    The car's Owner is Ken Nagel. Ken’s had this car since 2017. He shares he met the past Owner of this “Award Winner” and they discussed this “time capsule: Ken really likes this car and bought it. This car is as close to “showroom” new as it gets.

    Those were great. The 429 was misunderstood especially at first but when properly tuned with more timing headers they were animals. 69 and 70 were very good looking cars. Thanks for another SUPER SWEET ONE

    Sounds like the car is breathing when it idles, yes it is factory perfect, not sure I get the importance of not driving it, as in my opinion cars are built to be driven, I would install some new rubber and drive the heck out of it! Interesting find Lou.

    • @mariobalettie9753
      @mariobalettie9753 Před 2 lety

      Hi Ron. As to not driving or starting the car. The car is a MCA "Thoroughbred Gold" Award car. (one of three known to exist) That means the parts including the tires and exhaust are date code correct. Driving the car would damage the exhaust to the extent that it no longer would be a "Gold" car or Thoroughbred, since an entire period correct exhaust system is probably not available anymore.

      Your so spot on! And to not install the chin spoiler is absolutely sacrilegious! This car is meant to be enjoyed. Ken appears to be a stick in the mud compared to the guy who owns & drives his 1970 Boss 429 in another episode!

  • @JackF99
    @JackF99 Před 3 lety +5

    Wow thanks for the episode. Perhaps the nicest Boss 9 on CZcams? BTW in the description the engine was described as a 429 Cobra Jet. The Cobra Jet available in '69 was a 428 wedge head engine. The the 429 CJ was a "twisted wedge" head engine available in the Mach 1 and Torino starting in 1970. The Boss 429 engine uses the unique semi-hemi heads among many other differences.

    Hey Lou! My very first car was a 1969 Mustang! Here's MY car story:
    It was a very plain coupe, I found it in the Recycler classified ads newspaper, late 1977 or early 1978...I think I paid $600. It had been in a front end accident, so the previous owner put a '70 Mustang front end on it! My brother and I worked on the engine in our garage in Ventura County, California, then the two of us took it on a loooong cross-country road trip in the summer of '78. The engine always ran hot because we put incorrect gaskets in!
    A van coming out of a driveway in Hollywood hit my driver's side door...I had it fixed and repainted, sold it, and moved up to a '72 Mustang convertible. Wish I had kept that one!

    • @kimosabbe50
      @kimosabbe50 Před 3 lety +1

      Those old Mustangs all ran hot. My brother had a new '69 Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland and we had to run the heater quite a bit on a June road trip from Chicago to Denver ... Not fun. I'd bet this Boss would likely encounter those same Summertime overheating issues.

This car is also popular, competing with Chevy Camaro, Dodge Charger, Pontiac GTO and other renown Muscle cars. I was pretty young back then, yet I was so excited seeing those Beautiful Muscle cars over and over. This car represents Masculinity with Sporty Classic model, GORGEOUS hatchback design WOW! What a beautiful car, in my opinion 69 was the last great design of the Mustang. The Shelby was my favorite. I’m a 50’s and 60’s fan, muscle cars. What they did to the Mustang in the 70’s 80’s and even now is a crime. I wouldn’t drive it either, roll it out in the sun, pull up a chair with a cup of coffee and just keep it company for a few hours. 👍

    Hi, Lou! Sweet as a candy apple, tough as a Boss, the ultimate Hoss! One source I have says 858 Boss 429s were made for 1969, then 498 for 1970. Ford's slogan in 1969 was "It's the going thing!" and that had to be doubly true for this one! Yes, sir, a thoroughbred in every way!
    Many thanks to Ken for taking this one out of the stable for us, and since this is the last we'll be seeing of his collection, I want to express my gratitude to him on behalf of all your viewers for sharing all his fine vehicles with us!

    What an honor it's been to see Kens exception classic cars. Ford did a great job of redesigning the Mustang up till '70. The '69-'70 Boss is the most muscular looking of all the muscle cars in my opinion. Even the engine looks like it means serious business! The car is a work of art. It must be painful to resist taking it out on a nice autumn drive, but Ken has plenty to do that with! A nice consolation.

    When I was in H.S. in the early 70's i worked as a shop boy at the only machine shop in Titusville Fl. During Daytona race week we'd get very busy with some of the teams using the machine shop and dyno. I was a young teen Ford guy and one day we had a Boss 9 engine having some machining done, the team head mechanic was there working with our Master Machinist and I took the opportunity to ask him about why the Boss was rated 375 vs the 427 sideoiler's being rated 425 HP. He chuckled and said well regarding the factory 427 being rated 425, Ford just stuck a popular number on it, he said the tunnel port with two four barrels made a lot more than 425 and the high riser with two fours also made si8gnificantly more , but the 425 may have been pretty close for the low riser with a factory single four barrel. As to the Boss 9 he said the 375 HP rating was probably pretty accurate with factory exhaust, air intake with smog and the factory carb and cam, as Ford had it suffocated to pass the new EPA exhaust tests. He then said, a stock factory 429 that we receive we blue print it and with tuned headers and hand made two four-barrel intake, with two 1000 cfm holleys and custom cam they would pull 800 HP.

      Correct. The car was originally beautifully done by Rick Parker and then detailed and upgraded to compete for the MCA Thoroughbred award which it won. Becoming one of 5 '69's to do so. Bob removed reproduction parts and replaced them with restored originals or NOS.

She's a boss for sure! I'm going to say there's a reason why the Chin-Spoiler is not on the car - although I don't know what that reason is. But hey - if the dude don't want it on there and enjoys it in the bag - that's his business. But still, though curiosity killed da puddy-tat, I still can't help but be curious. Super Duper Treasure ya brought us, Lou! Thank you 10 bags full!

    Wow Lou there are no words except this car is above outstanding. This the best car to finish his car collection for us to see. Sort of the Grand Finale of sort. This car I could write so much about but it is so perfect what can you say. I would be afraid to drive it myself and can't blame for doing so. The originality of this unit with the stickers the tires and so forth is so interesting. I was noticing the spare tire sticker said B.F.Goodrich made in Medina Ohio that is a half hour from my house Medina is. Back in those days Akron Medina area was the tire capital of the world. Just so intriguing this car is. When was made I was just 11 years old. That color on my computer does not do it justice with that bright red color in person. Mr. Nagel thank you for showing us your whole collection as I had not missed one of Lou's video's of your awesome units. Such a nice man you are Mr. Nagel for letting Lou show us your cars.
