I love your advice here! As a student nurse, I struggle with confidence when trying new skills. Especially when it's with patients, as I worry about harming them. I wish my uni would allow us to use the skill room to practice as I would benefit from that. I have asked as I do want more time and don't find the skills session enough. I will take your advice on board! This is just what I needed to hear.

Aw bless you! Does your uni not have a skills hub where you can book in and practice skills on extra days? :(
Birmingham City University have this. It’s a separate room / building with all the skills in there for you to practice. It’s amazing! 🥰 I assumed most Uni’s had this 🙈 x

@@ClaireCarmichael we have a simulation suite and skills room. I asked if this is an option and was told due to staff capacity, not at the moment. I'm midway through second year and this is something I would have benefited from. When I asked, I enquired about it being with a teacher, so that may be why. I'll ask again bif it's option to use without one.

I may need it. Maybe not in skills, but in interaction with people who like to question everything (that they have right to but are very intimidating)! ❤

Thank you for this video, just what I needed to hear. As a qualified nurse for 7 years I think you never feel too confident within the workplace. I’m definitely going to buy a manual blood pressure machine as working in the hospital we don’t use them but it’s such a basic skill to have that I don’t use often therefore not very confident within this skill xx

    Hi Claire,
I'm so glad that you made this vlog. I struggle with confidence in the workplace. I started as a band 2, and am now promoted to band 3 hemodialysis ha in renal. The manager is keen to promote me to band 4 once I show my competency in using the dialysis machine. and then nursing. I do the mirror work in the morning saying " I love you and forgive you". I can see myself up to a band 4 and always doubt myself when thinking about undertaking a degree. I'm in my fifties and not getting any younger.

      Morning!
Thank you for your message :)
Aw that’s amazing Jo!! Well done!’ The fact they want to promote you to a band 4 already says a lot about you! They must see something in you that you can’t 🥰 fabulous!
You can do anything you put your mind too, you CAN do this! Age is just a number :)
I met a patient who was 94 years old and still fishing most days! She was amazing.
Keep going, keep pushing yourself 💪🏻✨ xx
