I was almost sold on that unit until I watched you climb the tree it looked really laborious I’m not sure how comfortable having all that attached to your back would be compared to just a saddle, Definitely looks comfortable once you’re up there though
I now use the Jx3 stick with top bar as my go to one stick just like you did. Prefer it over my ultimate one stick. It weighs 3lbs 14 oz with a Amstel 3 step aider. Don’t need a ring of steps with that.
Love it! John sent me photos of these sticks a couple of weeks ago. I can’t wait to get my hands on mine. I have two JX3 Hybrid saddles that are going to get a work out again this year for the third year in a row. They are the best saddle out there in my opinion
I actually took one of the steps off my three step altimator , I found it more safe and more comfortable only having two steps than three Also less shit hanging in the tree for your feet to get caught in could be because I knew to one sticking
I feel a piece of paracord attached to the stick to your belt is probably a good idea incase that step slips out of your grip while transitioning. That can make for a bad day if it falls. Maybe even a retractable gear tether.
I’ll get you the exact number tomorrow. I weighed it before but forgot what it was. It’s pretty light weight aluminum with reinforcement pillars inside the tube. I’ll try to get a detailed video out on it soon. -Danny
@@JohnSims3 hey John sorry I hadn’t got back to you. Ill be dropping a full review video this coming week. I was holding off till they became available.

What saddle do you have? If adjusted properly you shouldn’t be experiencing any of that in a good saddle. The JX3 is definitely a great and very comfortable option though!
Lol I have one. It stays in the shed. One stick is definitely not the most efficient way to climb by any means. Personally I prefer SRT and use one stick when I’m climbing a palm and or going into a spot at night and am not able to get a throw ball over a branch quietly. Believe it or not but you can one stick just about as quiet as you can climb with a climber. Not as fast tho. Thanks for watching tho! We appreciate the humor. -Danny

Please do not take next as a discouraging and Enjoy hunting. ;-) however, why do not use repel rope on the way up? it is much safer (especially at the end of the hunt). your step/platform system makes it hard (dangerous) because it catches your rope on the "wings". Also, you Need 3 rope steps with your climbing style. feel free to message me re this. I moved to FL some time ago and using as guidoWeb (ancestor of your saddle) as regular saddles (including made myself) in mobile mode. Cool demo. Crazy saddle though. I saddle hunt to pack smaller and lighter. I don't see the point in that type of saddle when you could just use a climbing stand or a hang on stand. To each their own not everyone's hunting style is the same.
It’s a lot lighter than a climber and it still gives you maneuverability of a saddle but extra comfort. It’s good for al day sits. It is definitely bulkier than your typical saddle. It has its place in the toolbox though. Thanks for watching -Mark
@@SwampNStomp My openshot weighs around 15lbs and that saddle alone is listed as weighing almost 14lbs. You would have to have less than a 1lb stick to come in at a weight less than the openshot sd. If you were to one stick climb and just hang a stand it would be lighter than the saddle alone at around 10 - 11 lbs. I have sat in my saddle all day without issues but by far the most comfortable all-day sit was in a goliath summit climber. That thing was like sitting in a recliner, but it weighted around 23lbs total. I walk through a lot of tight brush and it looks like that hybrid saddle would get caught on everything.
Tom the JX3 isn’t comparable to a saddle and or a climber or hang on it’s in it’s own league. The JX3 allows you ti sit in the skinniest of trees with the up most comfort. You have to look at us as more of a system then just a saddle or climber. The pack system meshes flawlessly with it. It’s basically a frame pack that allows you to hunt from an elevated position. -Danny
@@SwampNStomp It is definitely an interesting setup bit it seems wide and a bit bulky. I only started into saddle hunting a few years ago and have the xop platform right now and I 1 stick with helium sticks and an aider. It is light and I have found that setup works best for smaller trees. Basketball size and smaller. When I know the trees are going to be straight and limbless I go with the summit openshot sd. When I plan on hunting the same spot a few times or during gun season I will pack in a light weight hang on. For public land nothing is better than the saddle and a single stick for weight and flexibility. Never know if someone else will be in my spots.
I got my first WMA quota this year in Lake Wales Ridge Royce Unit. Obviously it depends on the land and such, are climbers and stands required or is it possible to hunt from a ground blind? I’m worried that it will be too swampy in most areas.
I like How cautious you were, almost a little scared, I would be too my first few times 😅. Is there a safety rope on your stick? I notice you totally unhooked it from the tree every time you moved it. Would kinda suck if you dropped it huh?
I’m actually very comfortable in the trees well above the hight that I was climbing for this video but I am definitely always cautious. Things can go side ways real quick. Even if you don’t fall all the way down a short fall can ruin a hunting trip. You could add a tether between your self and the stick if you’d like. I personally don’t but it’s not a bad idea. In the event that you drop the stick you could just setup ur rope and repel down or use your lineman’s belt as a second tether and work your way back down. -Danny
Just watched your older video on using the DRT method with the JX3. Is this your preferred setup now and/or did something steer you away rom DRT method?
Hey Cody honestly I only use single stick when i have to like in last minute situations. Otherwise I prefer srt and or multiple sticks when I can. I’ve not done DRT since I got all my gear for SRT. If I’m revisiting a sight I’ll setup sticks to get in quiet and not disturb the area. -Danny
If you use a little more rope, you could work with both ends of it and set anchors above each other. Eliminating the need to slide the tether up. Standing on a stick, with a lot of slack in your system and sliding it up the tree with your fingers behind it is an extremely dangerous thing to do.

I’m confused…why the hell wouldn’t you just use a climbing tree stand. The one I use is 10 lbs, $200, and works 10 times faster, 20 times easier. Hi Mike! I’ve actually hunted from a climber most of my life. Since I switched to using saddles I’ve not picked my climber back up. Saddles allow you to access spots that you wouldn’t be able to in a climber. You can get into virtually any tree that will hold your weight. Also you can go as light as 10lbs in some cases even less.
