      Best power forward on the low block ever. Nobody could guard him, that's how good Kevin McHale was.

      @Darryl Davis All the centers who tried to contain McHale really didn't and McHale had success against all the best centers of the 80s including Kareem and Hakeem. The only thing that stopped McHale were injuries.

    Kevin McHale is one of the reasons KG became so great. He taught him how to operate in the post when KG was a young player.

      Facts McHale taught KG the little nuisances of playing the PF position, thats like saying Kobe was so great bcuz he learned almost everything from MJ...I believe no great NBA player in history wouldn't have been great had it not been for the generations b4 them

    This is a great series. It was great that you were able to illustrate that there was more to him than just numbers, though his numbers were nothing to sleep on.

      Kevin McHales's numbers were great. He is the only player in NBA history to shoot over 60% FG and 80% FT. the next year he was almost 60/80 again. Oh by the way he also averaged over 20ppg both of those seasons. He shot over 55% FG for his career and actually started to hit 3pt shot's late in his career too.

    I love basketball because of McHale...saw him play on TV against the Bucks in the playoffs in '87 and thought to myself "Bird who?". From then on I've loved the Celts and b-ball. Simply amazing on both ends of the floor.

    I remember going to celtic games when I was in high school when he first came into the league. During the lay up line before the game, he had that youthful bounce and was doing 360 dunks, and just laughing about it. It was so cool.

    Kevin's fadeaway jumper was virtually unblockable. He was 6' 10" with an 8 foot wingspan!!! Two or 3 guys smothering him under the basket and he would still make his moves and get the ball in the hoop. That's why it was nicknamed Kevin's "Torture Chamber" and he played against some of the top power forwards and centers during an era when it was a very physical game.

    Unorthodox in every way! Kevin was the white Hakeem to me. His under the basket moves(up and under) was unstoppable.

      He did beginning in 1985. 80-84 he was the best sixth man in the league. 85-87 he was the best PF who ever lived.

    Oh yeah, Mchale gave Kareem the business in '84 and took Hakeem to school in '86. If he wasn't playing on a broken foot in '87, the Celtics probably would have won another chip. McHale had the best low post moves of any power forward in history and the opposing centers couldn't guard him either. Facts 💪🔥

    I agree my friend!! I was in 8th grade I my mom bought me sneakers of my choice.. I got converse Kevin's shoes came with a VHS tape of his moves in the paint I used them to perfection. Kevin was a A1 baller.

    Being able to have someone like Kevin McHale come off the bench would be gold for any team. The idea of starting is overrated...There's a huge difference between being in the game when it's tied with 48 minutes left and being in the game when it's tied with one minute left.

    I grew up in the 80s, and I saw McHale and Worthy got at it. It was a masterclass in low post play. Consummate footwork on both, one had the moves, one had the quickness. It was beautiful to watch.

    Probably the most underrated player of all time. People always seem to look at the stat sheets, and they come to the conclusion that a player like Karl Malone was better, but McHale was better than Malone on both ends of the floor. Just ask Charles Barkley.

    All the old heads know Kevin, and laud him copiously. Had he been on another team, they might have built it around him. He was a bit in the shadow of Larry Legend with the Celtics, but integrated with that perfectly and unselfishly..

      He came off the bench for the beginning of his career, then got injured at the end of his second year as a starter and was never the same. In his prime he was unstoppable.
