Agreed! That was one of the undeniable strategic factors involved with making Lost in Space the epic hit it became which has lasted the test of time approaching nearly a half century later. Most folks have no idea just how much of an impact a spectacular memorable soundtrack and particularly musical theme-song makes in the overall impact a film has upon us. That, accounting for why once the advent of "talkies" circa 1929 became technologically possible, the benefits of film married with a synchronized dialog and sound track began an entirely new "golden age" of motion picture making and entertainment.

Some bright beautiful colors, including the outfits the cast wore, in season 1. Too bad, at the time, we could only see them in black & white. Season 1 was more of a serious nature and I liked that much more. If you ever get the chance, watch the trailer C-B-S used to promote Lost in Space in the fall of 1965, just before the pilot aired. You will see the series was meant to be more of an adult space family soap opera and struggles trying to survive the unknowns of space travel, while trying to find their way back to earth. Not silly like the espisodes that started towards the end of season 1. It was starting to be more like a kids show. You can find the trailer on CZcams. Jonathan Harris and the Robot were actually added in after the pilot was already made. They used most of the pilot, but added Dr. Smith and the Robot's parts into it. Harris was responsible for the the changes because he didn't like playing the original character of the evil Dr. Smith. And, he was afraid that character would be killed off after the first few episodes. Irwin Allen, the show's creator, liked the new changes in Dr. Smith's character and told Harris to keep on doing it. Later Harris started rewrite scripts, change scenes and do pretty much whatever he wanted. I honestly don't know what Allen was thinking! Eventually, the show began to center on Dr. Smith, Will Robinson and the Robot. This caused alot of resentment towards Harris by fellow actor Guy Williams. Williams, who played Professor John Robinson, was supposed to be the series major star. I wish it had stayed on track the way the it started out. If it had I, really believe it would have lasted longer than 3-seasons (1965-1968).

    • @mikeadams110
      @mikeadams110 Před 5 lety

Don't go by what Jonathan Harris preferred everyone to believe which was heavily filtered thru his own egotistical prism. The actual reason Irwin Allen made the concession of giving Jonathan Harris "free rein & creative license" regarding whatever script dialog changes he wanted to make was solely a SNUB.
It was the only way Allen could enjoy at least a modicum of retribution toward the sponsors who forced him into adding the "Dr. Smith and Robot" characters into the series underlying motif which he never liked nor wanted. Whether that was ultimately good or bad for the overall series development is a matter of opinion and interpretation depending upon whom you ask.
But it's unarguably one of the primary reasons fully accounting for why the show got off to such a spectacular blockbuster start but quickly began "taking a nosedive" from which it never fully recovered while just barely into its debut season.
Why should the professional storywriters work their butts off creating quality premium content when a hammy over-demanding actor (JH) was given free rein by the series creator (IA) to trash it and ad-lib their lines? That's in total violation of one of the most fundamental taboos in the motion picture industry which frequently warrants immediate termination on the spot 99.9% of the time.
All things considered, it's a pretty safe bet that factor was one of several which contributed to the show's cancelled toward the normal conclusion of season 3. Given that fatal death blow so early on it's amazing our beloved Space series survived as long as it did.

  • @mikeadams110
    @mikeadams110 Před 5 lety +1

Absolutely magnificent and spectacular work by Guy Michael Foster! I couldn't possibly be anymore impressed. I only wish I'd discovered his work and content much earlier than just today.
Back during the earliest days of colorization when the technology was "still in its infancy" the quality was rather awful and a bit cringe-worthy at the very least. But drastic improvements arose in "leaps and bounds" once HD digitized frame-scanning & processing techniques became utilized as the industry standard.
That great advancement, used in conjunction with "wet-gate" film transport technology which naturally "fills in" thus eliminates, a near entirety of scratches and other such imperfections caused by normal "wear & tear" the original source film suffered during past usage.
It's truly amazing how a mere droplet of water (even nearly microscopic in size) uses the properties of light and "natural lensing" to magically "fill in" any small voids or imperfections. That, being achieved by interpolating what was originally there based upon the presently available neighboring detail surrounding it. An almost absurdly simple concept and technique which consistently produces stunning results regarding the restored detail sharpness and clarity of what had previously been lost.
What I love most about today's "digitally enhanced colorization process" is how its use of color not only augments the B&W films from whence they originated by a quantum leap, but the results are actually superior to films shot entirely in 21st century technicolor in the customary manner. The reason being, its most important detail is given the most bursts of color and least important details are left almost unaltered so as still in near B&W shades of gray.
The result is a color enhancement process which not only accomplishes what it originally set out to do, being convert B&W to Color, but further greatly accentuates the most strategic detail the film's creator intended viewers to focus upon the closest. The latter outcome, being a wholly unintended but wondrous added bonus which makes the visual results and stories they convey truly "come alive" and jump out of the screen at us. 5702450544@windstream.net

It would be great to see the First Season episodes in colour and at such a good resolution. Season One had the most serious story lines that could be taken seriously - especially the evil Dr Smith character - before it became too comical and had too many Earth-like aliens.
It was not presumed that atmospheres were breathable, and that aliens all spoke English. First Season episodes could be taken seriously by adults. Even the dialog between Will and his father was better then.
All it needed was a better-sized Jupiter II. I'm sure that computer graphics could bring this in line with today's standards.
I love the vivid colours used.

started out as a serious science fiction show in the first season for the most part then devolved into a children's show for the most part. I liked the entire series but I had my share of episodes that I didn't care for. It would have been nice with the beautiful outfits that it could have been filmed in colour. Perhaps the whole first season could be colorized like this.

I love it! It must have taken so much time to do this because it's such a great job! Did you know what the colors were supposed to be or just a guess??? Either way just seeing it in color gave the first season a whole other take! Thank you!

There are actually a lot of color stills and publicity photos from the first season. We usually guess use those as a reference, that is until we memorized them lol
      Thanks for commenting!

Hi Eugenia, yes the images can take anywhere from 30' to 4 hours. Average about 2hrs. Due to the existence of pre-existing color stills I was able to build up quite a significant color palette library based on sampling of pixels in the color images. The only real guesswork is with some guest stars costumes, alien ships and one-off props that appeared. Thanks for your kind comments. When are the Season 1 episodes going to be released in color? It’s high time…
There must be a big market from world-wide fans to the original series who will buy the color version.
This colorized version is excellent work.
$20 would be a good price.

    I MISS THIS SHOW
WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CHANGE EVERYTHING
    IN THE MOVIES
    FOR THIS SHOW!
WHAT WAS REALLY MISSING IN THE MOVIES
    TO THIS SHOW
    WAS THE ROBOT....
THEY SHOULD HAVE USED THE ORIGINAL DESIGN WITH THE
    ROBOT WITH THE SAME ROBOT
    VOICE! THATS WHY THEY DIDN'T
    DO AS WELL @
    THE BOX OFFICE
    LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE .
    A PRIME EXAMPLE
OF HOW THESE MOVIE LOSE MONEY
    BECAUSE THEY KEEP CHANGING
    THINGS.
    THATS WHY THE 80S ROCKED
    [ORIGINALITY]!!!!!!

I have a tape of Casablanca colorized by Turner. It's not bad. The piano is yellow. Yellow often appears bright white in B&W film.

It was done by some little-known obscure composer by the name of Williams something. This was the only music he ever did and he died alone and penniless after spending the rest of his empty life as a fry cook in the middle of nowhere Arizona. It's a shame he didn't try and keep going because there is definitely some musical potential here!
