I love watching a hodgepodge project come together so beautifully
In some alternate universe the scrappy Felt Compulsion is hosting a vlog exclaiming the benefits of upgrading its rider. "Months of marathon training and xc concentrated riding has really paid off guys!" "He's feeling better than ever!"
Those shitposting Felt on Reddit, they're the worst ...
Great video, I'm so pleased your chain stayed mostly on. Just a narrow/wide chainring and a quieter reart shock and it'll be complete, and money still in your pocket. Love it.
"I'm a man of word sometimes" was very funny. Classic Spindatt. Also I love the return of gear gab!
I put a new handlebar, stem, grips pedals, removed front derailleur, put a narrow wide 32 tooth chain ring, the old 11 speed chain from my trail bike, and new “Canadian tire” tires on an old 26” giant Yukon. I hated the bike before… but I wanted to give it another chance. I took it to my local trails, and the thing surprised me. I actually had a ton of fun on it and it held up really well. Made me smile, and to be honest, that’s what it’s all about. Nice to you do the same to that Felt!
Stumbled on your page, fun build.
So buy the frame you want as a bike and sell the takeoffs on pinkbike. Easy peasy.
That bike kicked ass, put the right sprocket on and it'd be a winner. Looks light.
These types of builds are always great to watch. Seeing the reaction when the bikes work better than expected always makes for an interesting video. Videos of bikes I will never be able to afford is neat and all, but these types of bikes are much more relatable. Looking forward to the progression of this.
In 20 years I NEVER bought a fully built bike, since like this guy I like building bikes and you get something you like more in the end.
I've built all 3 of my current rides by hand, for just this reason. plus i've saved a good amount of money in labor... Not that tools aren't expensive, but i use them so often and can help my friends save money and keep us all rolling
Awesome. The bikes I wind up liking the best are always the ones I care least about when I’m building them. They also wind up being the ones that don’t conform to what folks typically consider awesome.
There’s probably a lesson in there, but I’m too busy to learn it.
I built up my project bike over this winter, a 2001 castellano fango, with the original intention of cool old frame + cheap parts with progressive upgrades.
Cheap ixf crankset, micro shift adventX drivetrain, hand me down parts from when I upgraded my other bike, and a $120 Amazon air fork.
And I got as far as changing the crankset and bb to a hope evo set and found “hey wait a minute, this thing is already absolutely dope”.
I’ve been riding it to work through the woods every day and I have no further desire to “upgrade” anything on it. Cheap xf2046 wheels? Perfectly fine. Chinese air fork? Zero issues after several months. Drivetrain? Better than what’s on my other bikes anyway.
There’s stuff I could upgrade, but even as it is, it rides great. I wonder how often that happens with cheap builds?
Really Lovin" Gear Gab...("Coffee Talk" with Linda Richmond)
Stick an old CDC chain tensioner on it it'll look good on that old frame they worked fantastic back in the day on my jump bikes keeping the chain on
Rossignol still had parts for the 2015 compulsion. Would expect them to be similar or even have the older model parts. Most of the rattle will be in the igus bushings around the top and bottom of the equilink. I've had to replace those more than any other part. They shipped the parts from Montreal and it wasn't as expensive as I expected.
Very cool to see that this build worked out better than expected, I am excited to see what Episode 2 holds, Cheers man!
Dude, you gotta come for a shred in Ontario!
Okay so since you've spoken a bit about chains falling off, I need to preach the janky tensioner/guide
Ive used a hacked piece of a carbon bar, with two drilled holes. You use zip ties to hold it to the chainstays, guide the chain through the tube, and it keeps tension and alignment on the chain. Might help with the very minor drops on the ride and most of them in the shop, since I bet it's mostly alignment.
Lol! you're a man of your word "sometimes".
Reasonably priced bikes!!!!!!
$0 build, that's the best!
Comment because it improves Al Gore's Rhythm or something.
love your matching outfit to your background of the shed
The lighting on this ride is so interesting
Your parts bin bike is better than any mtb I've owned.
Can't even afford a parts bin mtb at the moment 😂. My bikes are all $50 used😅
I've always loved that bike and wondered when you would build it up. Can't wait to see what you do to it next!
What's up Norton! 👋🏼
Whatta ghetto build..... I freaking love it! Got a few of em me self.
Nice to see your dog
Good vid👍🏾👍🏾
Weird outcome.....but it works....= sorted !!!
Coincidentally …..just re-vived a DB hardtail alloy 26” bike. Tektro hydro brakes (from e bike) rockshok hydracoil??!!! Maxxis mobster/high roller!! And 800 mm bars from my all city. 26” is zombie?!
Really entertaining video! Really appreciating watching all your fun builds. As someone that has experience with Marino frames, would a Marino Siqay frame, 140mm back 150mm front, be overkill for the kind of trails you bike in this video? Right now I have more of a frankenbuild like in the video.
How about adding in one of those headtube angle headset? It will slaken the headtube and lower the BB.
Saw a used size large Status on Marketplace listed locally today, a few clapped out parts on it (pedals stuck in cranks, nick on fork stanchion) but might be able to get them down a bit and part out some of it and get the frame for not too much? Just a thought as I know you mentioned you had your eye on a Status frame in the last video
that front tyre looks super sketchy, good riding!
Seems to work well, and you had fun. Any better way? I think not. Chainring?? Maybe someone got a used NW Chainring. But for havin fun it's a nice bike.
I know that look at 11:39. Tinker or not to tinker, that is thy question.
I know you already have one, but Marino does make the siqay full sus frame for $600 usd
you know what else you will hate works better than you thought.....Drops on your Norton....hell, ill take any mtb of yours now.
Put a crazy steerer extension on the Gyro bike and put drops on it? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Would look cool with no paint
News flash, its not a POS. Weird how the cycling world is frothing over 90s MTBs at the moment, but 2000s and 2010s MTBs are throught to be trash. Open your eyes sheeple!
its junk
What's truely wrong with the frame? Why not replace the bearings?
