âWant to try hammering it yourself?â
âWhy would I want that?â
đ Jesse is me on a daily basis
I laughed out loud "why would I want that?
đđđLoved his comment too!

I am living for these Chase updates. One recommendation: listen to Jesse because he really knows his stuff when it comes to jumping. Wishing you both lots of beautiful progress!
Chase is so fantastic. He's my unicorn. So smart and beautiful đ and I love all videos about Chase.
Jessa is an excellent horseman. Love his approach. Gentle bitlessđ
Second time Iâve seen this commented now. The first video a bit ago of this was the same
@@cheyennepepper301 Which comment?
@@sara.3042 oh, I meant I saw a very similar comment to yours on another video of his! A little farther bad, when he first said chase was going to start jumping
Jesse: "The blue one is heavy!"
Matt: "I'll take the yellow." đ€Ł
Ya, I busted out laughing at that one.
The Matt temper tantrum for more hammering power was priceless.
IT WAS HONESTLY THE BEST PART OF THE VIDEO đ
Came for Chase, stayed for Jesse giving Matt a lesson
"only one order, he already doesn't listen."
Most relatable thing ever lol
I think Matt is incredible with reading a horses movements and being insanely aware, but I will say this. Jesse has so much knowledge and advice just brimming in him, and it sounds like he wants to tell you. Not out of spite, not out of pettiness, out of just wanting to help. People get smarter and wiser learning from those who already have the skill and knowledge. Granted, Matt is still extremely smart and holding Chase very well, I just think it would be beneficial to take Jesseâs advice
lol I know they aren't in an income bracket to need it, but I would love to see a video of these two assembling IKEA furniture. That would be hilarious!! These practice items were a very thoughtful gift from Jesse for Matt and Chase.
Oh my goodness, YES! I *need* this now. đ€Łđ€Ł
âI want that horse!!â. I feel youđ€Łđ€Ł
you two are the best comedic duo, i could watch you bicker and banter with each other all day
You and Jesse are a great match, balancing each other wonderfully.đ
âCould you imagine...â âyes I could actuallyâ HILARIOUS
Chase is the perfect horse for Matt. Chase just stands perfectly still while Matt talks, no matter how long Matt talks.
Chase is so good with correcting himself and finding a good stride in the middle of the "course" đ I got the feeling though that the distance was a little bit short once you put all the cavalettis up to max height. But it could've been the angle too
Yea same (for everything you said đ đ€Ł)
When I train a new jumpers over cavalettis, I will stride the poles out the same way I would do actual fences or a complete course design. This means I space one full canter stride between each pole which generally translates into to two full trotting strides. I like to do it this way because it prepares a green jumper for the stride count of an actual course with fences. Also, training with the cavalettisits is really nice because the poles are fairly easy to move, so you can adjust the distance between each pole to match your mountâs specific stride length. Obviously, in a true show jumping ring or cross-country course, nobody has the time nor the inclination to readjust the striding between fences to accommodate each individual horse, but for a horse like Chase who is inexperienced and therefore a little bit clunky over the poles (no shade, Chase, I promiseâŠlike I said, youâre still learning), itâs a great training tool!
In my humble opinion, using cavalettis early on to teach a horse to become really in tune with his gait, so in his horsey way, he knows the relationship between gait and stride. The end goal is a horse who can intuitively adjust his stride count when going through any manner of course, with little to no influence from the rider. An inexperienced horse that learns to anticipate the number of strides between poles will, in turn, a home becomes comfortable and gain confidence as the poles get higher. A confident horseâs gait remains fluid and measured which inhibits the urge to hesitate. This probably goes without saying, but hesitation over cavalettis translates into refusals once a pole is replaced with a structure that has width, length, and girth like a fence. Again, it likely goes without saying that no show jumper, hunter jumper, three day event jumper, or any kind of jumper wants their pony to be comfortable with refusing and/or dodging fences. I canât say enough about the importance of tons of training with poles and working on striding early on!
You seem to be off to a great start! Keep up the good work! Also, apologies for yammering onâŠyour video struck a chord with me and my training today!
"and you might be wondering 'why is he holding a hammer'"
ye bro that's a pretty good question lol
Jesse is a mood and Iâm here for it. âWhy would I want that?â đđ€Ł
Only a dressage rider hesitates over "cavaletti" đ
And that was a very thoughtful gift from Jesse.
@@bettysback6560While I agree with you, I also have to defend Matt on that one. Chase is a very tall Thoroughbred, with a corresponding long stride. Plus, Chase can be VERY excitable, and he kept trying to speed up during the whole exercise, which at the most is meant for a very controlled canter. I was a flyer, and competed in both arena and open hunt (now called Cross Country) jumping events. Chase was continually trying to accelerate, and Matt was trying to calm him and slow him down. I would have done nothing different when I was training my hunter/arena jumpers.
Plus, I give Matt a lot of credit for clearly stepping outside his comfort zone! When you start out the video with Matt's comment to Chase something to the effect, "You're not going to kill Dad now," you know he's not in his own zone. You didn't say if you jumped, but my trainers always told me that flyers were always a very different breed of rider (actually, I remember being told I was slightly 'touched' - I am) - and we'll see if Matt completes the evolution. With both an inexperienced rider and an untrained horse, this may be a task; I'm glad Matt is going to have help from what sounds to be a professional trainer đđ
@@larinvermont3271 Chase is not thoroughbred. He is a warmblood
@@jan.vrhovnik Thanks. I have a memory stuck in my head that Mattia identified Chase as a Thoroughbred back when they were still living in Australia.
Keep going with it. He really likes and enjoys doing jumping. Doesnât matter if itâs show worthy, he wants to be doing this
Those poles seem a little too close together for Chase to me. What is everyone else's thoughts on this? Great video though
Totally agree đ
I agree, and especially when they go up, they should space them out a touch further. Chase handled it well, but its ok to adjust distance to the horse too!
I agree he did such a great job tho especially since heâs still new to this and they were a lil too close
Agree! đ
I agree that chase did as amazing as he could throughout the exercise. One thing I noticed a bit was he seemed to flatten out a bit in the middle and through the last few jumps. This is probably just a strength thing he needs to work on, but focusing on helping him stay more rounded throughout the entire exercise would benefit a larger horse like chase. Otherwise, he did so well adjusting to what you were asking of him.
You guys completely crack me up ......
Matt throws a temper tantrum,, ...Jesse nails his thumb...so funny đ you made my day â I want that horse â!!! Cheeky đ
Haha when Jesse said first order and he doesn't listen already đđ
These cavalettis are the best system I have seen
He is improving a lot! He is *was* a dressage horse and heâs used to having a collected canter, but with ShowJumping I think for your approach to the jump I would have more of a forward canter. đđ
I love how Jessie said âthe blue one is heavyâ. You, âIâll take the yellow one!âđđ
Yes agreed, Chase is doing so well for being trained for dressage! He does need to be driven more forward, he's too dressage-collected so when he extends for the jump his striding gets messed up. It's also for Matt to be more confident and ask more of Chase, letting go of the dressage instincts for a bit. My instructor is always driving at me to speed up, ask more, be more active đ
@@emhoj97 yessss! You explained that very well!
It almost looked like Chase could have used just a Lil more room between each poles. He had such a nice organized canter, but was still struggling to fit himself between the poles. He is such a gorgeous horse though!! I love his trot :O
That kiss to the horse Chase from Jesse at the end, he was so proud of him. Lovely warmed my heart. Matt's love for his horse was evident as always. Great update, great present.
Fantastic cavaletti set up! So versatile. What a thoughtful gift from Jesse
Hi Matt and Jesse, Rusty here. I'm still healing from my fractured ribs but wanted to thank you both for giving me something to laugh about. You two are so great together. Enjoyed this video so much and it was great seeing Chase again. He did seem to be enjoying himself. Jesse you come up with some of the darnedest remarks, like why would I want to do that??? Lol. I can't believe how long I've watched the 2 of you, but always great information and showing that you can still have fun. Thank you so very much for sharing your day with us and hope the rain will stop so you can start your new training. Take care and enjoy life always. Rusty in OK
3:52 that exact moment is so incredibly true
Jesse said is all, happy happy happy boy haha. I think it also would be really fun if you do a jump video with Jordy Wilkens helping you. Really love to see chace and his happy ears đ
alles gute zum Geburtstag nachtrĂ€glich. Schön, euch wieder zu sehen. Viele GrĂŒĂe aus Schweden
This was great to see Chase learning! I think he has potential, itâs just how to teach him and itâs great you found another pair of eyes to help you. Jessup was doing very well in this video coaching you though :)
There are many ways to teach a big horse to pick up his feet, so donât stress about that-enjoy the process of him learning-and he is a SMART horse-heâs picking things up fast and thatâs what you want to see!
I guess it doesnât snow where you are? We had 3ft of snow fall and are now in -25C temps. We have indoor arenas, but ugh-doesnât do much in the bitter cold. Oh well, only 2 months to spring!
Matt complaining about the weather is literally me
Matt itâs a good idea to buy and wear an air-jacket (body protector) for while you are learning to jump. You can protect yourself from breaking ribs or vertebrae. Believe me itâs not fun at all
Yes!
I love how Matt just appreciates Jesses present so much and just shows how much he likes it
Need more Jesse and Matt, bickering and being sarcastic(JESSE) with each other!!! ASAP!! xoxo P.S. Chase did really well!! xo
Chase doesnt need clipping. He is beautiful the way he is!
I love when you boys do things together. You're like an old married couple! You're so cute together lol!
3:54 : me looking at horses I obviously canât afford
Great video. Love watching Chase getting used to the cavaletti. That was very funny when Jesse was sitting on the pole as Matt was hammering it and then he quickly jumped up when he felt the vibrations, 3:30. That was very funny, lmao đ đ
I died when Matt was hammering and screaming about the horse
Great teamwork! Its so fun to see you working together on projects.
I think you guys need a quick trip to a nice warm đ beach! A few days in the sunshine will make forget about all that rain. Thanks for the video. It was great.
Hello Boys,
Every time I watch the two of you do things around the farm together, I end up roaring with laughter. I am watching both of you put together the poles for Chase to negotiate.
I love the way you treat your horses, all the time you praise them and show them so much love. All the ones you have now, donât ever let them leave your care, nobody would treat them as beautifully as the pair of you treat them and they would never understand why you parted with them. I send you both love Jane đđđđŽđ§đ»âđŠ°
I loved this video. Nice to watch the progress.
Omg, Iâm rolling on the floor!! When you were hammering!
Loved this video!! Your casual manner is really refreshing đ
so good to see you again
Looking foward to your jumping progress....âĄ
I'd recommend checking out Rocky's journey as an OTTB who was to terrified of poles to quite a careful horse jumping with excellent technique.
There's nothing wrong with Chase as a jumper. He looks well built for it, he has good rhythm, and he doesn't look heavy at all, he actually figures out his feet really well after getting messed up at first. Dont expect that much when they are learning, he hasn't done it, so he's just not going to get it done like an experienced jumper. There's nothing to it other than that, he just has to learn. And remember you're not an experienced jumper, so you aren't going to help him as much, so he might look worse for you, but that's totally fine. Try not to take every mistake they make as a big indicator of their potential or not.
Matt I really enjoy watching your videos with all of the horses.
Matt and Jesse in matching outfits! What a pairđ thanks for another great video (visit) with our favorite horsemenđ„°
Happy Birthday, What a cool gift and lots of fun too.
Happy Belated Birthday Mattđđ hope you had a great day. I love watching you and Chase work out â€đ
Great gift, have fun good luck!!
Happy birthday!!
Jesse is so good at picking gifts! He's very thoughtful! That's such a perfect gift!
I feel like the distance between the cavalettis is off, looks too short for Chase and his big stride. Also let him canter forward! He can't jump a course in dressage canter, you need some momentum :) Hope you have a great lesson :D
Love the video I love your ideas and thinks love you matt xx
Its really nice to see that you still doing fun stuff with chase! A suggestion is to sit in your new brown chair by the horse picture down stairs when you speak in the videos like you do in the end.. I think it would be a very nice setting đ
Hey Matt. Happy be lated Birthday Matt. And you and Chase looked so awesome going over those jumps Matt. I hope u got some great presents too Matt. Love you guys.
Happy Birthday Matt....Well done on the present Jesse.....such a great time watching you both with the horse.... ty for the video
Would love to see you do a session with Ingrid Klimke †she uses cavaletti in a way that is pretty special and it made sense for me for the first time in many more ways than before. Always happy to see Chaseđ«
I enjoyed the video, you and Jesse are so funny together. Loved the cavaletti!
Great video, as always! Love the Equilab App, it's so nice to have a real record of your training. I have 7 horses so I use it all the time! (I've even used it while grooming the arena on the tractor!!) Looking forward to seeing how you and Chase get on. You could really see how much heart he has. Lots of try and cute grunts to let you know he's working that core! lol
that tail tho! looking good matt!
The team work is cracking me up HAHA too cute!
Happy Birthday! I thought everything looked great!
Matt is talking, Chase is dozing. Wonderful vlog! Love you guys.
Belated birthday wishes to you. What a really lovely and thoughtful gift from Jesse.
It was great seeing you and Chase again :) I love the app because it's so full of vital information and oh, BTW, Happy Belated Birthday! *waves* at Jesse *giggles*
I love being early here, I absolutely love chase, heâs so different to my little ottb mare! Heâs looking so amazing thoughđ
I love you two! This video cracked me up! You guys are so funny.
Love your & Jesse video content
Both really sweet and fun content
Great to see Chase.
Very good you found someone close to help and provide some guidance. Was surprised he wasn't wrapped to protect...
Such a sweet boy.
Take care
Love the cavaletti
Good job, this is exactly what he needs. Remember this is a learning process!
I absolutley *love* Chases progression!! đđđ
I cant wait to see how he does once he starts jumping through his back đ€©đ
đ Matt ~ Soooo SO very good to have a home style (and đ€Ș...) vid, its understandable not to get these too often but they are treasures and this one certainly is.
what a wonderful and thoughtful gift Jesse! Happy Horse Chase!

Chase looks very comfy in his winter coat. Works good in the cold. It looks good on him because heâs very handsome đ„°
Chasey did well! Great video! I did think the cavaletti was a bit short for his size but he handled it. Good boy!
I love how you talk yourself through what you need to do like when you tell yourself to establish a rhythm and sit back. I love how you are so open and honest about the fact that this is something new for you and not just Chase! So many equestian CZcamsrs like to act like they sort of know everything already, but every ride is a learning experience!
hey Matt, great video love to see your evolution with Chase. I wanted to know where and how did you acquire those cavalettis, im looking for some myself. Love your videos and horses :)
Awesome job, Chase got his left lead. You and Jesse make a great team. You made my day about Chase being goofy and heavy. My OTTB gelding is just 5 and lazy but explosive. I have the Equilab app but haven't used it. Now my goal starting today. Thank you đ
I love the yelling and hammering scene đ that was too good đ
I love to work my horse with cavaletti. You can build so many different courses for trot and canter. My mare really loves working with the cavalettis, though she is not a great jumper at all (she likes it, but she sucks at it).
And I know the pain of having a horse with a long winter coat. But I never clipped her as well.
Great video.
Another interesting, nice and enjoyable video. Chase did well in these exercises. This system (cavalettis) is ingenious and a real help for both rider and horse (Thanks Jesse!). Moment of anthology (or temporary madness đ€Ș): assembly of the yellow pole. Hilarious đđ Chase is really in good shape and he seems to enjoy working with Daddy. The lessons will help for sure. Add to that the determination and fun you'll have training together and it should do the job! đThank you for sharing, Matt and thanks for your help Jesse đđ„°đ
You should look into Poly Jumps. Definitely need a more forward canter. Great video.
Chase looked so happy and proud of himself at the end of the video!!
This was a fun video! Also I do love the app heâs talking about. It has so many great features it really helps you to see your progress. My only difficulty I had was riding in metal roofed indoor arenas. If you donât have WiFi it wonât track you well. Other than that I love it!
Matt it may be raining and dreary in the Netherlands but you and Jesse are like rays of sunshine đ. Love seeing Chase and you and Jesse are so funny. I was laughing so much at you taking out your frustration with the hammer.
Chase gets better every time đ
Jesse is sooo cute and such a great support!
Chase seems happy doing this!
For hammering the poles in -- get a piece of wood, hold it over the hole and the end of the pole, then then hammer on the wood. It will help to spread the force around a bit. Riding that line looks like fun.
Great exercises! At the end of this video, during the app review, your hair is literally the shape of a helmet! lol đđđ„°
Love these horsemen!
