This looks like a nice town. Is there work around this area for framing carpenters? We’re considering relocating to WV for a slower pace and less violent crime.

I lived in Martinsburg for 20 years... It looked SO much better back then (because there were very few empty store fronts down-town), and the area was full of life). The way things look hasn't changed much at all, when it comes to roads and the homes, I didn't see anything that was gone that used to be there, nothing torn down. But, it's so strange I keep getting mild anxiety just watching this car go down VERY familiar streets, and seeing how nice a lot of people's yards look etc, knowing that Martinsburg is a dying town, not counting some bad memories (good ones too) that I didn't know would come flooding back watching this video. It was so different in the 90s, and I'm glad that I got my education then, compared to today. The education there is now ranked 35th in the country, it was 5th when I lived there... That makes me very sad.. I still have my school spirit though, Go Bulldogs! At least there is one remnant that shows Martinsburg used to be a bustling area, and was a suburb of D.C, and it's that cloverleaf interchange... But, I think the town started dying with my generation leaving, GenX was the group that wanted to get out, because there is absolutely NOTHING to do there when you're a teen, or a young adult and our parents were the last generation of parents to be "out of touch" so the goals they had when they were young were very much NOT our goals. It's great for little kids there, lots of daycares and activities, and it's great for the older folks because they're not looking for the same types of things teens and young adults are... If it wasn't going down the toilet, I would consider returning in my old age, but there's really nothing to return to... It's a cool place to go check out though, for all the historical areas like Boyd Manor, and several other spots, including the old railway Roundhouse... There used to be two, buuuut, in May of 1990 (I was 13-years-old) a boy I knew named Dallas and a couple of other "naughty boys" (trying to be nice, because Dallas was a kid with a good heart, we were really close, but he was a very troubled kid, abused in foster homes, so I can't say bad things about him for falling to peer pressure trying to be accepted) burned the other one down on accident because they were screwing around and lit some pallets on fire, and it got out of hand, and instead of telling anyone, they panicked and ran. With the abuse Dallas endured, even now, I can't blame him for running instead of telling an adult.

I actually feel like this video didn’t do Martinsburg justice. We’re the fastest-growing area in the state and region right now and have been for several years. Downtown is going through a huge revitalization with new businesses, apartment complexes opening up. One example: 400+ residential units and a brewery at the long-abandoned Interwoven Mills. The areas surrounding town have exploded with residential communities. I’ve lived here most of my life and I haven’t seen as many development projects and new business downtown as I see right now. People are actually walking through town to eat and shop on the weekends. I hardly ever saw that growing up here. Take a trip here sometime, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Martinsburg has a ton of momentum right now and is far from a dying town. 🙂

There are some sketchy looking areas in Martinsburg, that I would definitely avoid at night.

Some kind of narrative would be welcome. Well, at least you didn’t fill the void with cheesy fake banjo music. 🙂
