Would you forego a long life for a great one?
Q32: The question is whether to pick your normal four score years and ten, or instead burn much more brightly for a shorter time. Which is better?

If you knew nuclear war was coming, what would you do?

The premise may be depressing, but the question throws up some interesting issues. If the end is nigh, is money worth anything? Does society collapse? If only you know that the end is nigh, can you stop it, and if not, should you tell anyone? The first episode of this new style of RPG for CZcams. The first part of a new venture for me. Role-play gaming has been done on CZcams quite a bit, but I don't think ever like this. We see how a small team creates characters and situations, including a complicated web of relationships between characters, so that in the scenes ahead which will be improvised, everyone has plenty of dramatic potential to work with. The lighting may seem odd, but it w...

There have been a few interesting experiences I have encountered in my time doing WoR reenactment. At one Bosworth for example we had a friend of mine acting as a water carrier, she did have a helmet but not much else, anyway the warning of ‘ware arrows and down the come and boof one hits her right breast, five minutes later, left one gets it too. I shall have to get back to doing it but at 55/56 nowhere as active as you!

There's a rather important flaw in your thinking, Lloyd. When people say "save the trees", it's not really about the trees in particular. The process of humans planting and chopping trees destroys pretty much every other living thing that once called that forest home. The forest must be exploited for peak efficiency, which means eradicating everything else to maximize tree growth.

There is a false assumption here. Nuclear war would not be the end of the world, not even close. Even in the absolute worst case involving a worst case nuclear winter, about half the human population would survive, especially in the southern hemisphere. Nuclear winter isn't necessarily a thing, either. An exchange between Russia and the US would kill fewer people relative to the global population than WW2 if there is no winter effect. Assuming it's the end of the world will cause even more unnecessary deaths from suicide, fighting and lack of preparation.

I love this It has given rise to proper acedamic resurch "Comparing Historic Military Capabilities Apples with Apples" The method is evaluated using the infantry section’s machine guns of the Second World War: the Bren and MG42 Richard Fisher RUSI Journal. He gives it to the BREN mainly due to training ( UK troops had up to 4x more training focused on the LMG role whilst the German training was much shorter and included the HMG role as well as LMG role)and Infrastructure/ Manufacture ( Well Lancasters and B-17 explain that )

Money will retain its value until the end because people will be irrational and greedy until the end. There won't be anywhere to spend it, though. No one who works a service job in the US is going to show up for work. Most of us will be spending our money in the bars. Some of us will be spending it in recovery. Spend it we will though.

I'm a "small person" in a big World, so, realistically, there's nothing that I could do to either prevent or minimise the effects of a nuclear war, except on those who matter to me. So, assuming everyone knows: I live in Australia & Australia is a big place but cities & the people in them would be the highest risk to my & my family's ongoing survival, so I'd stay away from them. I'd take my firearms, family, dogs & food out bush (I live in Australia) & camp out to wait & see what happens. Then, when, & if, it is safe to do so, move closer to "civilisation" & see what has happened. Having scoped out the situation, either set up home nearer to a township (or move back home, which is near but not in a city) or move back out bush & survive as best I am able using "survival" skills I have developed over the years.

Obviously a long happy life would be my preference but a short happy life is preferable to a long miserable one. If there's no "guarantee" of being miserable throughout your long life, then a long life emerges victorious again, because a long life gives you more time in which to find happiness & to learn to find happiness in smaller things. I'm 62 years old & have two children & two grandchildren & they all bring me joy in this long(ish) mediocre life. PS: 20 years of bliss added to my 62 is a pretty tempting offer, though.

Well if you manage to survive a nuclear war you will need to survive the aftermath the aftermath would be nuclear fallout depending on the type of nuclear war. And the chaos to come after meaning other humans it will be fight for survival it will be the true for of freedom chaos. Strongly suggest do your best to stock up on medical and food supplies especially seeds and if you can have small live stock like chickens or rabbits or both if possible and better hope you know how to build a shelter im not saying it has to be like our damn luxury homes but at least shit like off of survivor if not find a place that can survive as a shelter. I wont give tge rest of the details or tell you exactly what i would do but i will say this if me the family and friends survive ill make damn sure our community will be secluded far away from the rest of the population and it will be very strategic as well. But the trick is surviving up until that point.

That’s a pretty fatalistic attitude. We are already in WW3 and mostly unaffected. If it goes nuclear, it will be regional. Even with strategic nuclear exchange, most of the population will be alive after two weeks. How most people die after that will be determined by how they prepare now.
