- Okay, fine, I'll talk about it- this British influencer just got surgery to transition into a Korean.. A non-binary Korean to be exact. Is transracial the same thing as transgender? Is it even valid? LET'S TALK.

Back in my day, we called that identity theft
Lol best comment. 👌🏻
Good joke, thanks:)
and of course it is a mistake in reasoning:

For some they are the best thing in the world and for others just plain stupid:)

But I actually think he's going for that K-Pop surgery look, not for a more realistic asian face. That's another reason why I believe he's not actually "trans-korean" but simply wants to look like his idol.

I've asked this before, but it needs to be asked again: has he become NORTH Korean or SOUTH Korean? Not that it matters from a racial perspective, but if he claims to be North Korean he may find himself in a bit of hot water if Kim Jung Un ever gets a hold of him.
He probably doesn't know there are two Koreas.
Korea is one. The Western Capitalist Imperialists divided it up. I am a big supporter of the DPRK, and I support a United Communist Korea.
@@misscute580 No, what happened was Communists in Northern Korea decided to perform a bloody coup - since, being Communists, all they know is how to destroy - & the Koreans in the South asked for US help in stopping it. Sadly, the most the US could do at the time was keep the Southern half of the country from falling to the rapacious, demented, & twisted Communists, & thus North & South Korea were born.
As for a united, Communist Korea, that is impossible for two reasons.
1.) The entire reason there is a South Korea is there are Koreans who don't want to be Communists. If there weren't, Korea would've stayed in one piece & just changed economic ideologies.
2.) Even if you could, by some miracle, get South Korea to merge with North Korea as a Communist nation, all that's going to do is make the US pull out of South Korea. And when that happens, China - a rapacious country with a failing economic system who believes all Asian countries should belong to it - will come swopping in to claim the $1 Trillion plus in natural resources Kim Jung Un is sitting on with no way of developing them. So, if North beats South, Korea dies as an independent nation.
@@misscute580 so you support North Korea and their government? You support Kim Jong Un and what his regime is doing to his people????
@@misscute580 lmao good one
this sucks because essentially they are fetishizing Korean/ East Asian culture... they're saying by changing your appearance and know how to speak Korean makes you Korean... Being Korean is so much more than appearance, languages or K-Pop. And I really find it insulting because they don't know how it feels to be Asian and face racism for being Asian. They have never fully experienced being Asian and facing the hardships that we face. They only have experienced the "good" things being Asian has to offer... and for them to call themselves Korean... smh
It's because as white people we get to consume almost any and every culture, and at least here in the states, these younger generations have found a gap in their own culture, because seriously what is an american white person's culture. We gave been used to "assimilation" with others our whole lives. The younger generation has taken it a step further by straight up attaching themselves to other people's ENTIRE cultural upbringing. Instead of just taking bits and pieces. Which is super rude and suffocating to people who actually fully represent those cultures. What this person did take cultural appropriation to a real and valid level. But if we pretend like the internet doesnt prey and placate these fools then we're just as guilty for not nipping it in the butt sooner.
This is exactly what trans has been doing to women for a long time. When never having been an actual opposite gender, and never experiencing the same things someone who was born and raised as the opposite gender, and who went through physical changes and experiences as the opposite gender would have. So since that has gotten so mainstream, in order to be "a unique and different special little snowflake" people are finding new things to appropriate, and yes, it is all offensive. 💔
it's same as being trans yet here we are
Thats is it. This whole trans racial s***t is racist AF

We need to "reclaim" the word NO. NO, not all identities are valid. etc. SERIOUSLY. The word NO is one of the first loving acts of a parent. Why are we so allergic to it? No is honesty. No is respect. Reclaim NO!
People not saying "No", has lead everyone down this dystopian rabbit-hole.
Its so scary how much the world has allowed this to go on.
because people are used to being spoiled brats which led to entitlement
Parents aren’t loving anymore. They put their children in childcare so they can further their careers without the bother of those obnoxious brats to stop them. Then out of guilt and to be done with their irritating noises, they never say no and just give them small screens to keep them out of their way when they’re chilling after work. This is the result. Yay!
No is LOVE!!!!
I feel sorry for the real Jimin. How much would it freak you out to know someone was trying to BE you.
I was arguing with a friend a few years ago, when I first learned what trans meant, especially on the topic of whether it was transphobic to use science to defend transness (like Blaire said, how there are brain differences, and how classifying gender dysphoria as a mental condition actually legitimises trans identities). He believed that transness, regardless of context, was physical biology, not psychology - so a transwoman is biologically female. I believed that sex and gender were separate - a female could identify as a man, but they were still not _biologically_ male. The argument sort of went in circles, until I said that I could identify as a guinea pig, and live my life as a guinea pig, and society could respect my wishes to be seen and treated like a guinea pig, but that didn't make me _biologically_ an _actual_ guinea pig. And he said yes it did. If you identify as a guinea pig, you are _biologically_ an _actual_ guinea pig. The statement blew me away, and really hit home how extreme the science denial is, even in such objective reality. It's on the same level as flat earthism; there is no rational discord to be had with this mindset.
But more than just the absurdity, it is genuinely dangerous to trans people. There are important biological differences between virtually any demographic, from sex, to race, to even height or bone density or freckle quantity, that impact a person's health care. There's the more obvious things, like a transwoman might still get prostate cancer or a transmen might get still get ovarian cancer, and thus need health care that targets their _sex_ and not their _gender_, but there's also medication dosages and side effects to consider, and the symptoms of diseases are different. If a transman goes to the ER with a heart attack, and tells the doctors that he is biologically male, then he will probably die because nobody will consider his female-based symptoms to be indicative of a heart attack in a man. This is what pisses me off more than anything else - that this nonsense is genuinely and very seriously harming and endangering the people they are claiming to protect.
Your profile picture is the album cover of an Outsider album, nice.
Sex and Gender aren't seperate. They are different words that mean more or less the same thing. They only recently have been started to be used differently, it was a french post modernist woman from like 60 years ago, who's name escapes me and i don't feel like looking up. Regardless, just because a man might have a more feminine gender expression, wouldn't make their gender female and sex male, they would be a male with more feminine gender expression. Gender/Sex are interchangeable and are referring to your biology.
Hey....I identify as a guinea pig 😂😂😂😂 wheek wheek.
V well said littlesabe
I like people with common sense like you, but there is no reason to claim one's sex identity is somehow defined by sex corelated differences in a human brain. You understand me, right? Those differences might result possibly in differences in personality traits, in preferences, in various abilities, but it doesn't mean there is something inate in your brain informing you of what your sex is or should be. I mean, sure, there are probably some conclusions your brain made out of observations of yourself, out of comparisons of you and other people. But I would have been shocked if there were some sex identity markers forcing you to believe you are of a certain sex. We don't have such markers on our hair color, our skin color, our height, I guess. There is no need to. All you need is sexual attraction based on feromones, some cognitive abilities to spot differences between people and to group them if it is useful to group them.

So...this guy "transitions" to a different race, and then says Korea is his culture now, and his home country now.
I don't think he understands what he's trying to do. Your culture is the one you were raised in, and your home country is where you were raised.
You can't just "identify" as being raised somewhere else. That's like "identifying" as being rich, or "identifying" as being in a relationship with your favorite celebrity.
It's okay to simply love everything about Korean culture, but you can't BECOME Korean, no matter how badly you may want to! This is just nonsense! What, is he going to "identify" as having a Korean passport? How about "identifying" as having a Korean birth certificate (or whatever documentation they have there) ?
How far are people like him going to take this? Are trans people just going to "identify" as being and having everything they want, and nothing they don't? Can sick people "identify" as being healthy, and will that actually do anything? How about "identifying" as being thin when you are actually obese? Can a felon "identify" as someone without a criminal record?
Can a paraplegic "identify " as someone who has legs...
Although I do not support the person in the video, I disagree with few of your points;
- Your culture is not the one you are raised in. If you immigrate to a new country, the government or society will attempt to integrate you into their society, and assimilate you into their society if you've been living there long enough. That means, if you immigrated and are integrated into that country's society, you can be assimilated into their culture. It is just matter of commitment and time.
- Remember that races are not only nouns, but also adjectives. If you are speaking the language of that society, if you have been living there long enough and if you actually are committed to only that society, you do have a right to call yourself that you are a member of that society. According to the South Korean government, to be a Korean citizen (see the race being an adjective there?), you need to fulfill the following requirements;
* Live in South Korea for longer than five years,
* Be able to financially support yourself without any benefits/aid from the government,
* Fluently speak Korean,
* Participate in the local community you're living in,
* Have no any criminal records.
Remember, those aren't my words, those are the South Korean government's words on becoming a Korean citizen.
Technically you can "become" Korean since is possible to gain a nationality but to do that you would have to live somewhere for five years (and there are some other things I think?) And your previous nationality wouldn't get erased so you would have two nationalities just like if your parents are from one country but you are born in a different one you get both nationalities but I understand what you are trying to say and agree with some of your arguments.

Transethnic was actually meant to refer to people adopted as babies and raised by a family of a different ethnic background. Someone dealing with actual duality between how they identify based on their culture and family ties vs how they physically appear to others.
Not someone who wants to change race cuz it sounds cool.
And mixed children raised in one culture households.

Im a gatekeeper too with the lesbian community because for some reason "anyone can be a lesbian" these days. If i had the courage you do to get on camera i would so start a channel to adress the issues in the lesbian community
Oh God. 🙄 The shit that goes on in the lesbian community almost outranks the crap that goes on in the trans community. A bunch of cringey 12 to 20-year-olds with daddy issues (not an insult just literally a fact) desperately trying to make the lesbian community into this fun little club that anyone can join except cis men and is about constantly shitting on cis men. It's literally not even a sexual orientation anymore. And them desperately trying to change the definition of lesbian to mean "non-men loving non-men" kind of falls apart when they also think that trans men identifying is lesbians or amab non-binary people identifying as lesbians is also valid. Don't get me started on the whole quirky "bi lesbian" thing. Literally just bi girls who want to be extra special. Like can we just round up all these people and get them into serious counseling and hook them all up with psychiatrists.

This is the problem of being privileged in a society where "fluid thinking" is synonymous with progressiveness and modern thinking. Your feelings are valid because they're your "truth" but the baseline is, truth isn't subjective. Truth is truth and to say otherwise is contradictory of itself. Oli is British of British decent, and shouldn't be supported to this claim that his culture and homecountry is somewhere he's never contributed to, besides mutilating his face to imitate them. Korea has a very sensitive history, inspirational nonetheless, but to be tied to a country, land, language and culture is more than skin deep. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but this is insanity. Transracialism should never be legitimised.
Since Race, not Nationality, is a made-up Social Construct not based in reality, I support Trans Race. However, I am also a big supporter of the DPRK, and I support a United Communist Korea, and I am very strongly against Western Imperialism, so I'm not sure if I support this particular person saying that they are Korean. "Mutilating his face"...lol
It's exactly BECAUSE there's these claims that it has to be legalized that these issues stems from. In my opinion, everyone can have their own opinion on what they are. I have so many "weeb" friends that it would not be surprising that they see themself as "Japanese". Doesn't bother me. Wouldn't bother me either if they want to talk about it. What bothers me is the forced idea that everybody should think the same. Barf.

If he wants to be Korean, then he could do the following:
-Move to South Korea and become a naturalised citizen
-Learn the Korean language
-Assimilate into Korean society
There’s nothing wrong with changing your nationality and assimilating into a new culture because you love that culture, but the transracial people I’ve seen don’t do this. They stay living in their countries of birth (U.S, U.K), they hold on to their citizenship, and they speak only English.
That is not changing your nationality though, that is adding a citizenship. Your nationality is only from the country you are born
@@maarselatallah6703 actually your nationality depends on the citizenship you have
I mean, Korean is an ethnicity, you can’t just “become” Korean by being knowledgeable about Korean culture and language. Just like how I’m considered Korean even though I’m an American citizen who doesn’t know that much Korean, Koreans recognize me as a Korean due to my blood. Same with Korean adoptees who have no knowledge of the Korean language and culture, for Koreans they are still considered Korean. Being Korean is in the blood. However being a Korean citizen or being knowledgeable in Korean is attainable.
Some might find in “unfair” but for many people in other countries, blood (ethnicity) is important when defining as an identity of that nation. Just as someone else here mentioned there are ethnic groups in Chile, where their identity is tied with their blood. You becoming educated in their culture and language doesn’t mean you’re accepted as being part of the people (distinction from being a citizen).
@@Laura-Yu well of course you can't change your ethnicity. But you can do it with your nationality. So if he had the korean citizenship he could also say that he's korean
@@maarselatallah6703 nationality can be place of birth or where you live.
"No one would do this for attention."
The fact that this is said, unprompted, within the first few minutes says a lot.
You can love a culture/country without changing your race/nationality
We seriously need to make a group of old school LGBT beliefs. Back when it actually had realistic goals and was a group of people worth fighting for.
It's honestly turned so...embarrassing? Like I'm a non binary bisexual, and like for people to just..take it to a whole different level really irritates me..
You guys are my peeps🥰🥰
@@ashesdead no offense, but "non-binary bisexual"? Makes absolutely no sense.
UnironicallyDel they’re non-binary and they like both genders. it’s not that complicated
UnironicallyDel gender and sexuality are different
Are people ever going to get tired of having their entire "identity" worn on their sleeves for everyone to see at all times? It's so boring to be able to tell everything about someone by how they look.
Remember when meeting new people was a fun mystery? What about when your friend wanted you to meet this cool person they knew and you couldn't just kill all the hype by looking them up on social media? The internet is a double-edged sword and social media is the serrated end.
I dont remember indentifying as anything back in the day. Maybe as a hip hop head but that was hobby-related. I never identified with anything immutable. I identified being from the town where I was from. I didnt even identify as my race despite being a minority within a minority. I was aware of it in that environment but I didnt wear it like a badge like these Tumblrites.
Cant we just go back to saying what our hobbies are. Oli likes Kppp and Jimin....and plastic surgery. He shoudnt need to reidentify himself.
and then they say they're not attention seeking. well that's great because i would go out of my way to avoid these people.
Remember when people didn't broadcast their entire life to strangers? When most people wanted to keep private things private.
Man the internet has fucked that up. Screw you social media and everyones over sharing!!!
Seriously.
There is also a Filipino man that made himself look like super man
Such great analysis, particularly around the hypocrisy of those who believe race is a construct denying transracial people. And your comment about gatekeeping - I.e. we use gatekeeping for people who fly planes - is intelligent analysis and just good common sense! It’s refreshing to hear. Thank you.
Aww, I wanna transition to being a billionaire. That's it. I'm a billionaire! Is my yacht ready?

@Jane B Robbins Because he's clearly not right in the head?
@Jane B Robbins He's videoing himself and posting it isn't he. And all his message amounts to is: I'm trans-racial, look at me
@Jane B Robbins I'll politely agree to disagree.
@Jane B Robbins a lot of people put their bodies through more than what he has for a spec of attention. look at most people who've had plastic surgery; they did it because they thought they'd look better to the public. most breast implants are done purely out of narcissistic means. you're seriously sitting there, asking who would do this for attention?
This was surprisingly well thought out for such a bizarre issue
Been waiting for your commentary 😂
I’ve been trans rich for years! I’m still waiting for my billions and million dollar business, house, car and vacation home in Europe and island
I just wonder, if he would have realised he was Korean a 100 years ago. When there was no kpop, perhaps even not so much Korean visibility in the media of then.
It would have been as odd as somebody being obsessed with a country such as, say, Myanmar nowadays. They always pick the cool Asian countries like Korea and Japan
I know who you are... hail Sithis.
Also notice that he says "to all those who identify as Korean or Japanese" indicating that trans-racial individuals would want to join large powerful groups with global soft power, but not Trans-Chinese or Trans-Vietnamese. While many in South Korea, China, and Vietnam would be "Trans-American" doing plastic surgery to look more American while not identifying as such because of the global cultural dominance of those U.S.A. and their beauty standards.

Well, luckily, Koreans are not as whiny as the irresponsible and homophobic people like you, and all men under the LGBT umbrella are still forced to join the military (and he still identifies as a man).
Instead of searching loopholes about a country you have no idea about and throw dirt on non-binary folk of a foreign country you don't live in, you should do your research a bit. South Korean laws do not care if a person is LGBT or not; that person still has to join the military.
