!
Fyodor is my favorite character so far. :)
YESSSS now to watch it five more times... today
Yeah that has definitely happened.
this is just perfect, the characterization is so good and i don't think i'll ever get over it
Can I get a spinoff which is just Lenore, George Elliott and Oscar Wilde chatting while HG brings snacks and blows things up in the background?
This has quickly become my favorite thing to watch on CZcams. Everything about it is perfection - the setting, the music, the dialogue, I love all of it so, so much. I can't even decide who's my favorite of the characters. Every time I watch it I find myself wishing none of them had to die for the story to progress because I want to see more of their hilarious interactions
Off to a great start...unless you're married to Annabelle.
Too soon
Not married! Just her plus one.
Hilarious, beautifully shot, and wonderfully acted! Exactly as I expected!
Also, Lenore - 10/10 would want as ghost roommate
Lenore would be a very honest roommate. Also excellent for parties.
One day I'll try the shot-glass-into-wine-glass thing
Try a shot of elderflower liquor in a dry white or champagne.
Lenore is my dream roommate
When Mary Shelley and Oscar Wilde arrived I was like, “Yas my Queens!”
I think Eddie was poisened because he's the only one that had the soup, no one else had touched it besides him, so I think that's how he died.
OH DAMN you're right! I was too distracted by... everything else to notice.
(Off to a great start, aren't I? :-D)
that's how they get you!
Or is it only a red herring? Or red soup. What if his chair was poisoned? Or he was injected with poison as he sat down, or as he passed everyone around the table?
+Kelleen BRX so many possiblities I never considered! u were born for this :)
+Kelleen BRX Poe did seem pretty dead-set on Eddie sitting in that particular chair
Ahh! Oscar Wilde's reactions had me laughing so hard; he is my fave so far :)
I ship him and Eddie.
Little did Sarah Gent know, she was ON POINT.
wish he'd had an Irish accent tho :/
@@blushingdoom He would have most likely had some version of an English accent rather than an Irish accent, especially what would have been considered an Irish accent at the time, having been of an upper class then studying at Oxford and proceeding to remain in England.
I'm glad it's finally here. Oh Sinead you are amazing. You have a lot of choices for a bae Lenore. Lauren is really pulling off George Elliott. I love all of the clothes.
The color palette is wonderful and each character is so distinctly supported through the costuming!
is it bad that ive memorized this
Poe is my favorite....I love how he acts towards Annabel Lee 💙💙💙💙😍😍😍
9:15 the way Oscar laughs and says Orangutang is hands down my FAVOURITE part of the whole web series
Quarantine is the perfect time to rewatch this masterpiece
OMG! I don't use this phrase often, but I can't even right now. Oscar Wilde's laugh and Mary Anne....I mean, George Eliot's.....uh, masculinity? are amazing! This is already my new addiction.
I'm excited to see that man with two male names solve a murder. He'll no doubt be the manliest of them all.
Gotta love Oscar Wilde checking out Eddie Dante
how did annabel and eddie get in? i mean, who opened the door when everyone was at the table?
It's here! It's beautiful! I love getting all the character introductions but I'm also just loving that classic Lenore-Poe dynamic again. And... not soup-er surprised by that ending.
HOW DID I EVER MISS THIS?? JESUS CHRIST I'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK
Edgar Allan Poe: Here is your character card for the evening.
Charlotte Brontë: Oh, she sounds poor!
Also Charlotte Brontë: (was also poor and wrote a best-selling novel about a poor and orphaned governess)
You guys absolutely killed it. This is a perfect example of what a web series should be. You guys inspire me. Congrats.
am i rewatching this for no apparent reason other than it's super great and incredibly well-written? yes. am i doing so at 4am? .......perhaps
Wait... Eddie Dantes... DAMMIT OF COURSE I SHOULD HAVE REALIZED
revisiting this and man the slight differences in the score when each of the characters arrive at the door is such a nice touch! major props to the composer
since quarantine started i honestly think i've watched this once a week, at least
As someone with the name sinèad I feel honoured to share something with this beautiful woman
6 years later and i still randomly add "potluck" onto the end of any sentence that ends with "for friends" ??? this show has SUCH a grip on me jfc
I love that the Emily Dickinson name card was picked up, instead of placed on the table like the rest of the cards
can we just take a second to appreciate the cinematography of the opening, absolutely stunning
This intro sets such a mood for the show
im rewatching this again. just want to say that whoever plays lenore is both hella pretty and fantastic in this whole series
"Lenore! Parties aren't the place for jokes."
Lauren: Now seeing as how I have absolutely no insight into the mind of a woman
Everyone else: Yep pretty much how it always goes when you're acting
"Parties aren't the place for jokes, Lenore" I love this.
+
That cast though! I honestly can't decide who's my favourite....though L.M. Alcott is definitely up there....or maybe Lenore. Or possibly Hemingway? Or George Eliot. Love love LOVE!
I love Hemingway holding the knife in his teeth, looking for someone to fight.
I watched this entire thing for the very first time at Bufferfest and hell I'm going to watch it again I enjoyed it so much. Honestly, this was more enjoyable than a lot a films and shows I've watched lately I'm so glad I came to the screening. It was so great meeting you guys at the festival as well I can't wait to see more stuff from this channel ;w;!
So for my college's Halloween celebration, we're doing this as a play! I'm HG Wells and SO EXCITED to bring this to life. We had to cut a lot of the scenes, and change some of the stuff around, but I think it's gonna be pretty cool. Nothing like this, of course, but still cool. And I have to say I am honored to be performing this and I can't wait for it to happen!
lenore has the BEST expressions.i also wanna know what lip color she has on, its gorgeous (also what does mary shelley use for contour? she's stunning in this series)
