- On this edition of Curator's Corner, John Popp sits down with the NRA National Firearms Museum's Senior Curator Phil Schreier to examine the Spencer Arms Slide Action Repeating Shotgun. The Spencer Repeating Shotgun, invented back in 1882 by Christopher Spencer, is a standard pump action shotgun. The look and operation is basically the same as any other pump action. The difference comes in the pump... Tune in to find out why!
To find more than 10,000 zoomable images of the 3,000 firearms at the museum at the NFM's website, www.NRAmuseum.com. www.NRAnews.com. (Originally aired on Sportsman Channel Cam & Co. 4/15/13).
Gamers watching this might recognize the Spencer 1882 as the _BioShock_ series pump shotgun. The only thing they got wrong was moving the ejection port to the side.
then come the hunt: showdown
In 1892 the sole repeating shotgun being used by the Provost Guard at Ft. Leavenworth were
Spencer repeating shotguns which supported some 90 Parker and English double barreled shotguns. In 1893 bannerman said that 6,000 were in use of the prison guard type.
God bless the NFM! I hope they keep every piece of gun in history in there!
Let's see better photos and video of how that action works
I've had the pleasure of meeting Phil Schreier, a great guy and he loves the old stuff!
He deserves our respect because is the last casualty of the Spanish American War and has the scar to prove it! :-)
Anyone know how many Spencer made, and how many Bannerman made?
