I couldn't agree with you more. I remember INSTANTLY loving this song upon hearing it for the first time as a boy. A local DJ here played it often at the time it was released. But I could never understand why the song wasn't huge. At least here in the US. As often times, there is fantastic music that does well in Europe but goes almost completely unnoticed in the US. By the way, you can see this entire video unedited from beginning to end, with bonus footage, at GARY MOORE "Out In The Fields" Official Video, by Ovidiu Buzdugan Romcea. 😊
not that underrated actually....... it was a major hit back in the day...... infact, not sure, but this was probably the highest charting song Phil ever done...... that's why early MTV was such a great thing..... it helped a lot of talented musicians to market their music commercially...... it wasn't just pop crap on there like these days......
@Dr Diablory Life can be awful at times. The wonderful Evelyn Glennie is deaf though and Mozart composed some of his best pieces when he couldn't hear. Saying that I'd probably lose my mind if I lost my hearing! All the best Dr. Diablory, hang on in there mate.
One of the best hard rock songs ever written - it has everything, great melody, beat and vocals. The guitar solo is second to none complete with a brilliant scale to take the solo to a peak with delay to finish and the mandatory key change to take us into the final chorus. Since the song is centered around a military theme what better way to finish than incorporating 'Johnny Comes Marching Home' with the song ending with an explosion. Not withstanding the work they did together in Thin Lizzy Gary and Phil could have done so much more so it is tragic that both are deceased now - what a loss to the music world. 'Out in the Fields' will remain my all-time favourite hard rock songs.
With all due respect, it is protest-themed regarding the civil unrest in their homeland of Ireland at the time. Very much like what is happening here in the United States today. It was addressing religion and the dividing of the nation. Eerily and ironically, the song's protest theme is very relevant here in the U.S. of all countries, today in 2020. GARY and PHIL would be both appalled and saddened by what is happening here in the United States of America. ☹
