Now thats what i call making a guitar purely roar like a lion. The sound Gary gets from that white Explorer goes right into my bones. What a set he played that night, what a maestro and superb rock performer. I miss you Gary, you were a King among guitarists.

It takes someone very special to cover Wishing Well so triumphantly and bring something new to it. Gary does that all here. A magnificent rendition from Gary, so great as if he wrote it himself. What a great rock artist Gary Moore was. I miss him just as much as any other guitar icon in history.

No doubt about his guitar skills but I'm not sure about his vocals on this. In the middle section then his more bluesy voice is prefect and may possibly be better than Paul Rogers for that part. It may be down to being live plus playing guitar as well which is a lot to do.
I don't think I ever saw Thin Lizzy or Garry solo but I did see Skid Row supporting someone. That would probably have been 71 or 72 I think so I assume I would have seen him then.

I'm not sure I agree with the last 2 comments on this page. As great as I thought Gary Moore was, I'm not sure he was greatest electric blues guitarist of all time. Especially since he had so many more strings to his bow as a musician. He was amazing and could play any form of music, and that was proven by him on more than one occasion, and he sure as hell wasn't underrated. Everyone who listened to the man, knew his abilities with the instrument was off the charts. Also, he was influenced by some of the greatest guitarists of all time, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter, Roy Buchanan and Albert King. I've been playing guitar for almost 54 years, and everyone of the people I mentioned, I thought was outstanding, and yes, that includes Gary Moore, he's definitely placed in that category.

Memories of singing this in 1983 in my first band.
It was summer and the heat in our rehearsal room was stifling.
On one occasion someone across the road complained they couldn't hear their TV as we were so loud, and a police officer stuck his head through the door to tell us to cool it, just as the lead guitarist was smoking a joint. He went white.
I don't know if the cop didn't recognise the smell or whether he decided to let it go, but all the same it was fucking funny.

Gary was no Paul Rogers , but the guitar is great . There are a couple of ironies here . Gary's Les Paul sound is similar to Paul Kossoff's Les Paul sound , but Paul Kossoff did not play on the original Free track , I am pretty sure that Paul Rogers played the guitar on the Free recording using a Leslie speaker to distort the sound .
Now on this Gary Moore version , he is using an Explorer which sounds nothing like his or Kossoff's Les Pauls .Still a great song .

I thought I had the original LP from FREE, but of course I don't it's the gatefold free Story, I'm a HUGE Moore fan tooooooooooo, prob the wrong site, but when did FREE become essentially the Paul Rodgers band? It's the Gate fold OC 407 Free Story, Blue label on the vinyl, tho I def do have a bonifide Dire Straits Brothers in arms (Bought it myself, one of the few RECORDS, yes records, not vinyl, that's what the KIDS call records, that I ever bought - record collection is about 32)rarely played and in a plastic sleeve to protect it, but my fay is PickWick - (prob predates K-Tel) Top of the pops, SHM820 HALLMARK STEREO, NO DATE ON IT BUT THE REVERSE SAYS COMING UP TO OUR 5TH ANNIVERSEY, circa Cum on feel the noise and power to all our friends, both released in 1973, so this is prob 1974, oops, caps off now, I've taken a pic, if any one wants to see it, but I'd never sell it, irreplaceble!!!!! Off to watch Blackfoot's version of Wishing Well circa 1982, nighty, night, I'll check on Wednesday if anyone wants the pic...

Free NEVER became Paul Rodgers' band...that's maybe why they split...Andy Fraser and Rodgers clashed and Paul Kossoff was on a downwards drugs spiral.
Bad Co has become Paul's backing band.
And in the UK in recent years Rodgers has toured as "Free spirit" performing Free's best stuff...yet it's not Free. He couldn't even extend an invitation to drummer Simon Kirke - a fellow Free founder member - to join the "Free Spirit" band. Scandalous, really.
Sadly, the real Free died with Kossoff back in 1976...there was never a chance of the band coming together again without Koss.

Love Gary Moore, love Free...so what's not to like? Gary is not in Ridger's Street as a singer but he's okay here...as for the guitar, he's an artist. Love his Hendrix "Red House" tribute but he can't match Kossoff, for me. To those who posted that Koss did not play on Wishing Well, you're wring...I have that from drummer Simon Kirke himself. He (Koss) cut the track on the single and album.
However the USA version of Wishing Well featured a cut that did NOT have Koss on lead...the British/Euro original is the best one to listen to.
    But...Nice work from Gary here!
