Learn the basics of poi spinning! Timing and direction is a system for understanding how two objects rotating around a third object can relate to each other. It’s hugely important for understanding the symmetry of how poi spinning works as well as giving a quick and easy way to explore new patterns once you learn them in a single timing and direction.

Fun fact. Thanks to your videos, I have been performing poi! ....in front of my preschool students (age 4) that don’t sleep during nap time. I’ve had up to 8 audience members! 👌😆

+the JaYoe Nation Thank you! This was the first time I really experimented a lot with camera angles and putting together a more professional quality product, so I'm glad the result reflects that work :)

So I'm super new to poi spinning, and I kept getting disheartened at how much I dont know. I just want to thank you for putting for out such a well done instructional serie. I still feel overwhelmed sometimes, but your videos have given me the confidence to keep at it. You have my gratitude.
    With much appreciation,

Thank you sooooo muc for continuing to make these videos! The visual of all the axes when talking about the different directions was so helpful, it helps things click! :)

+kylabunga Glad to hear it! Timing and direction was something I figured out pretty intuitively on my own, but the idea of thinking of it as a product of axes of symmetry is something I got out of a paper written by Cyrille Humen many years ago. If you're interested, you can read the paper here: drexfactor.com/reference/poi_spinning_and_geometry

I had a lot of trouble coordinating my hands for split-time, then I realised it was sort of like I was swimming/walking. And once I realised that it felt almost natural :)

when doing SS is your left hand in front of your right hand when spinning both clockwise and counter clockwise? or do you switch which hand is in front when going counter clockwise?

okay, so there's the same exact comments in ALL of your videos which seems fishy....but I'll comment anyways in hopes you see this. The extra stuff you do at the end of showing us how to do each move...I can't get the hang of it at all. Is there another video of this or am I just not getting something?
