- In this episode of Long Automotive, we take a look at another one of my long term projects, my 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI. I bought this car dirt cheap and turned it around into a great little ripper. Take a ride with me and see what makes this GTI special.

Love it! I had a Mk2 Golf with a 2.0 ABF 16V motor, with Weber carbs. It sounded wicked and it was a stripped and caged track car. So it went well.
I had a 1984 as well, I bought in California back in 1988, the car has low mileage and kept for almost 4 years but I've missed that car all these years that I'm thinking of getting another one, it was a black body blue interior with gold bbs wheels. Great car and I'm looking again
Thanks! They’re out there!
I also have a 16v swaped mk1 gti. My is an '80, with the 2.016v ABF from the mk3 gti, completely stripped of all the elecronics. I mounted a scirocco 16v intake and used the original kjet for fuel and a KR ignition. Mk1 with 16v are great.
Great vid !!!
Thank you!
Such a cool little car. I wonder if some oil for the roof would’ve done it well.
Man I bought the stuff to do it too, never did
@@longautomotive That stuff will look good on a Ghia too...
Weren’t you selling the Golf to fund another build?
I did sell it yes, to build up my 242, and to make room for the future 😀
@@longautomotive you can only drive one at a time and sometimes you have move one on for the greater good. Awesome content as ever 👍🏻
Thank you!
@@longautomotive out of curiosity, did you have the carbs set up and jetted on a dyno. Or did you do it all just using the wide-band?
I’m really considering going down the 16v bike carb route myself.
