      The thing that makes all the pronoun thing silly and just plain obnoxious is, nobody speaks to another using pronouns directed towards them. Unless of course that person is going to hold a conversation in the 3rd person, which I'm not going to entertain. But what you call someone directly is called a Salutation, not a pronoun. Mr., Mrs, Ms, Sir, Ma'am, etc, etc are Salutations. So they don't even make any sense with this pronoun nonsense. i feel you! i dont think people should be shackled because of my experience, but it should be okay to go through phases or to feel differently about yourself or your gender expression without tacking on a label. if youre really an enby, i will not question if your identity is or isnt valid- thats not my business, but i really dont doubt that some people feel discomfort with gender roles and therefore give themselves labels that simply arent for them. these feelings of discomfort *are* valid without the label, and way too many people feel like giving themselves these titles are what validates them. it should be normalised and encouraged to question yourself and then come out realising youre just different- automatically assuming androgyny makes you trans doesnt just hurt confused cissies but also hurts trans people who dont *want* to present as typically fem or masc.
      peoples perception of you can really shape your identity. i personally go by masc names to avoid people perceiving me as female, and if i continue to feel that way or not, i dont care. its what makes me comfortable, im still a female, but im not trans. you can have phases, your feelings and your experiences are still valid.

    • @rebeccapassaro4197
      @rebeccapassaro4197 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Typically yes violence is considered physical mostly though. Like intentionally misgendering someone that wouldn't be violent per se unless they were commiting other acts with that. It could be considered a hate crime or bullying in a sense if someone's doing that intentionally to you but violence I'm not sure about that because it does hurt but it does not put you in immediate threat of danger physically. Someone can be homophobic without being violent. They can be emotionally abusive without being violent. If they are homophobic or transphobic or something of that nature and they're not tolerant and because of that they commit a physical act of hate on you that would be violence and that would be a hate crime as well. It hurts not to be accepted or to have someone blatantly disregard who you are but those people don't mean much and they're probably not meant to be in your lives anyway I wouldn't consider that violent I would consider that an a****** who you don't need in your life. You're not going to be accepted by everybody and that goes for anyone not just people who are trans or gay (I'm a lesbian My family doesn't accept it They say s***** things and don't accept me but theyre not violent with me) I've also dated a trans who understands this And that person has given me a lot of perspective on the struggles that happen for them while at the same time realizing hey not everyone accepts me and they don't take it to heart. I've been in the room where people have intentionally misgendered my ex. They weren't being violent with her but they were being complete and total f****** assholes I was very upset and my ex had to let me know like they don't matter and Not everyone will accept you and that's fine

The idea of only being trans’gender’ means and tells people they only need to change their behaviour roles. If it was only having to change behaviour that would be a cake walk. But the change is physical and that is why I love the use of transsexual. If you are not changing sexually ...not to be rude but get off the stage. I am also intersexed and so for me I loath non-bindery they do not have a clue what it means to be in the middle. They treat it like a candy land, it is not.

    My problem with the non-binary movement is at times the hatred towards identifying as a gender. I was born a woman, I love my body, and I am happy with myself. I have a right to express my feminism, and my activism for women. Let’s not forget that women just gained equal rights 100 YEARS AGO. And of course, trans people are still fighting for their rights. I think that people need to chill the fuck out and let people speak their minds, be human, make mistakes, and have the sovereignty over their own identity. This whole thing is just overcomplicated. While I respect people wanting to be called certain pronouns, there is a biological reality that remains underneath all of the mental gymnastics. I respect you for standing up for yourself, Blaire! And you are right- we should be fighting the evil in the world together, not fighting each other for accidentally misgendering someone. There are much bigger problems in the world, in my opinion

    My problem is that I’ve never heard a definition of non-binary that doesn’t reference gender roles or stereotypes. To me this appears to be why NB only occurs in one segment of the left political spectrum that sees gender as performative or a purely sociological phenomenon rather than the neurological reality it’s been demonstrated to be. You can find every identity in every location on the political spectrum except NB. You can however find gender non-conforming everywhere.

When you do something to a child that they don't like, say...take away their toys when they are misbehaving, they have temper tantrums. An emotional response. So I would say "childish" is the right word. We seem to have forgotten the old school teaching to learn to control our emotions so that they don't control us. I’m coming at this as a regular viewer of Blaires CZcams. My partner is non binary and experiences gender dysphoria. For sure, at the end of the day they won’t have the same struggles as a trans man or woman. They’re getting top surgery (breast removal) and have been diagnosed to have gender dysphoria. A few years ago I had been BEGGING them to let me do their makeup, since they never wear any. When they looked in the mirror, they started having a panic attack and couldn’t stop crying, begging me to take it off and that’s when we started talking about non-binary. We’ve also agreed that I’ll always do my best to not touch their breasts (sorry tmi) because it reminds them that they have breasts and makes them super uncomfortable and upset. We’ve had lots of long talks about their gender and gender dysphoria, we’ve talked about whether they could be male, but they said that having masculine features would also give them dysphoria. If it were possible, they said they wished they could just be like a gender less Barbie doll, I picture their gender like kind of being a game of tug of war, male vs female and they’re the rope.I think lots of people are coming out as non-binary as an “aesthetic” and things like that which is such a piss off, I do believe you need to have gender dysphoria to be trans or non-binary. But yeah, I’ve witnessed their dysphoria for the past three years, non-binary dysphoria is very much real and I just wrote this to give people a good understanding to non binary gender dysphoria it’s truly heart breaking to see anyone experience it and even more so when it’s someone I love. I apparently am "non-binary" though I really don't feel like I want to use this label, precisely because of how the community acts. Neither do I insist on "they/them" pronouns, I don't use them, actually. I have learned to just take a chill pill and not expect people to understand how complicated it is in my brain, I myself can't explain it properly, how can I expect then understanding from others? I have never felt hate from Blaire, Blaire is just fact-oriented and I so respect her for that. Do I experience some light forms of dysphoria? Yes. But would I compare it with what Blaire has went through? No. My experience I love to describe as "you look at your face in the mirror (femboy face in my case) - sexy! You look at your body without your head in the frame of the mirror (it's really feminine... in my case) - well, sexy! I am attracted to girls! But you look at the combo and you are all like ew, what is this weird creature, lmao".
    I am fully aware however, that despite this, I am no trans man and my experience is very different. I don't "hate" my body, I just really don't feel like it is mine, the way I look at it, this is a pretty body that I much prefer seeing on women, rather than on me. I am uncomfortable at times, but it is what it is - at the end of the day, just like Blaire said - it's important how I feel inside, and if you don't get it, well, what can you do. As you can see, it is very, very different from trans.
    I am so sorry to everyone who feels pushed by some non-binary agenda caused by our own inadequacy to accept that we're just... weird. An experience of both genders at the same time, one at a time, none at a time, it's all overflowing. It's actually much more of a spiritual experience to me, ying and yang, than it is biological. It is completely possible to live with it and not feel butt-hurt about it every fucking second, lol.

A four leaf clover is uncommon and abnormal, but it is definitely still natural. It genetically develops differently than a regular clover, but you would not say that it "is actually not supposed to happen". A four leaf clover is considered special and even lucky, but it is also a genetic defect, technically speaking. I know that you were speaking from a good place in your heart, but I think we should be careful not to say that the way that a trans person developed is "unnatural" or "not supposed to happen".

My female cousins and neighbors were already in their teens. So I think you adapt to your environment to "fit in". I remember one time when I was about 11, my bro and I were watching a talk show about Trans people, (I'm not sure if they used that expression then) and I said "hey, maybe that's me. I could change into a man". My brother came over grabbed and pull me off the couch by my shirt and threatened to "beat my @ss and disown me" if I was that kind of "freak". And then he dropped me back on the couch after I apologized. My brother was a very abusive person toward me my entire youth. The thing is, I wasn't trans, I was never trans...I was just a female who had masculine traits and opinions because of my environment. But before I do that I want to go to a gender therapist to make sure that’s what I really want. I’m not just going to go and get a permanent surgery without doctors approval. With pronouns people shouldn’t have to go around the room and state them as a collective group. That totally invalidates trans women and men. I hate neopronouns. I feel like it’s just a kink thing or a trait people use to describe their style. I’ve genuinely seen people use pronouns such as rot. Like I’m not calling you that. It’s not a gender identity. I’m glad that you are brave enough to stand up to non binary people who feel the need to bully others into stepping down about things that just end up hurting other trans people

My severe chronic pain makes it to where I have no idea what it would feel like to go an entire day and not feel excruciating pain, thank you Ehlers-Danlos. I have nightmares where I can't walk anymore, I try to put one foot in front of the other, but my legs just collapse under me, and I wake up in a cold sweat. I’m autistic, and I’ve seen so many people in the autistic community saying “we don’t need cures for autism! It is apart of us!” And then getting angry at neurotypical people and society for not being fully accommodating to them when - and I may offend someone here - it is a burden. Having a disability doesn’t make someone any less of a person, and they deserve the same amount of rights as non-disabled people. However it is harder to accommodate for them in many ways, so I don’t see why it’s so out of the question to find cures for those disabilities if it makes our lives easier.
      The reality is that many autistic people complain so much about their disability and how their life is so much harder with it (having sensory issues, meltdowns, being unable to understand social cues etc.) but then get angry when people try to find a cure for it. Maybe I do sound ignorant, but this is from my own experience. Is it so hard to accept someone with a disability and support them *while* simultaneously trying to find permanent solutions to lessen their hardships with it? Why can’t those with demanding needs and less mobility get the same opportunities and life experiences that non-disabled people have? Because we want to preserve the feelings of those who can *mostly* live life normally?
      Of course this is not just tied with autism. I’m just talking about that disability specifically because I have personal experiences of facing hardship with it.

      @@justausername5749 I think it is because we have bad experiences with some therapies that try to make us seem less autistic. It is true that are things about being autistic that are really shitty but when people have told us most of our life that we’re broken or that there’s this terrible thing in us, it came a point when we get tired of hearing that. We just wanna be able to embrace who we are and not be reminded every five second how wrong is everything that we do and everything that we are. Like sensory issues are terrible but stuff like special interests actually makes us happy and we don’t wanna lose that. And if people think that it is weird, that’s sad but it is nice to be passionate about a topic. I would like to eliminate some autistic traits but no all of them. At the end being autistic it is a big part of who we are. If they just remove all of it, I think I would end up being a whole different person (and I like the person that I am right now)

Every procedure requiring Anesthesia is dangerous, surgery of any kind should always be last resort. General Anesthesia "knocks you out" completely, the patient, ie, you, have a ventilator breathing for you during your surgery. You are literally on life support while your operation is underway. There is ALWAYS the risk of using too much medicine during General Anesthesia and the patient doesn't "wake up," regain consciousness, resume breathing on their own. This is a risk EVERY procedure with General, be it heart surgery, phalloplasty, appendectomy, kidney removal, any time you are knocked out, you risk not coming back.

Nobody is telling you (in this instance) that you being sad from time to time isn't valid, it's just a different thing, and most people wouldn't be fussed at having that pointed out, so I'm not sure why it can be so controversial when it comes to this subject regarding nonbinary, and this subject alone.

I've heard nonbinary people say being trans is a choice too...I feel like majority of them really miss the mark, I think nonbinary is a different disorder.

      There are a lot of medical professionals who are concerned about where things are going with gender and sexual identities, out of genuine concern for their patients/clients. GP's, psychologists, surgeons want the best for their patients but they now feel that if they question their patients, or speak out about their concerns, that they will be sued and lose their licence to practice. Practicing from a non-evidence based perspective puts patients at risk, yet that is what they are basically being pushed to do.

    The mention of ''Cure'' got me the most. As a Transwoman, I always try to explain people that this is not a glorious thing nor that I wish to be like this, it is just I can't help it. I'm in a constant battle with my dysphoria so I had to go through all that trouble to find myself which is initially not needed for the most. I had breast implants, HRT just to feel a bit more comfortable in my own skin. It really is difficult to explain especially if the person you are talking to is not suffering from it, gender dysphoria is not as common as you think. Just like you said, I had all these emotions when I was I child, nothing has changed for me until I start understanding the concept of gender and the perception of the society '' Why am I like this, why I was born as Trans? '' I would've loved to have the internal/external harmony like most cis people has. I'm not saying this to disrespect anyone's personal experience since we all face hardships but I live in Middle East and all I can say is that my condition has caused more harm than good for me. I can't help but wonder how my life would be without dysphoria.

    For me, nonbinary doesn't make sense because I feel it reinforces gender stereotypes. If feel masculine, you're a man, and feminine, you're a woman, and if you don't fully fit into those categories you must be somewhere in between? If someone can explain it better, I'd listen, but so far it feels very sexist to me.

    • @sketch_9458
      @sketch_9458 Před 3 lety +3

      I think I understand what you mean, but at the same time there are people who feel neither masculine nor feminine, or both at the same time, etc. and they aren't trying to enforce gender stereotypes, at all; they're just finding an alternative that makes them feel good about themselves, and I see nothing wrong with that. Just like a woman can be masculine and a man feminine, the same goes for non-binary people.
      Gender is a spectrum, which is not necessarily related to how a person looks, acts, etc., and the existence of enby people does not deny it, if anything it does the opposite. My point is, non-binary is a gender, not a way of dressing or looking. So, the existence of enby people doesn't change anything. Also, I doubt you'll meet an enby person who tells you that if you look a certain way then your gender must be the one that is usually associated with that look (and if you do, I'm sorry, but I'm sure you'll meet better people). Enby people are not trying to force anything onto others, they're just doing their own thing, being who they are, finding a way to feel comfortable with themselves, and we should respect that. Thanks, have a nice day/night.

      @@sketch_9458 Thank you for trying to explain. I think my greatest confusion when it comes to the nonbinary discussion is that I view gender in the same way that I view species or race, as a binary physical feature rather than a spectrum. Because of that, it doesn't make sense for people to identify with a gender other than their own unless they suffer from gender dysphoria. Whereas masculinity and femininity are a spectrum, gender in my mind is directly related to biological sex (with atypical exceptions, such as intersex and trans individuals). Maybe that core belief is the reason it doesn't make sense to me? I hope I've explained myself a bit better than I did in my original comment.

      @@sydneylyman8778 Ah, I see! I understand what you're saying. I do have those kind of thoughts myself at times, but as someone who does not have dysphoria and feels somewhat comfortable with all pronouns (although I do have a preference), I am not qualified to explain the reason why gender matters so much and is such an important part of society. But in the end, I guess that I just want people to be happy with themselves, and if using neutral pronouns makes them happy, then they should do that.
      I see gender as a spectrum because from my experience it seems like the most logical way to represent it, especially since, in the end, everyone views it in a different way, everyone feels a little bit different. I just think that by viewing it as a spectrum, it's easier to understand how others feel about their own gender.
      I guess that in a perfect world, gender wouldn't exist and sex wouldn't matter-
      But since sex does matter, the existence of gender is necessary to the people who are in contrast with their sex.
      I think that's all- this is just my way of seeing things, though ^^ I understand that everyone sees them differently, and I accept it, as long as they're respectful- that's all I care about. Thank you for being polite :)

      asking pronouns isnt about how someone looks. sort of like how you cant always tell if someone is gay. they don't owe you an outward appearance of how you think non binary should look. thats why to simply be inclusive, asking pronouns is polite no matter what. if people are upset about the inclusion, it says a lot about them.

It’s just natural for most people to assume. Humans like many other animals, are hardwired to live by patterns. Most people with big boobs in a bikini are she/her women. Most people with facial hair and huge muscles are he/him men. That’s why I think it’s okay to assume. It’s natural. Ofc don’t be a dick if you assumed wrong and try to go against what you initially thought and change the pronoun, but there’s a reason people do it. Also, many trans ppl feel happy when others assume the correct gender. It can feel as if they “nailed” their transition and might even be more offended if you asked. In fact, I think many cis people would feel offended if you asked, like “you couldn’t tell?”

      @@leel2792 Right, so see how the language you are using is "most" and "assume". thats basically the point right there. I think some people are thinking: wouldn't it be easier if we skipped the whole assumption game because there could very well be many people whose genders don't "match" their outward appearance. It erases misgendering completely. It would also benefit pre transition binary trans people and give them the opportunity to tell people how they want to be viewed instead of having to correct them. I think if we all understood that asking pronouns isn't about clocking someone as one gender or the other but rather as a courtesy to every person with every identity than maybe theyd be less hurt by it. Its not about them. it just isnt. The second they give their pronouns its a non issue. If you really care so much about making sure other people know youre cis too, or binary trans too... then just say it.
