    I skate AS3 Pros and 100ks...they are almost identical in profile. You can play any style in any of these...It's 100% fit and feel. Everything else is just marketing. I don't find AS3 Pros to be remotely "clunky."" They are stiffer with less padding (still comfortable)...that's it, and as far as the tongue being too big or stiff...swappable. Not trying to sell anyone, but it would be a shame if someone saw this and wrote off trying them because of those comments. I also skate in 2xPros...also great, but nothing fits my feet like CCM "regular". Why so many skates? Well...been playing for six decades now and have 2 artificial hips. I'm playing or coaching 5-7 days a week,and rotating skates and flex profiles helps me do that. If it matters...my game is agility and power about equally split. I'm 5'9" 165 lbs. That's my take...FWIW.

      Same. I'm skating the AS3 PROs and find them extremely comfortable and weight wise, there's really not much difference between the other models in the comparison. It's a stiff skate, I'll defintely second that, but it also depends on your weight (I'm 95 - 100 kg ~ 210 - 220 pounds) and find that most players in the AS3 PROs are of similar weight. I'm going to try out the new models tho'.

      @@andersborum9267 Just found your comment and was looking at the 100k pro's or the new AS-V Pro's. I've been turned off by so many people who say the AS3 Pro / AS-V' Pro's are too stiff, but I keep forgetting that they may only be too stiff for light weight people. I'm a decent skater and come in at 6'4 230 lbs. Do you think people of our size and weight are more at home in these stiffer AS3/AS-V models? I'm also more of a straight line, power skater who plays D and uses that straight line speed or a couple of quick hard strides to get separation, help with defensive zone break outs and to join or lead a rush.

    Always hard to compare skates because physically we are all different. Which one fits your game, my game? A tendon guard is a tendon guard. Not a critical point of performance. What is necessary is a cross section of players. A forward saying it’s a defenceman’s skate. Ask a defenceman... maybe. I play defence and chose the Jestpeed. The whole concept of, “Personal preference” nullifies any review. I still support the channel and feel it’s often more informative than most but I must point out the limitations of any reviews.

    Interestingly enough based on the previous videos 100ks are the heaviest of all, but were ranked second in terms of lightness. Just another testament to the well known fact that it’s not grams that matter, but how the skate feels on the foot!
    I was hoping for more in-depth dive into agility vs speed comment since it repeats CCM’s marketing pitch without explaining how it really translates on ice?

    You guys are going off the marketing of the skates (i.e. speed, agility, power) when they are essentially just 3 types of volume. Any type of game can work for any of these skates. It depends on your foot shape, and pronation angle. Ribcors are a little bit different though and I am not surprised that he liked them the most because they are designed more for comfort than they are performance, and without breaking in any of the skates, the ribcors will feel the best for sure because they are a lot softer. Trust me I'm a skate expert ;) literally.

    • @S0larW1nd
      @S0larW1nd Před 2 lety +2

      Very valid point! As the saying goes "it's not the car, it's the rider", if it was just as easy as strapping a different pair of skates on to completely changing the skating style then everyone would do it. Matt Barzal without an argument is a very agile player and also the winner of the fastest skater event last year so he's def quick! But he's not in Ribcore or Jetspeed - he's in AS3 Pro.
      Also as I commented above each skate line does fit quite differently due to a difference in how each boot is designed to flex. And the fit system didn't change it, it's naïve to think otherwise since just trying different lines on shows it!

I cannot afford £500 for skates at the moment, I’m looking at Super racks 9370 (155 stiffness) or Tacks AS570 (150 stiffness + 1 piece boot). What should I go for? Because of my weight, do I need that extra 5 points in stiffness? Or am I better with the one piece boot? Kinda like the look of the padding in the older ones. Just want the most support and longevity I can get as well as better performance. Coming from CCM 600’s which I must have gotten in 2004. They just aren’t up to my level and are holding me back.

    I've never played hockey before, but I'm going to start this year. I'm 6'0 280lbs, I'm just guessing but I think stiff/power skates are prob the way to go just off my weight alone. I am surprisingly agile for my size, in my younger years I was airborne infantry 200lbs and very agile. I wonder how much of an agile skate I could get away with pushing 300lbs?

    • @davetechme
      @davetechme Před 2 lety +2

      A softer boot can gain you agility in the sense that it might allow for easier ankle mobility. You definitely will sap some power and sacrifice lateral support though.
      As a heavier beginner, I'd go with the stiffest boot that fits your foot. You can gain ankle mobility by tweaking your laces (flex ankle forward when lacing the top). And lowering your blade profile radius (say from 10' to 7') reduces the amount of blade contact with the ice which allows easier turning/increased agility.
      As a beginner, I started on AS1s at 200 lbs. I weigh less now but still love them and haven't had any issues. I never found them to be clunky but maybe those claims hold more true for those who prioritize edgework, constantly manipulating their ankles, over acceleration/power.

    Anyone need a super high volume skate, wait for the as-v pro. Was able to try them on this weekend. I require a very high volume boot, the as-v pro might have gone too far in the high volume. I felt as they went further than nexus for volume. I’m typically a ee and fit a regular in as-v pro. Bought the ribcor 100k pro, feel like slippers when baked.

      You didn't like 100k Pro?
      I've only used AS1s which I really like other than not minding a bit more padding. Curious about what I'd gain or lose by going with a softer boot though.
      Or maybe I should try to pick up a clearance AS3 Pro to rotate with the AS1?

      So I recommend as someone who’s skates 10+ years and have fitted tons of skates the jetspeeds are a wide fit and not stiff overall good fit and fit the foot really well. The Tacks are also a good skate but you want to make sure you’re foot is as comfort ale as possible. If you’re foot isn’t comfortable than don’t get it. The ribcors are a very narrow fit, so if you have a wider foot it might no work. I’ll tell you right now do NOT buy the supremes or hyper light skates. The boot is unfinished and it doesn’t properly mold the foot. I’ve noticed when I watch people skate. The boot is so stiff and it can’t properly fit the foot. The most important thing is make sure you like the skate and it fits :)
