Yes, unbelievable luck in fact. More likely the boss didn't want to lose face. So, my slave didn't escape from me, no, he was trying to honour me by attacking my enemies. That's why he's the boss. Clever.

The boss was probably amused. I figure he probably knew considering it sounds like he made up the story using his prior knowledge of Renton's comrades.
I'm going to have to get a copy of his diary, his relationship with the village and the boss is really curious to me.

I think there's a good chance that Kabu made up the story of Renton's one-man revenge mission. It saves the Big Man the loss of face from having his slave escape and makes life a little better for Renton upon his return, thus making him less likely to try to flee again....This might have been an attempt at a rather clever move on Kabu's part.

That's my thought to yeah. It's embarrassing to not only have a slave escape but steal from you weapons, food. and a canoe. Smart move and it's not like primitive people are stupid. Ignorant sure but they're not stupid.

I mean, from their perspective he stole the war canoe, a club and six spears and headed straight to the enemy village. So the most logical explanation was that he was trying to attack them.
Also from their perspective white people were people from the sea, so if he were trying to escape he would have headed straight to the ocean

I had a French teacher who was this sort of mild eccentric and would spend entire lessons just telling us stories about his life and random events or people. The most memorable being preceded by him pulling a chunk of concrete from his pocket of the recently fallen Berlin wall. He also taught us much more about life in general, and conduct becoming than was ever part of a curriculum. We learnt very little french in his lessons, and I had always assumed him to be English, but that turns out to be because he was himself educated in England and earned a degree at Cambridge. It was only after he died that I found out he was highly respected French aristocracy, a count from a very old line, and indeed the one person who tempers my class prejudices. He never once mentioned it, showed arrogance or superiority or that "Don't you know who I am" personality defect. A man with power who never sought to wield it against others.
Bent as a nine bob note, but a charming eccentric and a fantastic teacher and storyteller. One of few teachers that knew that capturing the imagination is the best way to capture children's attention, and some adults, the one's with a mind that still listens. I had four teachers in my life that were truly exceptional at their jobs, they taught me in turn how to teach effectively.
Still some of the best days of my life, despite not having a choice about being there! Some people are born teachers, but the best are also born storytellers. In times of antiquity Lindybeige would have been welcomed to many a table, fed and watered in exchange for the gift of a hypnotic story, to while away the long dark nights.

Chatting in digital form without faces/inflections to read from do make things difficult and easy to escalate if people are getting a bit annoyed, but yeah there does seems to be a lot of national touchiness internationally atm. About the humor thing though, I really don't think they are onto some esoteric genius like they make it seem "Americans just don't understand hahaha" comedy should transcend these barriers and I don't think good art is super objective for example it would be absurd for a metal fan to think Black Sabbath sucks, someone who sincerely like comedy should naturally flock to "british humor" if it was great.

The idiot whom hit me took responsibility but her insurance convinced her with no video no witness 50/50. Now I'm headed to rehabilitation to get off my opioids. WCB said they would pay. Nope now I'm fighting for them to pay $$48,000. Guess I'll lose my house to get off prescribed morphine.WTF. More and more I feel Ready to pack it in...
You have made my day!! FANTASTIC STORY TELLING... I FEEL SO LUCKY TO FIND SUCH EXCEPTIONAL ENTERTAINMENT. LOOKING VERY FORWARD TO MORE. WISH I COULD DONATE. I WILL CANCEL THE MOVIE CHANNELS SO I can Donate. You must be a history professor, where though?
Thanks for helping me pass painful time away. Wow!!! I feel like such a whimp compared to the infamous "RENTON".

For those upset that he didn't go on a tangent about the navigating watch, basically it's much harder to estimate longitude than latitude based around the sun and stars, and that was one BIG problem for a big while. The solution was to mark midday on your last known location with a very precise watch and then compare that with midday on some other place to find out how much your time zone and thus longitude has been displaced.

Not really. It’s a way to compare difference in declination/altitude at different times of day from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in London. A celestial body’s Greenwich hour angle (GHA) will differ from Local hour angle (LHA) so if you can measure (by sextant) local hour angle and compre it to the GHA you have a measurement of distance in nautical miles from Greenwich. I have missed some parts but it’s a lot more involved than simply measuring which time zone you’re in.

brilliant reminds me of george macdonald frazer in his flashman and other books not just a good read but contains great chunks of fantastic history now forgotten and the really remarkable characters that lived in those times as lindy himself said on another video its amazing how screen writers often ignore the reality of a historical period and instead insert a cliched story of their own instead.of course writing a more factual account would involve research which writers hate to do and the massive spread of historical novels since the internet show that writers prefer to do their research on line rather than actually visit the place or look at original documents. the recent run of box office flops adapted from tv shows is proof of this.the director and writer never take responsibility for the flop but blame everything else though normally the public stays away because what they are watching bears no resemblance to the much loved show. they then admit they er...never watched the original show before making the film.great video lindy.

The UN is seriously worried that the global supply of phosphate fertilizer is running out.
There are very few sources of guano left, and today phosphorus is retrieved from limited sources of rock from a handful of locations across the world ( mineral phosphate).
The phosphates in fertilizer are rapidly leached back into the sea from soils on which it is used.
When guano supplies are exhausted there is real concern the global cereal crop will fail. Look up 'peak phosphorus' on Wikipedia.
Australia's thirst for Guano to supplement it's extremely poor soils has lead to the environmental devastation of dozens of nearby Pacific Islands, including Christmas Island ( An Australia governed Island off the coast of Indonesia).

    Dear Loyd,
I am nearing a stage of my life when I as the authoritative source for my village's history has to be formally passed down to my son's offspring. Woe to me though, as none of my incompetent worthless grandchildren has the memory capacity exceeding that of a goldfish. With the traditions and memories of my village at stake, I now seek desperate measures to ensure continuity of our bloodline stories, and am thinking outside the coconut shell.
I have heard through grapevine at our local trading post the tales of a legendary white-man raconteur who can recount stories and plot twists with deadly accuracy. After learning how to search and watch CZcams (why would you be stuck in a tube? I don't quite understand, but never mind) videos at a nearby Internet cafe, I'm deeply impressed with your non-stop rambling and digressions and endurance to go without a drink. I believe I have found the perfect worthy successor.
As a person who has demonstrated undying passion for things of the past and none of that futurist fantasy nonsense, I am certain you will be highly intrigued and bedazzled by the heroic exploits of our seniors and ancestors. I would like to formally extend to you an employment contract of 15 years for on-site handover of a total of 237, 961 anecdotes. Hopefully that is enough time for one of my inept grandchildren to birth a child who can rival the capacity of one of those shiny rainbow plates you call "Blu-ray". A contract extension is completely possible and negotiable if my great-grandchildren plan requires more time.
You will of course be handsomely compensated for your services. First and foremost, you will have the privilege of choosing a wife (or two) from our village. If none of our tribe meets your expectations, we are absolutely prepared to visit other rival villages to recruit suitable candidates of your preference. Secondly you will granted a complete treehouse of your own for accommodation, built with the finest carpentry skills the world has ever seen; our construction includes technologies incorporated from shipwrecks, able to hold timber together against the strongest of storms. In a true case of natural disaster, we guarantee that rather than you home, the trees supporting the structure will break and give way first; you will be secure and safe. Thirdly you will want for nothing when it comes to food and beverages; we have a whole kitchen full of international chefs from all over the globe to cook sumptuous and exotic cuisines. Not a single day of stay here will feel like work, but more like a dream tropical vacation everybody wishes for. In your off days you are always welcomed to participate in our traditional sport, access our state-of-the-art high-accuracy weaponry and sophisticated durable war boats, to go hunting for animals, fish, or other villages' people.
If you find this contract to be attractive and agreeable, please do find your way to the Port of Liverpool, locate and board the vessel _HMS Blackteething_ and report to Captain Schwyndler. He is one of the finest elite seamen of this generation, generous and lavish with his beverages to all passengers aboard his ship. His crew are a reputed merry robust bunch, great to hang out with, full of resilience and assurances of no shortage of food even when drifting more than a month at sea. We highly recommend you take up his offer of drinks and enjoy an epic journey and feast across the oceans with them before settling with us for an exciting adventure of storytelling and drama beyond your wildest dreams.
    Sincerely Yours,
    Slavordreevor
