  • In this video, I head over to Martinsburg, WV, located along I-81 in the easternmost part of West Virginia (not far from Hagerstown, MD). Martinsburg is a city which lies within the Shenandoah Valley. In this video, I walk around the downtown area including a view of the Berkeley County Courthouse.

    I lived in Martinsburg W.V. for about 4 months in early 1977. One thing I always remember about this place is people like yelling at pedestrians from cars. A weird habit that I haven`t seen anywhere else but here.🤔

    Is the Hotel Shenandoah building still there? My late grandfather (1904-1992) was born in Hedgesville, lived in Chicago but came home to Martinsburg at retirement. I spent so much time there that I felt like it was my home. He was "Toad" Ross and he lived at 363 Boyd Ave.

      @scottman895  Před 4 lety +1

      To be honest, I am not sure. I see myself going back there at some point as I have ancestry in the Shenandoah Valley, so I always could check if I think of it!

      @Retro_Afterglow It’s not the people from the area that are the problem. It’s people from Baltimore, Dc, and other areas that bring drugs and crime to this city and that’s what makes it so bad. One of the burgs nicknames is “little Baltimore” for a reason.

    I got motion sickness watching this video. A suggestion would be to move the camera slowly around instead of whipping it back and forth...really hard to watch!

      Thank you for the comment. My camera handling back then was terrible compared to how I film newer videos. I've definitely improved on both stabilization and ensuring that I don't pan the camera too fast.

    I notice you didn't show the majority of the town, where almost everywhere else there is crime and dingy streets and apartments. OUtside downtown Martinsburg, its still a typical west virginia town. there are a LOT of hicks and bikers and construction workers and criminals that live there. There is a medium size prison there and a jail center also. There are some good things there.

      You can see the East side of Martinsburg in the distance from the center of town. It's called "Irish Hill". It has an amazing cemetery with a George Washington era Masonic crypt in the center that looks right out of Dracula. We call one of the streets there Cat Town because it has quite a few strays (all well fed). Beautiful architecture of all kinds everywhere, and every era. A big creek with bridges divide the two sections of town, called Tuscarora Creek.
