It's so weird how Ermac talks like they can't give Sindel or Jerrod a moment to talk for a second. If the collective can get beaten down for others to take control, surely some souls within allied to the Edenians can push back opposition and say "Alright, take the wheel!"
Exactly. That's the part that is odd given that Ermac being weakened is what allowed Jerrod control in the first place in the story. So one has to wonder what the Collection pulled besides any help from Quan Chi to lock Jerrod and Sindel deep within so to speak.
I think it is more the idea that the souls that oppose them are from before their method of ruling. Thus find them lesser and wishes not to let them lead at all.

It could also be something akin to "You two had your chance at ruling thousands and made a mess, so you will take a backseat as thousands of others with control this body fix your mistakes."
Yes, but then those opposed to the Edenians would push back and Ermac would be stuck in a stalemate. To prevent that, there'd need to be consensus.

Honestly, with the new timeline, i like the reworks to character backstories. Makes a lot of characters more relatable and way better stories than typical bad/good guys. Ermac being "good" because he's not under Quan Chi's control, Baraka and Reptile being wayyyyyyy more drawn out characters instead of simple jobbers.
Useless development that won't lead the story forward, I mean nobody cares that reptile used to play catch with his family or that baraka is sick it doesn't even play a role in the main story ...
