About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. @@Obeijin we got are first color TV in 1967 when I was 12 years old. Before that we were watching black and white TVs we purchased at a local thrift store. It felt like we were rich watching a 25 inch RCA color TV. That RCA Lasted for years we would watch it until 12 midnight until the stations went off the air. My uncle would come home from the military base were he worked as a air traffic controller at 5 in the morning and flip the TV back on. That RCA got a heck of a lot of hours clocked on the CRT. It still worked years later when we replaced it with a another new RCA. Lord what I wouldn't give to go home again and be with my loving hard working parents again. Now everyone is dead and I'm a elderly old man with only my two Chihuahuas to keep me company. 😢

Brings fond memories of after school days, watching Lost In Space, Gilligan's Island, Get Smart, McHale's Navy, Sanford and Son, and last but not least Star Trek, cartoon and Live action. . I watched these all in re-runs, I remember watching as far back as 1970 to around 1985-ish when I graduated high school and entered the Navy.
Strother Martin's character Mr. Nerim scrambles around in Mr. Miner...perfect, since he's mining "Cosmonium". Cosmonium is what Smith trades part of the Astrogator for, loosing it to a planetquake, which breathes life into his statue monument of his 'spirit'. After the statue absorbs all the Cosmonium, it attacks and nearly destroys Jupiter 2, which barely makes escape velocity, almost being sucked back into the gravity well of the planet, before making a last minute escape.
This was season II 1st episode of Lost In Space, with Strother Martin (of the original True Grit fame) was exciting at the time to see the Jupiter 2 lift off into space after an entire season of adventures on Proxima Centauri. I only wish there was more time spent in space, similar to the first 3 or 4 episodes or season 1. Had the show kept up with a more of a serious tone, and had they kept going that way, I think the show would have lasted longer than even Star Trek had. Both had a short 3 year run, and both did very well in syndication. So well in fact, that the networks realized the mistakes made in cancelling both shows prematurely. Cheers!

I am also a great fan of this imaginative Science Fiction Classic TV Series. I loved nearly everything about it, even the "corny stuff" that would happen from show to show. For some reason, I also developed a little crush on Angela Cartwright. I was 15 in 1968 and she was riding in the open Convertible along the Strawberry Festival Parade route that early Summer. I was standing in the front row, as her car passed by in the parade. She is 15 days older than I am, but it never bothered me that I had a crush on an older woman. And no, though I had the imagination, I lacked the courage to speak with her afterward. One never knows, lol.

This would have been known as “off air reception” back in the day. Back when televisions picked up the signal by an antenna on a house rooftop. And yes, weather conditions did affect the signal. Now of course we use cable or standard definition or high definition signal. The off air signal doesn’t work anymore, which is a shame, it was great for those small TVs people used for outside viewing in the back yard.

I live in Ontario Canada, and we got Lost In Space reruns on WKBD TV50 from Detroit Michigan. I remember using the rotator to direct the antenna to the southwest for the best reception. Those old outdoor TV antennas, the fuzzy UHF image, the way the weather would affect it, the thrill when you got a really good crisp clear picture! Nostalgia.

    • @Nathan-jq1uw

@@kainnosgoth7336 Well, I grew up in the 1970s, and with the outdoor TV antenna I could get stations from Michigan that weren't on our Canadian cable system. Stations I didn't know were there. The atmosphere would change and all of a sudden we'd pull in WEYI 25 from Saginaw/ Bay City or channel 12 from Flint. It was like fishing, those fringe channels weren't always available, but when they came in... I don't know, but there seemed something very cool about knowing the metal antenna was grabbing the signal from the air and bringing it down the twin-lead wire to your TV in the basement. Even if the reception was dodgy, it was cool. I remember the spooky movie host Sir Graves Ghastly on Detroit TV, and then there was the Ghoul, though he was a little too funky for me. The Detroit UHF stations were the best for old reruns like Bewitched, Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch, and of course my fave Lost In Space. I remember Bill Kennedy the old movie host on channel 50, and how he'd say "We have a great movie for you today, and it's in color!" That feeling we lose as we get older, and I guess that's what they mean by enjoy living in the present moment because soon enough this present moment will be part of the "good old days!"

From what I remember (and apologies if this was put in before), this show was aired in the NYC market during the '70's on WNEW Channel 5 in New York.
And if one looks at the credits, notice . . . Red Skelton's company listed as one of the production companies (and his show's executive producer credited the same here). Skelton had a stake in the show.

Yes I remember that "Lost In Space" was on Channel 50 Detroit and Channel 43 Cleveland. This was years ago when we had an antenna. Both channels suffered from poor pictures at times and the antenna had to be turned by rotor. I remember even before the rotor we had to move the antenna with a bar. Still it does take you back.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate" Strother Martin was a great actor. All the character actors from the movies made the rounds of TV in the 60's. This show was shot at 20th Century Fox (that name didn't age well). I love how his character sees right through Smith. As the show went on, Smith the sly saboteur and medical Dr turned into a bumbling idiot.

Originally aired on CBS but recorded as a rerun years later - WFLD UHF 32.
UHF stations did not have the huge budgets of the big networks and so they showed reruns. Also often a less powerful signal, easier to get snow or interference.

Several years ago on the Chicago super station (which I don't think is on my cable system any more) I was watching an episode of Hawaii 5-0. In the middle of a chase scene it cut to commercials and when it finally returned their local news began, eliminating the ending of the episode of Hawaii 5-0.
