I think a lot of people are forgetting that Choa left AOA because of her mental health, and basically disappeared from the public eye for a few years. After she took care of herself and was in a better place, she suddenly came back and surprised everyone. Having a mental health issue is not free license to be destructive or hurtful towards others. I think she should go into an in-house/in-patient depression rehab center if ever there's any. The lack of both social validation and hate would help ground her and shift her focus smaller, so she gets to listen and reflect on herself, instead of excitedly waiting for the rebound of whatever scandalous thing she teases people with. And maybe seeing strong and brave people who keep on fighting to get themselves better will inspire her to finally release all that resentment poisoning her inside.

I am diagnosed with Bipolar II and BPD but I don't do something shitty and blame it on my disorders. And I'm doing something to manage my symptoms, not let them control my life and continue hurting the people around me. How Mina uses her mental disorder as both a shield and a weapon just bathes other people with mental disorders in a bad light.

Some people need to understand that yes, Mina has mental health issues (no doubt), but that doesn’t justify her actions. Just because she has a condition that makes her feel miserable, doesn’t mean that she can go around making others feel miserable as well. As a legal adult, she NEEDS to take responsibility for her actions and words. Questioning and finding holes in her story to further clarify her side isn’t “hate”. A lot of Koop fans don’t trusty care about mental health, they care about their idol. If they were really concerned about mental health, they wouldn’t make others feel like absolute garbage for being neutral about the situation.

I presume she wasn't always this bad. The past year seems to have made her worse and worse to where she is indeed like the k-pop Gabbie Hanna now unfortunately. Still, Hyejeong and Mina claim to be best friends like Seolhyun and Jimin. Mina also originally stated no ill will about AOA as a whole. Their former drummer said there was issues n the dynamic in general. I'd presume the group got along as a whole well enough with just a bad dynamic between Mina and Jimin that obviously leaks into the others and impacts them over time. Its sadly not uncommon to have a friend group where two of their in-fighting causes drama. I'm not saying this as an excuse or anything, only to maybe say "hopefully it wasn't as bad for AOA the whole time?" but sadly we will never know for sure

However she’s always had that victim complex, it’s easy to spot someone like that when you’ve been raised by one. Like for example only going to three lessons in your ten year career and playing the victim when getting reprimanded. Choa even admitted that she gave up on Mina because she wouldn’t listen nor take responsibility. It seems the bullying and “revenge” she’s doing to Jimin didn’t start until last year. However, She was clearly always doing the bear minimum and not contributing to the group and getting offended when being called out for it. On top of that she was abusing her power as an idol to get the staff and managers of FNC to bend to her every will. Also, whenever she had a problem with someone she would talk badly behind their back, like how she did with Jimin, Chanmi, Choa, the nurse and her own sister. In my books, that is being very toxic and and ruining teamwork.

I don't know mina. But I don't expect anything from people in general and even less with people that are at their worst in their disorder. I mean I suffer from bipolar and take my medication and go therapy and everything else. I know I have manipulated (nothing to do with bipolar but trauma and its coping mechanisms) people but the thing is that I didn't even know that I was doing it back then, even to this day I have to take a step back to see what I'm doing. When I was at my worst, I wasn't thinking about people, I didn't even think that there was going to be a tomorrow. Doesn't mean that I was a bad person, the thing was that I didn't care. I'm lucky that I survived all those tentatives to suicide (the pills to overdose weren't enough; the place I wanted to drown was taken away for me; i was too tired and ended up falling asleep). I don't know, someone that is this ill like I was, they can't take care of themselves. You can't expect people to change just because you want to. If they are like me, then they don't know anything else but their way of living. And I was terrified to change since I didn't know any other way to behave, to interact with people, to live just in general. It's not an excuse for being an asshole but it's an explanation. I caused harm to a lot of pleople and I take responsability for that. But again, you shouldnt expect anything. It's like saying to a blind person to just live normally without giving them the tools they need to do it. I was pushed to go to therapy after my boyfriend saw all the panic attacks I was having. As someone who has struggled with mental illness accountability is so important. I have had a friend like Mina. I sat right there while a situation happened and she lied through her teeth about it to make it seem like our friend attacked her. I believe Mina and Jimin had conflict just not in the way Mina says. I truly think Mina blew up situations in her head and tells them as she portrayed them. If Mina did get it the hardest it's understandable that the leader of your group would be upset that one of the members would rather get hair surgery than practice. Jimin did the best thing she could leave the group without acknowledging Mina’s bullying accusations. Mina continues to expose herself.

My intentions aren’t to diagnose Mina since I’m not a professional but it’s quite telling how she always clarified that she only suffers from severe depression, anxiety, and insomnia (the commonly romanticized mental illnesses) and strongly makes a point that she doesn’t have mythomania, bipolar or borderline personality disorder. Like okay? So she’s basically confirming that as she doesn’t have any of mental disorders that would lead her to exhibit this behaviour, it’s just her personality that’s histrionic and manipulative.

In light of recent events (ie the Dispatch article that was released), I realized how hypocritical a lot of Mina supporters are. They’re crying about how articles like that, which “paint Mina as the bad guy”, are bad because Mina’s suffering from mental health problems. What about Jimin? What about *her* mental health problems? Sure, she hasn’t been vocal on social media. But still, who gets harassed/bullied out of an industry that you’ve devoted your entire life to (between training and working in) and comes out of that situation feeling amazing? She must be devastated. And think about all of the alleged “bullying” that Mina accused Jimin of putting her through. Now multiply that by millions and have it all happening in a month. That’s what Mina put Jimin through because the entire world was out to destroy her. So, when an article like that comes out and gives support to Jimin’s side of the story, don’t bring up Mina’s mental health as a reason to not post stories like that. This is because in doing so, you’re dismissing Jimin’s mental health. The truth always comes out. And you need to listen to it.
Now it makes perfect sense why Mina is so obsessed with demanding an apology from Jimin, coz if she had apologized, she would have used this as her one and only evidence that she was bullied as she claims. But because Jimin did not fall for her trap, she has no definitive proof, so she resorted to trial by publicity instead of going to court. Had she agreed with the investigation, the burden of proof would have fallen on her. I can’t understand why people easily believe her without proof. not to diagnose mina or anything (because i’m not qualified to) but as a psychology student and someone who’s seen how personality disorders work, even without digging that deep into mina’s case, it really does seem like she’s suffering from a cluster b personality disorder (which includes narcissistic personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and histrionic personality disorder). this is just my opinion formed based on my understanding and research on personality disorders so take that how you will. i have a problem with people showing her sympathy because it’s giving her motivation to continue. if she does have a cluster b personality disorder ESPECIALLY either npd or apd, then she is most likely feeding off of the positive attention. it fuels her and her ego and she will continue if mina supporters don’t stop. she doesn’t deserve hate, but she also doesn’t deserve sympathy. people need to leave her alone and don’t give her any attention. on a side note, typically people with personality disorders don’t realise that there’s a problem with their behaviour unless told otherwise and even then, they could try to justify their actions or deny that what they are doing is harmful. tl;dr: don’t give mina attention neither positive or negative. she needs to be left alone and if she can’t realise that her actions are harmful to the people around her and herself, then that’s on her. you can’t help a person who doesn’t want to be helped.

@@absolutelynotellen they are two completely different things, but symptoms can overlap with each other in certain cases. bpd is more categorised as having unstable moods and relationships, whereas apd is categorised as a lack of remorse and antisocial behaviours (or behaviours that go against social norms/laws; e.g.: manipulation) that are persistent. a main commonality between the two is impulsivity. sometimes people jumble up the two disorders because of that similarity. also, people with bpd can engage in antisocial behaviour, but it doesn’t necessarily indicate antisocial personality disorder. those are just very general symptoms, though. i would suggest doing research on your own, but you’ll easily find that the two are very different and have their similarities.

Mina is using mental illness as a blank check to be a terrorist. Reading the texts I was shocked how thoroughly unsupportive the members were to Jimin. Seeing Choa demand an apology for Mina’s perceived and totally not based in any reality slights was crazy. Especially she only demanded Jimin apologize to these perceived slights after Mina self-harm baited the Groupchat. You’d expect an informed adult to be like “Mina it’s wrong and cruel to hold self-harm over us to get what you want” but no they fell in line and the expected happened, Mina keeps shifting the goalpost so no solution or genuine resolution could be achieved. Jimin in those texts handled this way better than I expected and I left feeling more respect for her but also true disappointment in some of the members of AOA, who I think accidentally emboldened Mina’s delusions.

Agree! because of her childhood trauma and everything I think her personality has become like that. So even when she faced a slightest inconvenience and disagreements with members she might have thought it was bullying. It is a plausible scenario but without knowing the personalities involved personally or doing a psychological evaluation, I would hesitate to render judgement on any of the parties involved. To me the most alarming thing that requires immediate action is Mina's spiralling mental state which if untreated is highly likely to result in personal injury or death of someone.

I second that. I myself got bullied for most of my life (as I'm now soon leaving school so I'm still young and that's why to me it seems like it's so much. But I know for a fact that that will change and I will face happier days. But anyways) and while I have some amnesia of certain events due to some things being so harsh and traumatic that my brain just pushed it away I can prove all the things that happened. Even the things I can't access in my mind (at least when not having flashbacks). Some people need to understand that yes, Mina has mental health issues (no doubt), but that doesn’t justify her actions. Just because she has a condition that makes her feel miserable, doesn’t mean that she can go around making others feel miserable as well. As a legal adult, she NEEDS to take responsibility for her actions and words. Questioning and finding holes in her story to further clarify her side isn’t “hate”. I presume she wasn't always this bad. The past year seems to have made her worse and worse to where she is indeed like the k-pop Gabbie Hanna now unfortunately. Still, Hyejeong and Mina claim to be best friends like Seolhyun and Jimin. Mina also originally stated no ill will about AOA as a whole. Their former drummer said there was issues n the dynamic in general. I'd presume the group got along as a whole well enough with just a bad dynamic between Mina and Jimin that obviously leaks into the others and impacts them over time. Its sadly not uncommon to have a friend group where two of their in-fighting causes drama. I'm not saying this as an excuse or anything, only to maybe say "hopefully it wasn't as bad for AOA the whole time?" but sadly we will never know for sure

However she’s always had that victim complex, it’s easy to spot someone like that when you’ve been raised by one.
Like for example only going to three lessons in your ten year career and playing the victim when getting reprimanded. Choa even admitted that she gave up on Mina because she wouldn’t listen nor take responsibility. It seems the bullying and “revenge” she’s doing to Jimin didn’t start until last year. However, She was clearly always doing the bear minimum and not contributing to the group and getting offended when being called out for it.
On top of that she was abusing her power as an idol to get the staff and managers of FNC to bend to her every will. Also, whenever she had a problem with someone she would talk badly behind their back, like how she did with Jimin, Chanmi, Choa, the nurse and her own sister. In my books, that is being very toxic and and ruining teamwork.

As someone who has BPD and also has a bipolar father, it is HER responsibility to manage her mental health and as an adult, she is responsible for her actions and certainly knows exactly what she’s doing.

I don't know mina. But I don't expect anything from people in general and even less with people that are at their worst in their disorder. I mean I suffer from bipolar and take my medication and go therapy and everything else. I know I have manipulated (nothing to do with bipolar but trauma and its coping mechanisms) people but the thing is that I didn't even know that I was doing it back then, even to this day I have to take a step back to see what I'm doing. When I was at my worst, I wasn't thinking about people, I didn't even think that there was going to be a tomorrow. Doesn't mean that I was a bad person, the thing was that I didn't care. I'm lucky that I survived all those tentatives to suicide (the pills to overdose weren't enough; the place I wanted to drown was taken away for me; i was too tired and ended up falling asleep).
I don't know, someone that is this ill like I was, they can't take care of themselves. You can't expect people to change just because you want to. If they are like me, then they don't know anything else but their way of living. And I was terrified to change since I didn't know any other way to behave, to interact with people, to live just in general.
It's not an excuse for being an asshole but it's an explanation. I caused harm to a lot of pleople and I take responsability for that. But again, you shouldnt expect anything. It's like saying to a blind person to just live normally without giving them the tools they need to do it.
I was pushed to go to therapy after my boyfriend saw all the panic attacks I was having. But if it was a thing that I had to do on my own, then I wouldn't have done it.

As someone who has struggled with mental illness accountability is so important. I have had a friend like Mina. I sat right there while a situation happened and she lied through her teeth about it to make it seem like our friend attacked her. I believe Mina and Jimin had conflict just not in the way Mina says. I truly think Mina blew up situations in her head and tells them as she portrayed them. If Mina did get it the hardest it's understandable that the leader of your group would be upset that one of the members would rather get hair surgery than practice.

My intentions aren’t to diagnose Mina since I’m not a professional but it’s quite telling how she always clarified that she only suffers from severe depression, anxiety, and insomnia (the commonly romanticized mental illnesses) and strongly makes a point that she doesn’t have mythomania, bipolar or borderline personality disorder. Like okay? So she’s basically confirming that as she doesn’t have any of mental disorders that would lead her to exhibit this behaviour, it’s just her personality that’s histrionic and manipulative.

In light of recent events (ie the Dispatch article that was released), I realized how hypocritical a lot of Mina supporters are. They’re crying about how articles like that, which “paint Mina as the bad guy”, are bad because Mina’s suffering from mental health problems. What about Jimin? What about *her* mental health problems? Sure, she hasn’t been vocal on social media. But still, who gets harassed/bullied out of an industry that you’ve devoted your entire life to (between training and working in) and comes out of that situation feeling amazing? She must be devastated. And think about all of the alleged “bullying” that Mina accused Jimin of putting her through. Now multiply that by millions and have it all happening in a month. That’s what Mina put Jimin through because the entire world was out to destroy her. So, when an article like that comes out and gives support to Jimin’s side of the story, don’t bring up Mina’s mental health as a reason to not post stories like that. This is because in doing so, you’re dismissing Jimin’s mental health.
The truth always comes out. And you need to listen to it.
Now it makes perfect sense why Mina is so obsessed with demanding an apology from Jimin, coz if she had apologized, she would have used this as her one and only evidence that she was bullied as she claims. But because Jimin did not fall for her trap, she has no definitive proof, so she resorted to trial by publicity instead of going to court. Had she agreed with the investigation, the burden of proof would have fallen on her. I can’t understand why people easily believe her without proof. How can they allow and help her destroy the lives of five girls, who did nothing but work hard nonstop to better their craft and give happiness to their fans, without real evidence is beyond me. not to diagnose mina or anything (because i’m not qualified to) but as a psychology student and someone who’s seen how personality disorders work, even without digging that deep into mina’s case, it really does seem like she’s suffering from a cluster b personality disorder (which includes narcissistic personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and histrionic personality disorder). this is just my opinion formed based on my understanding and research on personality disorders so take that how you will.
i have a problem with people showing her sympathy because it’s giving her motivation to continue. if she does have a cluster b personality disorder ESPECIALLY either npd or apd, then she is most likely feeding off of the positive attention. it fuels her and her ego and she will continue if mina supporters don’t stop. she doesn’t deserve hate, but she also doesn’t deserve sympathy. people need to leave her alone and don’t give her any attention.
on a side note, typically people with personality disorders don’t realise that there’s a problem with their behaviour unless told otherwise and even then, they could try to justify their actions or deny that what they are doing is harmful.

bpd is more categorised as having unstable moods and relationships, whereas apd is categorised as a lack of remorse and antisocial behaviours (or behaviours that go against social norms/laws; e.g.: manipulation) that are persistent.
a main commonality between the two is impulsivity. sometimes people jumble up the two disorders because of that similarity.
also, people with bpd can engage in antisocial behaviour, but it doesn’t necessarily indicate antisocial personality disorder.
those are just very general symptoms, though. i would suggest doing research on your own, but you’ll easily find that the two are very different and have their similarities.

You’d expect an informed adult to be like “Mina it’s wrong and cruel to hold self-harm over us to get what you want” but no they fell in line and the expected happened, Mina keeps shifting the goalpost so no solution or genuine resolution could be achieved. Jimin in those texts handled this way better than I expected and I left feeling more respect for her but also true disappointment in some of the members of AOA, who I think accidentally emboldened Mina’s delusions.

You may attack me (IDGAF TBH) but i'm gonna say it. I am pretty sure she wasn't bullied in AOA. She might have had some fights and arguments with the members (duuuuh, you are in a GG, you can't avoid such things). And i am pretty sure that Jimin, being the leader was the one to directly confront her bullshit in order to ensure AOA's success (therefore MINA's as well). Mina, having a "twisted" personality and, therefore, a "twisted" way of perceiving things,(i hope you've come to terms that she is addicted to sympathy and loves altering the reality and blowing everything out of proportion in order to get what she wants) might have interpreted every little fight, argument, annoyd tone, annoyed look, lack of honorifics( i know, horrendous) etc, as something similar to bulling and even worse.

I think jimin was a tough leader and felt like mina wasn't pulling her weight in the group. Tbh I still don't understand how she lasted that long in AOA. I can't imagine having to deal with her for years.
Agree! because of her childhood trauma and everything I think her personality has become like that. So even when she faced a slightest inconvenience and disagreements with members she might have thought it was bullying. She deliberately targeted Jimin because after Queendom AOA was getting popular again, Jimin was a leader, has a loud personality, she's a Unnie, she has authority so if she says Jimin bullied her everyone would believe (hierarchy and respect thing in korea taken very seriously) she later dragged other members in her story for silly reasons.. She knew if the leader got kicked out, the group will fall. Jimin was the backbone of AOA, her image was tarnished, so was other members, FNC had no choice to let Jimin leave the group and make others members activities get haulted.

It is a plausible scenario but without knowing the personalities involved personally or doing a psychological evaluation, I would hesitate to render judgement on any of the parties involved. To me the most alarming thing that requires immediate action is Mina's spiralling mental state which if untreated is highly likely to result in personal injury or death of someone.
Oh I also think Mina is trying hard to ruin Seolhyun's reputation out of jealousy! By calling her a bystender, a bat, and write her name on a scd note. But thankfully Seolhyun has loyal fans. Even Taeyeon & all the celebs are still on Seolhyun side. Thats why after a year she finally said that only jimin who bullied her, because Mina couldn't get into Seolhyun. Poor Jimin everyone believed Mina the second she spoke.
People need to talk more about Chanmi in this matter too. She has depression too, on their earliest years it was so severe her mom had to move to Seoul to make sure she didn’t commit suicide. I myself got bullied for most of my life (as I'm now soon leaving school so I'm still young and that's why to me it seems like it's so much. But I know for a fact that that will change and I will face happier days. But anyways) and while I have some amnesia of certain events due to some things being so harsh and traumatic that my brain just pushed it away I can prove all the things that happened. Even the things I can't access in my mind (at least when not having flashbacks). And her attacking others and especially Jimin might be seen as reaction, coping and her "gaining confidence" by some but to me that seems very unlikely because like you said, when you're getting bullied you try to avoid the bully in any way possible because of how horrible they make you feel. And I don't think "gaining confidence" shows like that... her behavior is straight up like... being the bully not "confronting the bully". Especially the thing she does with like showing her selfharm, talking about how horrible she feels and especially threatening to commit suicide whenever someone else gets attention and when ever she gets proven wrong is just straight up (correct me if I'm wrong) emotional abuse and manipulation in my opinion. Because yes, it's good to express your struggles but most of the time a person with issues like that doesn't do it in that way on an online platform, that many times and like voluntarily. Usually. Everyone is different and I don't wanna invalidate any coping mechanism but to me her behavior looks like she desperately wants attention.

I HATE the notion that people who suffer from mental health issues cannot be critizied or that their actions are somehow justified because of their mental health. As someone who suffers from a bunch of shit, please hold people accountable. It may look different because the way to best approach someone who is suffering from mental health issues will probably be a bit different, but there has to be accountability or else those people will never learn.

I unfortunately had a boss just like Mina during my internship and it made my life hell. She would constantly bully me, exploit my skills and wont let me be friendly with anyone at work.
