0:00 Intro
0:05 The customer drove the vehicle away. No extra info.
0:23 The customer paid to get a new fuel tank installed and have the exhaust properly re-routed and installed by the shop.
0:36 2WD Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Not the best option to lift the front end of a truck. A leveling puck/spacer on top of the strut would have been a better fit.
0:44 The fuel line you see disconnected was disconnected by the tech, as he was about to take it apart. The customer never installed the o-ring for the fuel pump, even though he had one. The technician cleaned up the mess of silicone, replaced the fuel line, and installed the o-ring for the fuel pump as per the customer's request.
1:00 The technician said it was a VW (does not remember the model).
The customer's insurance company paid to get new fuel lines and a fuel filter installed.
1:12 What you see are rubber hoses used for brake lines, not fuel lines (the technician verified they weren't fuel lines).
The technician said he thinks it was a fish tank hose that was used as brake lines. Since rubber hoses were used as brake lines, it caused air to enter the brake system causing the no brake concern that the customer had. This can be very dangerous and should never be done.
1:27 The customer had booster cables going to the battery, and to the power inverter that went to the microwave in the back. The technician said he's never seen anything like this before.
1:40 Blower motor and wiring were fixed. This could have ended badly!
1:54 The technician said he's not sure how nobody realized this, as the passenger tire is almost 2 inches taller. Something he has never seen before. Good thing they realized quickly as this could have caused damage to the front differential.
2:09 Hole in manual transmission. Had to get replaced.
2:17 Transmission had to get replaced.
2:28 The customer had duct taped a "shield" underneath their vehicle all around to try and stop it from rattling. It still rattled but the technician resecured it for the customer.
2:38 2013 Volvo (did not mention the model). The customer approved the repairs.
2:51 A great tip that shared with us. Thought it was helpful so I wanted to share.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to mount it on the dashboard so it would be more accessible? Facing the tailgate like that it can't even be used by passengers in the rear seats.
It *was* a thing to have a lunch container in your engine compartment in the 1960s - 1980s just to heat your food, but I'm not sure how common it was. Attach it inside your engine securely so heat can transfer through the metal lunch container without coming in contact with exhaust, dirt, or oil, then put your cold Philly Steak Sandwich in, get it out in maybe 30 - 35 minutes.
This still is a bit of a thing, but I guess it's more of a rarity these days, with engine compartments being so much tighter.
The guy that melted his fuel tank with his exhaust was driving a time bomb
Ya that one could have been bad lol
I was about to post something like that. How did that not catch fire at least once?
Yes, and it was behind the steering wheel. Explosive idiocy...
What could've happened would've blown him away...
My mind didn't even go there, I was still stuck on who would be so stupid as to put an exhaust next to plastic, let alone a fuel tank that WILL melt. Hod do they even know how to operate a welder. /facepalm
That exhaust pipe against the fuel tank almost won that person the Darwin Award. Just craziness.

Wow, just stunning to see these rolling disasters on the road. I find it a crying shame, one saves up hard-earned money, and gets ripped off at a used car dealer.
That is not what was said. It may have been a private sale. Does that make the seller a dealer?
@@sheldoncurtis2908 Agreed.
Or saving up hard-earned money and then skimping on basic maintenance for years.
@@sheldoncurtis2908 Itâs also just as likely the seller was also clueless about cars and they got ripped off by a sleazy mechanic, and turned around and sold the thing without ever knowing what was wrong with it. But I canât imagine the brakes ever worked right in that condition, so itâs at least partly also on the buyer for either buying a vehicle with terrible brakes, or not even trying them first. This isnât even something only a mechanic could notice, all you had to do was try to stop the car!

@@khalidacosta7133 I have, mainly vehicle owners attempts at repair, but the most worrying is when it comes from another garage, the worst was a clutch replacement where the gearbox, prop and centre bearing werenât tightened up properly
Seen rubber brake pipes, but that was on a bicycle, there to protect the cables as they went across the front pivot.
Every time I get annoyed with the strict safety rules and inspections here in Switzerland I watch one episode of this and I'm happy that almost none of this is going on here and I don't have to share the road with cars like that.
I'd like to see all 50 States restore their auto inspection stations as they were many decades ago. A State might not be able to open all the inspection stations needed but, I'd allow private garages to do the inspection BUT, they cannot be the shop that does the repairs. That will prevent conflict of interest.
When I was a kid, living in Florida, I remember all the inspection stations in my area were run by the State. They could do basic stuff like put air in your tires and align the headlights for you. More than that would require you to go to a shop to get those items fixed; before you could get your window sticker.
@@BlackPill-pu4vi Instead of that lets make it harder for people to get a license to drive in the first place.
Alot of people are unable to even drive and thats worse then something falling apart going down the road. You do that and bam accidents go down and at the same takes alot of women off the road. Just a win win for everyone
@@BlackPill-pu4vi here in the UK most garages can do mot's and most of them will do the work as well. You get the odd garage true and rip you off but it works. My local has done mine for a few years now.

As a collision tech who has walked every inch of four hundred miles of weatherstripping with an easy pry to make sure it's installed properly, I am absolutely amazed at that drill tip.

That's a neat trick to get the weather seal installed properly. Definitely one of the many reasons why 10mm sockets went missing.....
I don't know, it's not even half as good as the structural spray foam tip - that one's the keeper from this video
That's why you gotta use the 9mm
â@@sdfxcvblank5756if you're a middle of the road kind of mechanic, use the â " one. đ
Everyone knows the amazing structural properties of spray foam!
It boggles my mind that people even consider it as any kind of automotive repair.
only if you spray the surface with WD-40âą generously before. đđ
Yeah, I mean you have the regular stuff, the high expansion and low expansion varieties. Then there is the lesser known high rigidity foam for auto and plane repair.
@@kittytrail WD-40?? Amateur! You MUST you Flex Seal Paste and Tape for a strong repair!
@@markh.6687 pretty hard where i am to try to get some floppy seal paste from the orcas mouth you know, so WD-40âą it is! đđ
It's amazing how much faith some people have in tape, zip ties, and spray foam
I am amazed at how little people understand of the forces involved in their vehicle, such that they think spray foam is going to hold parts under heavy load together. I mean "Ye canna change de laws of Physics, Jim!"
Now zip-ties (cable ties) are another story for low-load items, especially to hold things (relatively) together until you get the right counter-clockwise threaded #4 Doohicky-headed custom fastener holding bumper trim/fascia on a vehicle, or things like that. Even CSW has 'stitched' some body trim parts together with ties.
That guy with the cool trick of the drill and socket to fix weatherstrip made sure to mention using a 7mm or such as if you use a 10mm, the car will eat it. :)
He probably didn't have a 10mm to do it with đ
He probably didn't have a 10mm. Hell, I've encountered more unicorns and leprechauns in the shop than I have 10mm sockets....and the shop is full of Japanese motocross bikes!đ€Ł
I'm sure 1/4" will do nicely!
Nobody uses the 7mm anymore, unless you're taking apart the dash of an 80s GM. đ I knew the pain of losing the 7mm all the time before the pain of losing the 10mm all the time.
Even a bamboo stick still works fine, less scratch.
They should market Spray Foam as the universal fixit product for cars and trucks.
The funniest 'foam in a car' story for me was when friends who drove a Volvo were rear-ended. The bumper had to be replaced but it would take a few weeks to get one in stock so they drove it without the bumper. However, underneath the plastic bumper was a fitted block of styrofoam that filled the space and was part of the sacrificial buffering. When my friend's wife saw it she was mortified. "We bought a top shelf car and it's made of Esky foam!" she complained. Here in Australia an Esky is a foam beer / picnic cooler. It was the perfect take-down. đ
Never know when you need a Hot Pocket or something to eat. Gotta admire the ingenuity!
đ true enough
The guys at Donut Media just did a video were they tested a mini-oven meant to work with the cigarette lighter. I think it was from the 1950's or something. They cooked fish.
I bet when the hot pocket is done the driver will stop immediately to eat it no matter if its rush hour traffic or not. I bet if this was an rv the driver would rig up bungee cords to steer while eating his snack.
It's always fun when a customer brings you a fire hazard.
I had to do that, with a punctured fuel filter on a frame rail mount, and I couldn't see it was the filter; I thought it was one of the connectors (which I also didn't have the little tools for to release the line clips anyway). So to the shop it went leaking fuel. But I told them and showed it to them when I got there so they could exercise safety precautions.
.
Had a muffler/brake place I used years ago get caught on fire (not my car fortunately) when they found a car fuel tank leak the hard way with a lighted oxy-acet torch, bailed out of the building, and let the fire department handle it. Car owner claimed he had no idea his fuel tank was leaking. Shop reopened a few months later with customers lined up; shop was VERY careful about any cars they even suspected had fuel leaks, and turned down some work outright.
that exhaust flat against the fuel tank is natural selection at its finest

Hot tip, always get the car checked at a mechanic's shop YOU CAN TRUST before buying a used car.
So not only should you know if there is anything wrong with it before buying, but also you can trust the mechanic to actually check it all over and not miss anything
Some legit dealers won't allow off-lot inspections, but you can find mobile vehicle inspection services (or your local mechanic if you can pry them out of the shop).
