Nice to see a local AZ car featured. I graduated in 1974 and after 74 there were not too many sporty cars left leading many people to Firebirds and Camaros. I could not afford a $5,000 Trans Am in 1974 but my finances did improve over the last 46 years and I have a 74 Firebird Trans Am, an 80,000 original with one repaint in buccaneer red. You can't be young again but these cars make you feel young again. Put on an oldies AZ radio station and you have been transported back in time. Thanks to the owner and Lou for another great My Car Story.

beautiful car...love the color...the manual is a real score. '70-'73 was peak Camaro. The T code 350 was basically the LT1 but with hydraulic lifters...so you could now get a/c in a Z28, as Chev did not allow a/c on solid lifter cars. The T code was shared between '73-'74 Z28 and the '73-'74 L82 Corvette, although the Corvette made about 10-15 hp more with it's rams horn exhaust manifolds vs the Camaro's log-style manifolds. its a good, fast engine...I have a '74 L82 Corvette and it will still put the car sideways on the 1-2 shift.

Yes, EVERYONE has a Camaro story. My oldest brother had a '69, middle brother, a '75, and I had a '95. In my neighborhood in the late '70's and early '80's, these were the ultimate "1st cars" to have. Good one's weren't cheap even back then though. The best one was a neighbors '70 Z-28. Black with silver stripes, raised rear, Cragar SS's (deep-dish on rear - of course!), LT hood, and a racing cam that made the engine sound like it was going to stall at idle. Super cool.

@@rudolphguarnacci197 Thanks. Those were the days when teens would be working on their cars in their driveways and my friends and I would pass by on our bikes and hang out with them sometimes. The one bad thing was these kids would hot-rod (AKA "butcher") old Mustangs, Chevelle's, Camaro's, and GTO's. They got them cheap during the gas shortage so they were at the mercy of 18-19 year old first time drivers!

I gotta say - even without the extra glitz of Muscle Car Looks - she still is fabulous! Even without the luxury of FM radio - I'd take er in a heartbeat! Provided it was given to me because my wallet is just a tad lean these days. Not that its ever been hefty to start with - I just needed something extra to say, so I said it. That's just how I roll. This Camaro is swwwwwweeeeeeet! I wouldn't want to swap Camaro stories with Mike. I'd get slaughtered! I only had one Camaro - a 68. She was awesome - but dude! Mike had several Camaros! Fabulous car Lou. I remember talking with the local Chicago Chevrolet dealer in 1973 about buying a black LT Camaro. With my trusty Consumer Guide and dealer brochure I knew all the options I wanted. The salesman told me it was $200 extra to order the car Black. A 350 four-barrel V-8, 4 speed, positraction rear axle, gauges were the performance options. The LT gave me the Custom interior. Then President Nixon froze our wages even though we had a Union contract. With rumors of us apprentices maybe getting laid off, I backed off on ordering the car and kept my Red Vega GT. Back around 2014 while attending a Local Lodge meeting one Sunday morning at the Joliet Caterpillar local I was able to look over one of the committee member's special order Black '73 Z-28. I remember he told me he ordered the car new. Examining the Fisher Body paint and trim cowl tag and there were two dashes (- -) where the paint codes were to be.Some nice memories here indeed. Thank you both for an informative video.

When the second gens first came out I didn’t like them so much but now I do. The lines are pretty clean. I wouldn’t mind having one. It could be a plain Jane. That way I wouldn’t have to feel bad about modifying it.
My dad bought a first gen new in 1967. Gold with a black top. Not exactly the same color but close. We moved across the country.
A family of six, we drove from Seattle to Los Angeles then to New York in that 67 Camaro. My eight year old sister sat on a pillow between the bucket seats and three of us rode in the back.

WOW! This reminds of one of my older brothers '73 Camaro same color, dark orange with a vinyl black top, but not Z28, I believed it was a type LT, just a regular Camaro, cannot remember what model type, the bumper is the same, whole, no cut off in the middle. I guess this might had been the popular color of the 70s era. Beautiful engine, with a very nice headers and a stainless steel valve cover and chrome air cleaner, INCREDIBLE engine. You cannot find a car like this on the street of America nowadays. Engine sounds AWESOME when idling and revvying.

Now we're talking, what a beast. Love the early 70s Gen 2 the stance from the factory was just perfect! Frickin awesome car and thanks for the tour. Grew up with a "gang" of Camaro friends but my Dad was a Dodge guy. So my first car was an 71 Duster, wish I had it now instead of my current 81 Z28 but can't afford the price tag on the Mopars.

awesome lou, i once owned a 76 camaro type LT, automatic, the 3rd generation camaro, came with a 305, but after trying to tune it up, discovered someone dropped a 350 in it! ( talking about being confused lol ), the interior is almost an exact match, except the color. great cars, the last of them too sorry to say.

Hi, Lou! The Z28 stuck around through 1974, disappeared for 1975-76, then was revived for 1977. Of the similar second generation Pontiac Firebird, author Thomas E. Bonsall described it as "a piece of rolling sculpture". Mike has definitely found a solid gold (er, copper) treasure with this one! When loved ones are lost it's always great to have a special car like this to remind you of them.
Thanks for yet another wonderful ride, Lou!

Very nice color and engine sound and I loved the spoilers front and back plus the added touch of the high school tassel was pretty cool. I also liked the owner he was nice and fun and had all kinds of Camaro knowledge that was neat to hear. Very nice dire along I enjoyed that so much. One other fun fact that makes the 1973 my favourite year of Z/28 is that it is the first year with A/C as an option and as a fat guy that's important for classic car ownership in 2024.
