I wish this had come out 25 years ago!!
I was going to "like" but noticed you had exactly 25 like on your comment on this video coming out 25 years ago and would rather marvel in the beauty of coincidence.
Great information. You definitely saved someone lots of money. Love your videos and hope they continue.
Great info and great video as always...keep it up Chris good on ya
Thank you :)
Great video Chris! Your channel is now the first place I go for quality, objective reviews on hockey products.
Much appreciated! Let me know if there is anything you’d like to request.
Very well done video. I am just getting back into hockey and planning to go buy some skates at the store tomorrow. First time playing on ice!
You should do a video on pro-stock vs. retail gear: skates, sticks, jerseys, etc...
the difference between pro stock sticks and retail are for sticks pro players can choose custom curves they want different material in the blade and the shafts custom flex as well skates same thing they can choose different tongues different blades and holders
Oh I know. But given that it's accessible for people to buy pro stock online (prostockhockey.com, etc...), as well as things like jersey quality, I thought it might be interested for those that aren't in the know. Some may wonder whether it's worth it to invest in discounted pro stock. Just a more fleshed out breakdown of pro options vs. retail in a video.
For some items its perfectly fine to buy pro stock gear, and definitely can be a great value, mainly for things like gloves, helmets, pants..sticks and skates can be a bit iffy - one of the main reasons is what youd call "dressing" - which means you may find lets say a Bauer Vapor 1X stick, but its actually a Vapor X60 "dressed" with 1X graphics, and you actually end up with a stick thats nearly 5 years old but with the current flagship product graphics because of marketing and sales - most pro players youll notice in locker rooms dont always wear or use the most current gear, youll see players still wearing shoulder pads and elbow pads from 10 years ago that arent even made anymore, and other items that are "broken in" or "lucky" that they wont bear to stop using (Crosby still uses the same jock strap from when he was a teenager and has his equipment manager keep repairing it, theres a video out there somewhere on it) - theres lots of info on prostock stick codes to tell what actually is the model online in forums. Skates can be the same way, youll find plenty of listings for Bauer Nexus skates with a Vapor X-Rib mold pattern in them and so youre thinking youre getting a certain product but you end up with something that isnt the same as the retail version description..the nexus being a very wide fit normally but the specific prostock was built with a narrow vapor fit and dressed with nexus graphics on the outside of the skate and they end up not fitting you like they normally would in a store. Jerseys are an awesome example of the difference between 'retail/replica' and 'authentic/prostock' - ive got 2 different Reebok Edge practice jerseys - one bought from a store retail and one bought off ebay that was a game used training camp authentic and the difference is interesting how much more goes into prostock. I should probably do a video on it some time lol.
But anyways, some products are safer than others, ive got some friends that will only buy prostock stuff and swear by it, but its up to you really I guess.
Tyler Dowd google "pro stock stick codes" and youll find plenty of forums and sites that discuss the breakdowns of each brand's codes and what the stick actually is manufactured as
Great work. So clear and well organized!
This was really helpful , just getting into the sport .You provided really good insight .
Thank You! I need new skates for my twins, this video shed some light on where and what to look for.
Hey Chris, I think you should also mention the fact that any major hockey store with a pro shop or a store that specializes in skates will also modify off the shelf skates.
For example I have a wide food and I bought a pair of Bauer N9000. I needed them a little wider and the good people at Pro Hockey Life were able to widen them as well as “punch” them out in certain parts of the skate where I needed more room. This was done with a special press that stretches the skate after they come out of the oven.
The guy at PHL also told me that they can easily do this with more expensive skates because the have a higher quality of material compared to a lower costing skate. So it’s kind of like getting a custom fit skate from something off the shelf.
This was a very helpful video! Thank u and i learned so much!
One of the best and most helpful video I’ve ever watched. Great video
thanks for the video! you explained the concepts very well! i’m excited to buy my first pair of skates
Very helpful. I am needing to replace my 2010 Eastons here shortly and this will be a great help when I walk into the store.
Great videos.. Getting back into the game after 17yrs away, its crazy to see how much gear has changed.. These videos help alot. Great Job. 👍😎
Great video! Really appreciate your professionalism.
Thank you for info. Can't wait to get my new skates in a few months time. Doing research ....
Love your videos 👌🏻
I learned a ton from your video. Only a year and a half into this sport, thanks to a buddy in Toronto and eager to learn.
Awesome information! Thank you
Your videos are amazing. Thanks!
my second video i watched and i love it , great details easy to understand and follow , thank you so much
Great video. Thanks for the information, this will help a ton going forward with my son.
I truly wish this video and information was around when I was playing as a kid! Great video , I would really like to see a video on the information of 3D building of personal skates !! Thanks again great video!!
Now I know what’s going on, thanks for the help 💕
In the market for some new skates right now. Thanks for this video!
Thank you, this vid was very informative.
Excellent overview......thanks!
Very great video, helped me a lot
Excellent video!!! Thanks...
I lucked out when I got my CCM skates. But I'm a goalie and I need a very different skate than a regular player would use. I'd love to see a video on goalie skates and how to get a good fit. I've been retired from hockey for a while now but I still enjoy a drop in once in a while. I swear by CCM and I still have my old skates. (they are still serving me very well) Looking forward to more videos.
Really good breakdown of types, glad I got the Ribcor..
Thank you David!
Great video man. Really helpful.
Glad we could help!
Such a well done video!! I think I've got my eye on the Ribcor 80k
Cheers mate. Appreciate the help.
Excellent presentation.
Awesome video!
Nice job mate , keep going👌🤝
It would be awesome to watch you go through the custom skate option to include runners etc... I know you addressed the aftermarket runners in a separate video but if you can swing it, a video about custom skates from top to bottom would really be interesting. Thanks
These videos are excellent regardless of your experience level with buying skates, specifically for younger players
I would love to see the video about the custom skates!
I'm not new to hockey, but this had a lot of information that was new to me!
Mr. Johnson same man!
Hey when you are comming in Switzerland can you passe at the vallee de joux please it s very beautiful and with a good ice rink
Very nice video !
Excellent Video.
Excellent.....never knew this
great vid thanx
Thanks for sharing. What's been best for you in the high volume fit ? I remember seeing you coming at at under 2.5 L/W ratio in one of your previous videos.
Good content mate
great video....i use Eaton Makos which are discontinued I believe but they were good fit all around for me because I just continued up Easton line from all the Synergy skates....would love to see a TRUE custom skate video
What a shame that Makos are discontinued, those are best skates that i've had so far.
i would love to see a video comparing top end youth skates (1x vs 1s vs 2s) , (ft1 vs as1) or ( s27 vs x900) ty love the videos.
Do a footbed/insole video. Like Superfeet vs Bauer speed plates etc.
Great job, as a 62 yo player that lives in retirement w/o hockey...I wish I found ur videos when I lived up north. All the best.
Thank you very much. Glad to hear you enjoy them
Very well made video bro.
Thanks
would love to see a video on custom skates
Hey thanks I used to use ccm tacks but now I should be using jetspeed
Hey thanks for the video. I just threw away a CCM pair of skates that I had hardly used because although they fit well in the store they were painful to skate with. Im a recreational skater and casual player with a ratio of 2.6 and wide feet. Cant really afford too much ,so am looking to Nexus N2700. Any thoughts??
Would love to see a custom skate video
he has one
Goob
I have small feet and got the vapor,I love them, however the padding on the heel is a little stiff and hurts after a few minutes. Should I make them again or did I get the wrong size?
Very helpful, have a 12.5 A width foot, just skate once a week for fun, and fitness. Age 61, I watched Lou Lamoriello coach at Providence. Bought a $400 pair of skates 5 years ago, awful, too wide, pinched my toes, put three inserts in to fill space. Bought a pair of CCM 44k Ribcore size 10, better but still fell movement in right skate. Any thoughts? Many thanks, Ken
Great video
I would love to see a true skate video. Thanks
Very informative video, clearly explained - thank you. Do you work at a skate store in England? And if you do not, do you know any hockey/ice skate stores in the London/South East area that you would recommend visiting for good customer care? Thanks, again!
Thank you very much. Creating these videos is actually what we do for a living. No great stores in the London area, you need to travel up north. We recommend PuckStop in Sheffield. it’s a great distance from London but worth it for customer service and product range.
I have the bauer 1x (older vesion), and it fit me quite perfectly, but I want to switch to the ccm ribcore 70k because it offers more forward flexion. However, I am a bit worried that the forefoot of the 70k skates would be too narrow. Any suggestions?
Do a video on goalie skates
When are the 2018 skates coming out
Can you review about Bauer sticks
Thank you I have wide size 12 uk and can’t find skates this gets me a bit closer to comfort any suggestions for size 13 for my 6 ft 4 son pls 👍
Thank you
Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou!
Was the CCM foot analysis accurate? What did it recommend for you? Do you know when they are going to bring that to stores??
Pkease do a video avout the custom skate
Can you do a ccm vs bauer equipment?
Lightning hawk33 I must say I like vapor equipment alot but CCM is alot more intermediate
Elite Gaming what does that even mean
Bauer sounds c00ler
Chris is a CCM fan boy
I'm no pro. I just like skating when I can but my ankles are fucked along with some other foot injuries. Would a custom skate help or be a waste of money? I usually just get a Bauer and tapenthe shit outta my ankles. Some input would be great. Thank you for such an informative video I'll be sure to subscribe and all the other shit too. Thanks again!
Thanks chris
Thank you for this video very interesting , I have a question to ask you
I go to the rink all weekend, I have a good level and it is a sport that excites me. Moreover I would like buy skates. I have a budget of 100-150 euros for you which would be the best ratio quatity / level / price ?
For that price range its kinda difficult to get much variety to choose from
I've been watching skate fit videos for the last few months. I hope you can advise! I live in Scotland and started playing in August after buying a pair of bauer vapour x40s on holiday in canada. Having never played I didn't understand the need I may have had for a better skate. I had also never played so the 50CAD price (around £35) was fine. Now that I'm getting better and skating harder I'm noticing the weaknesses of these skates. I'm also around 115kg and 6'5" with an 11-12uk shoe size. I tried getting in touch with puckstop uk but I was told they didn't have these sizes in store. They are also a 6 hour drive for me and the hockey shops in Scotland are small and also don't stock "unusual sizes".
One shop had a pair of old vapour x60s. The old pro model. I picked them but haven't skated on them yet.
I'm mostly worried about the lateral support that I get. I feel like my ankle can roll to the side way more than they should which means I can't turn as deeply as I want to. Literally none of the videos online ever address this. How much should your skate be able to lean over to each side when you are standing up straight?
Am I just a bender?
Cavan Douris . He Cavan. I’m 52 and played since 4. You’re a big guy just starting out. As you get more comfortable and able to skate with confidence, you will start to turn with more speed and be able to turn tighter. It’s all in the speed and balance. It’s a fun game and people do not realize how much fun it is. The most fun part my buddies and I have is after is the dressing room having beers and cutting each other up like brothers. Good luck and have fun.
I used to skate with figure skating shoe but this week I bought a pair of bauer s180. I took them out on the ice today and the first thing i noticed when i skate faster on the ice i hear a terrible crackling noise that i never heard of when i figure skate. It also felt like I was going over a bunch of tiny bumps on the ice. I had them sharpened at the store. What exactly could the problem be? any advice helps.
Hey, I hope I get an answer, it would be important to me. I have a Bauer Vapor X700 in size 12 and the wide EE. I have now ordered a 1X, from the same year, in the same size and the same width. Do you think he will sit just like my present one? I thank you in advance in advance for the answer.
I love this channel, so does my 5 yr son
Hello, I do not train hockey, i just play on holidays but is it worth spending 150 - 200$ just to get a pair that fits properly and so I can have them for some years.
Most online stores accept online returns or returns to stores if they have a brick and mortar store. Being in Columbus, we have only 1 hockey store other than the standard sporting stores. Shocking with an NHL team, honestly to me. I'm looking to get into playing hockey but the store prices are well over the budget that I have in mind. Looking at staying under $70 I've found the CCM Super Tacks and CCM Jetspeed. But after watching this video I think it eliminated the Jetspeed because I do have a wider ball of the foot area. Any thoughts if you still come to this video??
Have a pair of 1x vapors...comparing them to my vapor 10s not a real fan...might try Supremes next
I want to get a pair of hockey skates, but to go on the ice for fun not for sport. So at least whenever I can each month to go on the ice. Cccm might be a better choice for me? Im not so sure yet haha
Perfect timing. ...we're shopping for new skates now.
he has one called vh skates
Do u know when Bauer is coming out with custom skates?
I have a Nexus n6000 skate and I have difficulty with my in side edges because my feet bend in. I did not have this problem with my old graf skates. Is it due to softness or wrong skate type? I skate around 12-16hr or more a week
Definitely interested in a video on your thoughts of a custom skate vs an off the shelf skate being baked and having problem areas punched out.
I've always had some trouble finding skates that I *really* feel comfortable in because of bony bits of my feet which stick out a little bit. I find when I pull my skates nice and tight I get far better performance (as you'd expect) however the sides of my skates really press against the bony bits and it is extremely uncomfortable to skate in and when the skates are taken off can be painful as my foot readjusts to not be squeezed any more. This makes me sometimes not tie them up so tight so I get a bit of comfort, but my power is seriously impacted and my feet wobble in the skate a little bit, sometimes causing me to do a comedy slip up 🙄
I'd be interested in a video which might explain if a custom skate would benefit me or if other options might be available.
Custom Skate video Please
Hi, i tried ccm tacks 1052 and the forefoot hit me very hard. I wanna buy a skate beacause i go frequently on the ice ( im not bad btw) and i want to know what can i buy with 150 euros. Thk for the answer , you are great
Do you have any vídeo about sharping skates? 😉
You should have noted that goalie skate lines are not the same fits. Supreme goalie ~vapor fit (I fit vapor goal skates) but can't say the same for ccm skate line . I'm trying to play out and I bought the wrong skate fit (used). Most stores don't give a direct answer to the skates unless they specialize in goalie gear too.
This is DEEP SCIENCE my friend, thank you SO MUCH!!
P.S: this is where the expression " cheap skates" came from, someone who doesn't invest properly in his Hockey shoes...🤣🤣🤣
Could you please do a goalie skates video please
You are the Anthony Bucci of Revzilla, or Ryan Fnine of F9 CZcams. Thx for all the help!
Would this video help me if i just want to buy good ice skates? Like i am not a hocky player
Do ccm as1 vs Bauer 2s pro for skates
I've find out that ccm skates are not as flexible when you bake it as bauer ones.. Do you know the answer to it?
Do custom skates video
when I borrow the free skates they feel fine when I first put them on but after just one lap my feet are aching, so how do I pick the right size at the store?
