Does federated learning have the power to drive financial services forward? We think so.
While traditional machine learning techniques train models using a central database, federated learning takes things one step further. It allows us to train algorithms using data sets that are held separately by multiple financial institutions, without the need for them to exchange data with one another. This means that, for the first time, institutions can collaborate, combine forces and leverage AI to help solve industry-wide problems - like improving fraud detection or reducing payment errors - all safe in the knowledge that their customer data remains wholly anonymous, secure and confidential.
Watch the discussion by Swift’s Nick Kerigan, Managing Director, Head of Innovation and IBM’s AI expert, Heiko Ludwig, on federated learning to find out how it can solve everyday issues in financial services like improving fraud detection and reducing payment errors.
