Welcome to my newest series: Watch Me Design A Fashion Collection. It's a little self-explanatory. I'll be designing a collection, sometimes I'll narrate a lot, talk you through my process, sometimes I'll just let y'all watch me work.
I follow the Fashion Design Process I teach in schools and here on CZcams, but this series won't be a 1 video = 1 step in the design process format. I'mma go as slow as I want!
If you want to learn the Fashion Design Process, check out this playlist here: • Fashion Design Process
Watch the entire Watch Me Design A Fashion Collection series here: • Watch Me Design A Fash...

I would love to see a video on fashion knits...Thanks for all you do!!
I recently discovered your channel (better late than never) and can't tell you how grateful I'm to learn some new stuff from you. Thank you!
As a knitwear designer, I have the luxury of being able to design my own fabrics, which I love. But def have the same situation, as initial colors chosen might not match exact yarn colors. Thanks for mentioning that!
It's interesting learning more about fabrics in this video, since I work so much more with yarns.
Yes please more knit videos! And looking forward to checking out your illustrating knits video.
Been a follower for 3 years, from year 2 to almost end of college. Binging all your videos again as I am doing my graduation project now. Recently got an offer on my dream job - pattern maker. Just want to say thanks for everything you taught me. Also big big big TRUE on the "gotta learn math" tip and the "gotta know your fabrics" tip. You don't have to be super advanced but you need to have the basic concept. Most of my peers are great creatives but they are sooo lost in these aspects that they tend to lose touch to sizes, measurements, amounts, drapes, textures, purchasing etc., hence making them difficult to work with as designers because some of the stuff they imagine are just impossible to make or produce (for example, wanting chiffon to stand stiff but refusing to use starch or fusable... what?). But then again I suppose that's why we pattern makers and sewists exist - to help designers turn imagination into reality.
Congratulations on your job offer! I'm sure you'll do great. And yes, designers lose sight of the technical often, which is why I'm always repeating myself. It'll sink in for some!
I learned a lot about the fabrics and I especially liked the singing.
Omg! This is funny; I would probably follow you too if I see you in a museum; not in a stalker kind of way, but trying to learn from you 🥰
Thank you so much! I love your videos. I laugh so hard & learn a bunch! Your videos are so enjoyable to watch.. love you Zoe
I would love to see a video on knits!! I'm so curious as to how to design fully fashioned knits.
Those are some nice looking wools - I like the patterns and colors and different weights.
You have no idea how much i have learnt from your videos. Thank you sooo much for all that you do.
I would love to watch a video (or videos) about fashioned knit process - from design to production stage. Thank you and keep up the fantastic work.
Loving hanging out with you while you ramble about the design process!
Love love love the video. Very helpful :) And ya please do a knit fabric tutorial.
I think its very essential for students to really look at this matter.... Coz mostly they tend to design without understanding and work with fabrics. So thank you for the video...
>>I think its very essential for students to really look at this matter.... Coz mostly they tend to design without understanding and work with fabrics.
I so agree!
LOVE your videos. Please please please keep doing what you're doing!! :)
Yes, please, make a video (or maybe even a series?) on knits!
need more knits videos
Would love a video on fully fashioned knits,, all the terminology, how to achieve different weights and textures. The difference in hand and machine knit.
FYI. Fully addicted to your channel. I have been in the industry for years but love hearing how other people do things, constantly learning and modifying my methods.
I would love to see a video on knit design. Thank you for all that you are sharing about fashion and more. Learning so much
This video was EVERYWHERE ! I love it
Hi Zoe, I just discovered your youtube page and started to watch this series, Ive learned quite a bit of fabrics. Also, wanted to say that this video made me laugh a couple of times while listening to your rambling xD Thanks!
Thanks!
Yes! A Designing knits video would be cool!
Love your videos 💕
I’m learning a lot
Keep it up 👍🏽
Thanks for these videos Zoe! I am tracking along and designing a collection. Super fun! I might be in touch for a consult. Not ready yet though!
two thumbs up Zoe..love your videos
Yes I would like a video on knits vs wovens. Also do you have a video on how to chose the right type of fabric for specific types of garments?
Fabrics playlist
I like the simple plaid too and the other plaids
I love this series, so much! I love the video description...100% true. I also suppose I should watch The Devil Wears Prada, shouldn't I? Also, it was pretty cool to see all the different fabrics. The boro-but-not-boro theme really interests me.
You don't have to see TDWP, but it was amusing. There were def parts I hated. I think the filmmakers expected us to sympathize with Anne Hathaway's character but I hated that character.
every time you laugh i unconsciously start giggling from how contagious it is XD
hahahahaha~
awesome video as always
I would love to a knit design video!
Zoe pls pls show us how to stitch knit . Or different knit stitches as many of us are unaware about the same.
Hi Zoe,
I am a fashion design student in the San Francisco academy of art university, and I am currently taking the designing cereer class, which one of the assignment is to interview an industry professional who has the knowledge and experience. Could you please take some time to go over several questions with me? It would be great to personally learn anf hear some interesting cereer stories from you. The questions are listed as follow,
What products and/or services do you provide?
How long have you been in business?
What is the ownership structure of your business?
How did you choose the name of your business?
Who are you direct competitors?
What was the most difficult aspect of opening your business?
What is the biggest day-to-day challenge in operating your business?
What is your biggest reward in operating your own business?
How did you get your first client?
Where/Who was your financial resource come from? Is it from your family?
Thank you so much for your time.
Kindly,
Shertam
This isn't really the professional way to contact her for that. You should have emailed her privately.
Video on knits!!!
Video on knits please!
Zoe, can you pleeeease tell us how to do a wash test?
can you tell me which fabric compliments with organza fabric? im making a organza kimono sleeve top...
you're my life Hero!!
Hi Zoe, firstly thank you for this video, I’m making my way through the Fabric playlist and it’s been very helpful.
I wanted to ask…
So I know I can walk into a Fabric store and ask for swatches free of charge…what about the swatch cards and headers? Are those free as well, if not how much have you been charged for the ones that you’ve bought?
Hey Zoe, without going into too much detail, do you have any quick tips on how to render linen texture?
Most linens don't have enough obvious texture to render. I have an 8' rule. Pin your swatch onto something, step back about 8'. Render what you see.
Yes! Yes! Video on knits!! :D
It's in my fabric playlist now! :)
yes I'm interested in a Knit design vid :)
Hey Zoe, first of all you're fantastic. Thank you. 😘
I am on LA for only a couple days and I am wanting to visit fashion district to get some fabric to begin my line. Of course you are always my first reference, I just want to know if you have any stores you love in DTLA? Do you recommend visiting the scholarship store at FIDM as well?
Anyway, you're wonderful. Thank you!
Michael Levine's is the best jobber in terms of variety. The store is massive, wear comfy shoes and give yourself plenty of time. They have an upholstery branch across the street too. At 9th and Maple, if memory serves. B.Black & Sons for tailoring supplies, wools, stuff for suits, shirts, outerwear, they're wonderful. 6th and Los Angeles St., I think. I've never been to the FIDM scholarship store. Not in downtown, but International Silks and Woolens on Beverly near La Cienega is fantastic. Have fun!
Thank you! I got a pretty big haul. I am in love with the fabric by the pound 😉 it was a great trip. I did hit the scholarship store and did a tour of campus. Got some denim for $2 a yard. Not a huge selection there, but great prices for what you get.
Thanks again!
Love your VDO.
THANKS !
Please post more videos on knits and 3d knitting
Hey Zoe, I'm a junior in high school. What kind of art classes do you think I should take outside of school to really help with my fashion design portfolio?
Figure drawing and Adobe Illustrator.
Please make a video on knits!!
See my Fabrics playlist.
@zoehong what season are you designing for?
hi, if you did make another video showing the prices of fabric and how it is important in choosing the correct one for your brand price point, can you please share with me the link. Thank you so much for all your videos Im learning so muchhhhhhh.
Saw your other comment!
Hey Zoe !
Would it be gauche to use home textiles to create garments? I feel the textures are more prominent in the former category!
P.S. just ... thank you for doing what you do !
I've never used home textiles while working in the industry so I don't know if their business processes work the same as garment textiles. If you're sourcing for school or portfolio work, that's fine but the biggest thing you have to watch out for is drape. Many, not all, but many many home textiles are far stiffer, thicker, bulkier than garment fabrics, so watch out for that. Breathable fabrics is not a concern for that industry so you have to think about that too.
I'll keep that in my mind ! Thank you !
what do u mean when u say bottom weight and top weight fabrics? does it just mean heavier fabrics are bottom weight?
To teach is to learn twice. #alwaysteaching
aawsome im always stuck in this stage cuz i dont have headers an cant find them so hav u an idea wat to do if there isnt headers
Go to the fabric store, ask if they'll cut you some swatches.
ooh okay ill try that

I am a student so I don't have any headers. How to choose fabrics without headers ?

third #trend
I'm not a designer so this isn't really my video. But I did enjoy the humor and learned a little about materials. I've had over four cups of coffee today. Need my vitamin ines, caffeine and nicotine lol. I know they're bad for me, but they're good for my mind. I think better with coffee and a smoke. Just the way it is.
I hope that's a soft wool. I'm itching just thinking about it. Brings to mind an episode of Rocko's Modern Life, a cartoon I used to watch. He was being attacked by a monster or a ghost, can't recall which. The entity inhabits a wool sweater, engulfs him, and screams "Feel the itch of real wool!" Rocko flails around screaming in agony as if he's being eaten alive lol. I know how he felt.
UGH I MISS SMOKING SO MUCH!!!!!!! Coffee + cigarettes = breakfast of champions.
Yeah you could say that. I'm not a breakfast person. Maybe a slice of toast or Pop Tart. I just don't feel like eating 'til I've been awake a few hours.
