- Welcome to my newest series: Watch Me Design A Fashion Collection. It's a little self-explanatory. I'll be designing a collection, sometimes I'll narrate a lot, talk you through my process, sometimes I'll just let y'all watch me work.
I follow the Fashion Design Process I teach in schools and here on CZcams, but this series won't be a 1 video = 1 step in the design process format. I'mma go as slow as I want!
In this first installment, I discuss what I've been finding inspiring lately and how I go about collecting images.
If you want to learn the Fashion Design Process, check out this playlist here: • Fashion Design Process

Just a bio student wandering by, admiring someone enveloped in a different kind of passion.
Maybe this is strange but this is exactly the type of series I was looking for. Nothing inspires me quite like other people exercising their creativity!
Not strange at all!
Me too! I was looking for videos and found this Gem 💎 of a series even though it's a year later!
@@arianahanley4031 She's awesome! I have watched like five of her videos today =) Thank you Zoe!
I wish I knew you when I went to Fashion School, good information, thank you Zoe to motivate me and inspire.

I like the idea of hyper femininity and masculinity in fashion that is completely separated from gender and works for both men and women. The meshing of the two as well can be really fascinating.
Playing with gender expectations in fashion is always a good time!
This is the best game-playing show in CZcams 😂
Feel free to play along and make pew pew pew sound effects!
I am a complete beginner and you have completely turned me on to the creative process. and the past week i've been obsessed with Boro so for you to bring it up - and connect it to zero waste fashion - is SO COOL. Thank you for what you do, time to get practicing!
Hows it going?
Still like fashion designing?
I' in LOVE with that BORO book. I hate waste. I hate all of the clothing in the landfills. I hate new garments that constantly use new fabrics which the fabric process wreaks havoc on our environment. This Japanese style is right up my ally. It's beautiful, it's charming, It's a story, it's alive!
I love what you're saying about reducing waste, and not pattern-matching in order to save fabric. wonderful messages to spread among fashion designers of the future, thank you!
YES!!! YESS!!!! YEEESSSSS!!!!! This is one of those videos I never knew I wanted, but now that it exists, I FRICKIN NEED it to survive!! Even though your Design Process series was INCREDIBLY helpful, seeing someone actually go through the process of designing a collection would be an absolute perfect way to learn, in my opinion!
Simply cannot wait to see how this series (and your collection) goes!!! And thank you so so soooo much for making this series!!
Actually getting to see and learn how a piece of inspiration goes on to become a garment is something I'm REALLY excited about!! ;)
I'M EXCITED THAT YOU'RE EXCITED!!!

I'm not into fashion really - studied product design now an illustrator... but it is sooo fun to listen to your lectures I think I've found a new channel to watch!
You are literally my favorite fashion teacher! I'm gonna credit you as soon as possible when I'm becoming a legendary fashion designer someday
I just got accepted at the Antwerp academie at only 18 years old... I was really happy until I realized I actually have to do it now haha, these videos help me a lot. Thanks for making them!
Hope you are coping well
This vide gave me LIFE!!! Your knowledge about the fashion industry is extremely fascinating 😍
I could watch these videos all day! Thank you for sharing and teaching. 🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼
YOu're welcome!
Zoe you are amazing, your content is one of a kind and I just want you to know that I appreciate everything that you do. Your presence on CZcams is truly inspirational. THANK YOU for simply being the artist that you truly are and for being authentically Y0U!
I'm an earth scientist and I have to tell you that your description of the rocks is pretty good ;) Of course you know all about texture and colour, and in geology these are the main tools that we use for mineral classification ;)
Yay! I'm so pleased to hear that! *pats self on back :D
I´ve been all afternoon lost in your videos (like I do sometimes) and you always make me have new ideas and concepts that I didn´t imagine to learn and I really appreciate that, I thank you so much for doing this and I really look forward to become as knowledgeable and talented as you are after I finish fashion school.
I love the section about patch work, those pages reminded me so much of Comme des Garçons and Klimt paintings
Yes! A daily uniform is everything! I don't wear the exact same thing every day, but similar variations of colors and silhouettes, which helps me quickly create solid outfits that I know work so I can run out the door!
Also, I'm a fashion designer but rarely create full collections from start to finish and need this refresher! Like you, I also miss designing full collections. So trying to do it more often on my own!
LOVE IT - I am totally inspired. As a costume designer, I get stuck in a rut of designing only costumes projects. I think I'm going to make some clothing for myself! Thanks for the inspo - love your channel!
Yeah! Make some new stuff!
I love that you're inspired by the patterns. They are very graphic, but I also get this vibe, which I enjoy particularly myself, of taking inspiration from the process of the craft aspect of what you're doing. The art about art concept I guess, and purposing something about the process that's typically not presented in the finished product and using it as inspo
I'm so in love with this channel.
ZOE, your channel is the absolute best! Thank you for this series and for your dedicated work. I am going to design along with this series with a video a week starting today! I love this video. I will be prepared next week and excited to watch Part 2 of the design series.
Thank you Zoe . This is what exactly I was looking for. You made it. Donot know where to start now hope I will be designing along with you
Yes to this video series!
Also Chris Applegate highly suggests that grading book
Oh SNAP! I have nothing but love and respect for that man. Sold.
Yeay finally!!! I've been waiting for this video ❤️❤️
Love you, thank you for sharing your knowledge through your experiences and videos.
I love your idea of extra fabric coming with new garments. I was just thinking about this because I have a garment that has a logo on it that I want to cover up, and I'm trying to decide where on the garment I can harvest the same fabric to cover up the logo.
I'm a third semester student and I'm working on a knit collection inspired by crystals atm so this is absolutely perfect! I was drawing in my sketchbook while watching, can't wait to make this a regular thing ❤️
>>I was drawing in my sketchbook while watching, can't wait to make this a regular thing ❤️
YESSSSSS draw along with me!!
You talking through the process. There's nothing like it ! Thank you
This was so inspiring and I want to redo some of the sketches in the collection that I am making because I have so many new ideas. Thank you for making this!
This is teaching me a lot. Gets me excited to create!
I'm knitting my first knitwear collection and watching! Loving this, Zoe! :D
Did you just make a pattern out of construction of a sleeve? Damn, girl! Love your ideas
Yes I did, and I'mma take those little drawings and run with it!
Ha ha - my mom, back in her hippie days, had a pair of brown jeans she patched and patched and patched and eventually you couldn't find any of the original brown fabric. They were very cool.
I love your videos! You are so generous in sharing your creative process! Thank you for inspiring me and my fashion illustration students!
I NEED THAT GEM BOOK 😩
Library usually has amazing books on crystals and gems book like the one in this video. You can find a lot
I haven’t finished this video of yet but I already love it. I love this series continues. ❤
I have that Rock and Gem book and I love it so much and was thinking of using it for inspiration too!
You inspire me to keep studying and doing, thanks a lot 💕 Im willing to see how the whole process of the collection comes out!
You're welcome! Hope you'll study along with me!
I'm studying fashion design at university just finished my first year super proud of myself and ive only now found your channel and i am in love with it honestly going to be soo helpful for my second year loved those patterns from the garment shapes would never of thought of doing that xx
Good luck with school!
i'm attending fashion design school this fall and this is inspiring. keep the videos like this coming ❤
Love the video....its so nice to see someone going through the process...it helped in many ways...thanks zoe....lots of love :)
I LOVE IT OMG! THANKS FOR DOING THIS! I'm a fashion student, you helped me a lot!
Thank you for sharing your creative process with us
I'm writing a character who's a fashion designer (or studying to be) and this series is very helpful to know the process hahahah thanks so much!!
Love the extra patches idea!
I really love the book, I’m watching getting so inspired!
I love the Canson multimedia books. I have quite a few and they hold up to acrylic paint very well. Watercolor is ok on them.
I like the idea of collaging everything that inspires. Your comment about a rust obsession reminded me that I am obsessed with cracked and peeling paint LOL! But when you think about it, WOW! Imagine what kind of clothing line could come out from that?
Geologist here! I love how you're looking at the minerals with their forms and textures. You would be surprised how gorgeous the world of geology is especially when you learn terminologies and structures of formations. I feel like you should take a look at thin sections especially perthites, antiperthites, microcline, and albite because they have some cool structures. Calcite and fossils in thin sections show geometric shapes with roundness, structure, and flow. I think you would love copper bearing minerals of all sorts from carbonates, oxides, sulfides and more.
You might also like labradorite, vivianite, vanadinite, dioptase, potch opals, and ALL the Jaspers.
Thanks for the tips!
Yes!! Thanks for doing this video series!!
You're welcome!
I ve watched this at least 3 times😅 I find it very educative and relaxing at the same time. Can you please make more of these videos Zoe? Thank you! You are amazing!❤️
This is absolutely wonderful. Thank you.
This series seems to have come at the right time! I have been working on a concept for a collection based on Alphonse Mucha, with Victorian (Since that was the era that he became famous in) and Czech influences. Now I can work on it alongside these videos, lol
Yes! Work alongside me!
Hey Zoe, do you know the Marve channel? She makes videos studying, you could do something like that, designing but without speaking, just showing the process, with the noises of the leaves, scissors, pencils, etc. It would be like an ASMR but fashionable :D ♥
That would be very inspiring for both fashion design students and designers. Many times I find myself without time to sit down to design, because of the running around at work and so on. Seeing others designing and taking the process seriously is encouraging.
Loved this video, and just to let you know, I own an apron dress by Skunkfunk. I agree with you about making them a thing!! Thanks for this video!!
You make me laugh right from the start of your this video...I love it! U are awesome
I think I've fallen in love with your channel
thank you for sharing your videos. they're so lovely
Only my second Zoe video but I am loving this. So many deals racing through my brain!
Teach, you are awesome. Thanks for posting :)
You're welcome!
i know this is an old video, but i'm binging your stuff right now and as a genderqueer teen with an incredibly androgynous fashion sense, it means a lot to hear you supporting that kinda stuff so openly!! the recent trends towards more unisex and androgynous fashion has me very, very excited for the future of style related to gender presentation.
Great video, like always! Thank you!
🌺🤗🌺
Viktor and Rolf used a similar technique in their Spring Haute Couture collection in January. They cut up vintage thrift shop dresses and sewn them back together.
Awesome. Still a bit sad ruining vintage garments though. :(
I had learnt many things from this tutorial , yes continue the series i want to learn more from you.
It is really nice looking through materials with you.
It really helped me seeing you making research and I wait more videos about designing collections.
I'm a bit insecure, overall in the beginning part and i'm always there making things better, or more sketches, but I have to stop at some point.
You helped me sooo!! much
Zoe, we've had that style in WA state. It's a great idea to think of the apron as an accent statement piece. It didn't catch on widespread, but I'd totally rock that look again! Please do it!
I've been poking through what leathers I have in my studio to make an apron for myself! With pockets!
Zoe Hong
We we're just rocking whatever fabric that popped with an outfit, like jeans, skirts - long and short, and slacks or shorts. Way cool! Never saw anyone using leather... Niiiiiice!😊
I love working with leather and always have a couple of rolls hanging out around here. I love that y'all are wearing aprons!
rust is so cool its patina is amazing.
I really appreciate watching a creative process that IS a process. It makes the elusive creative genius a quantifiable step by step. I'm a writer, but I'm hella inspired to steal pieces of your system. Thank you so so much for this type of video.
Steal steal steal! That's why I share. There's a lot of overlap in creative processes. Good luck with your writing!
Love this so much thank you so much your videos are soo amazing and super helpful 💕💕💕love from Lebanon 🇱🇧
Love the apron idea......
Aprons! I'M GOING TO MAKE THEM A THING!
In 'Bengali" culture, traditionally women makes comforter for the winter time by using damage or used old clothes by using patchwork strategy and they put their cultural floral handcraft embroidery and storytelling work. It's fascinating to noticed that they realized the sustainability and giving artsy beautiful cultural nostalgia to the used or damage clothes..
Thank you so much for your beautiful touch in details... Very greatful to your dedication.. GODSPEED. ❤️❤️✌️
Love this! Really show the process to get inspired!
I just want to thankyou for the help these videos have given me I truly appreciate it thankyou!!!
You're welcome!
I am really into the concept of showing the original design process! Thanks for sharing with us!
You're welcome!
OMG love this, I was a little confused when i saw the grading book and you pulling inspiration from that but love where you're going with it. I am considering designing along with you and can't wait for the next video.
>> I am considering designing along with you
YES DO IT DO IT DO IT
This is such an awesome idea! I can't wait for more videos in this series!
Zoe, ahh... you're a gift I'm greatfull that I found you
please continue this project. I have come back to see all the videos again. it was very helpful. please complete it.
That's the plan, it's just I have a lot of projects to juggle right now.
Amazing video cant wait for the 3rd part !!😍😍👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The timing of this series is perfect! I need (want?) to design a collection for fall 2018. Just one thing Zoe - "is". Won't say anything more, you'll find it. By the way, I didn't know the thing about pink in the Napoleon era. LOVE that!!
Amazing!! Thank you so much for posting-incredibly inspiring :)
thank you and you're welcome!
I am not sure I am up to it yet but you just accompanied me as I declutter my craft room. Love your insights. I never would have thought to concretise my intent first before even collecting inspiration.
>>I never would have thought to concretise my intent first before even collecting inspiration.
I draw or write everything down. It's too hard to remember everything!
We go again!!!!! Second times the charm.
HILARIOUS!!! PLEASE KEEP MAKING VIDEOS!
Super interesting and is just sooo Relevant right now
oooh my god zoee i was waiting for something like this for long time wow so excited you finaly did it its fun an educatif thanks for da experience
The giggles are my fav..
this is amazing and very informative.
I love it !
i was looking for videos EXACTLY like this
Love your videos 💕
I’m learning a lot
Keep it up 👍🏽
So excited for this!!
Not even 10 minutes in and I am obsessed
Love this!
I admire you so much! I love aprons too, especially carpenter style aprons. I always wear an apron of complementary color. For me it's about the color and the convenience of the pockets. Aprons are part of my daily outfit, and I wear there everywhere always. The only trouble I run into is when I'm shopping. "Excuse me, m'am. Where is the..." Even though I wear aprons and attire that look nothing like the store employees, because I have an apron on, people assume I work wherever I'm shopping.
Love it! Love carpenter aprons. It's like that rule, don't wear a red shirt at Target or people will think you work there. hahahaha
O M G
It's very fun, it's dynamic and very you! Thak . I´m your fan hugs
Yes I designed with you! Yass!
Awesome!
Hey you know indigo (kyanite) and rust are great compliments!!! I had fun watching you process.
They are, they're complementary colors, they work really well together and both fairly wearable colors.
amazing idea *_* i am so exited to see more ... thank you for the motivation & the inspiration you are awesomee Zoe
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN NEEDING ZOE YOU READ MY MIND THANK YOUUUU
You're welcome!
