Finding & Fixing Tint and Temp Casts | 4 Sliders to Correct Color Balance in any Photograph

  • I've seen image after image recently with color balance issues so I wanted to just address this today in a quick video demonstrating a super-easy way to find, fix and correct color balance in Photoshop, Lightroom or any other editing program. The prerequisite for this working is that you know what the colours SHOULD be. If you know what should be there, you can remove the colours that shouldn't be!
    Using 4 sliders together, we can correct imbalance issues and fine-tune at the end to get the perfect output to start your editing on. when editing photographs, correcting white balance should be done right at the very start, not right at the very end. Remember that!
    There is a blog on this topic that outlines the steps one by one if you prefer to learn that way:

    Skin tones are something I REALLY struggle with. What a great tip. I have never thought about the upping the vibrance and trying it out that way. Thanks again for another very educational video!

    Oh, this is going to be so helpful! I've never heard anyone suggest that we increase our vibrance and saturation so that we can check our white balance and see what's going on in the blacks, grays, and browns. This is way cool!

    You just blew my mind! After 8 years of photography and watching probably thousands of videos, including plenty of paid courses, this is the first time I've come across this little trick. White balance is my nemesis!! I went straight to Lightroom to try it on a bunch of new and old photos, and WOW. It worked amazingly on most, but I did have trouble with a few. I'd love to see you demonstrate some more examples using skin tones specifically.

    Brilliant video! This is something I was trying to improve on this morning and along comes this video perfectly explaining it. I mostly do wildlife photography but after getting nagged by friends and family to photograph their dogs, cats, and horses I found this channel a couple months ago, and it's made my work twice as good as it was before. Your videos are so clearly explained it's been incredibly helpful, really I can't thank you enough.

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  Před 2 lety

      Thank you so much for the great feedback 🙏 Everything with photography is usually a case by case basis, but most of the time I balance to the light hitting the top of the subject to neutralise that 😊

  • @daemon1143
    @daemon1143 Před 3 lety

    Not too sure about this one. Using this method you can also take away the gold from golden hour, the blue from blue hour and the weird green glow from under a storm cloud. Some colour casts are meant to be there, and white isn't always meant to look white, otherwise you might as well just hit the autobland button. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding the intent. Other than that, good method if you don't know where your white balance is at.

    • @ThatPhotographySpot

      It’s often the brightest and most saturated area of an image, so it fights constantly with the intended subject. That’s probably why 😊
