- In less than two weeks, Riot will be globally releasing Vanguard for League of Legends and this new anti-cheat might wipe out a lot of cheaters in the game.
But they’ve also shared just how many cheaters League has had in recent years and the results are, well, disturbing.
So how bad is it? And will Vanguard really save the day?

thats why there are so many bots in kr, its because foreigners can't just make their own account, so they have bots farm lvl30 kr accounts to sell
and anyone can create an account in cn, you just need a QQ id which can be spoofed easily but same applies here
just sell lvl30 account to foreigners who want to play on cn super server
1 in 15 cheaters ? Thats a bargain for CS players
1 in 15 games, granted there is a 10 people lobby, so it's more of a 1 in 100 to 1 in 146 people actually using cheats.
I'll just guess about 1 in 120 is a scripter i guess, which is enough to infect this amount if games, so even like a 1% cheating population is a problem...

its also an inflated number bc they also counted bot accounts, which is waaaaaaay more than regular cheaters, i'd say 1/10 at least
@@chowchow4642 i kinda disagree yes i think the anticheat is overkill but the numbers make sense if ghe cheater's are mostly in high rank where a small portion of players reside i can see the 1 in 15 being legit
these statistics are skewed because it INCLUDES botting, I very rarely encounter cheaters/scripters. but if you make a new account and level it with CO-OP gamemode you will never see another human. your team is 4 accounts being leveled by bots and obviously the opposing team is game's own bots.

Honestly I am not happy about CS2s current situation either but personally I would take cheaters over yet another rootkit. Vanguard will work temporarily until a majority of cheaters switch to hardware level hacks. Valve seems to be actually developing solutions to that, which I am honestly excited about.

People have been auto-cleansing stuns for years. Not only did you ahve to deal with shitty teammates but also cheaters on the enemy team.

Vanguard keeps running on your system even if you don't open the game. It's extremely invasive. I'd rather have something like Faceit anticheat, which is also a kernel level anticheat but only opens with opening the game and not on boot.
just shut down vanguard and restart your computer... it literally takes less than a minute

@@northernpolaris9895 Realistically its because any cheat that is active pre-launch of the ac already bypassed it and you can simply spoof it. This means regular ac like eac and faceit are completely useless, if you have an ac that launches at the start of your windows boot, it makes spoofing much harder. It also mean that in order to cheat, you would have to go the extra mile via dma as compared to downloading a lua script and being able to cheat in faceit
As much as people would say "JuSt DeVelOp AI aNtIcHeAt", well... until a major title game actually does implement it and show that it actually works, then that can be brought up to the conversation.
Yeah you got no clue what you're talking about. Faceit and vanguard actually run in the EXACT same manner. Both are active on startup.

I haven't climbed particularly high, but I think I've encountered one troll in my 100 games of ranked, that I noticed at least.
Most of the time people troll you because you're being toxic, that's what happens in draft pick at least. I could imagine higher ranked players "knowing" when a game is over and feeding to get it over with sooner though. But even this seems to not be that common.

In China they will arrest cheater if they know your ip.
Have u ever heard of Tencent's own Anti-Cheat called Tenpertect?
A programme which scans your whole fking computer and hard disck when u launch the fking game.
Vanguard seems very gentle in terms of privacy compare to tenpertect.
Online accounts in China are directly linked to your government ID. The only cheating that occurs in China is government sanctioned.
Scripting doesn't seem as impactful, unless I've been fooled this entire time. I feel like when I lose, I got outplayed (or camped, ha!) rather than feeling cheated.
Compared to CS, I can tell when somebody is cheating vs really good.
That's how bad scripting in League is. With script, they can see there u have vision, and land and dodge skill shot almost every single time, and u just thought you were outplayed. Whereas in CS, yoi can at least tell they are Cheating and just give up the game. At least that's the case for me. If I noticed someone is hacking on my CS game, I will just play like I am in practice mode and chill.

Have you come across those rotating adcs? They kite so fast that they start rotating.
Or those people you just can't hit with skillshots, you need to be at point blank to have a chance of hitting them. And so much more. My favourite scripter moved synchronically to my movements to stay just a tad out of my attackrange - I was in the bushes, no teemo there, no wards.
Thor summed it pretty much on his stream regarding AC and Ban systems.
They usually dont just ban in small waves instead in big waves that banned ten if not hundred thousands account in single ban wave, furthermore they need to solve the vulnerabilities in their game first before going with ban waves.
You dont need invasive Kernel level AC for your games.
Yeah, even tough I am one of the Vanguard defenders, I also think its a bit excessive that kernel level AC exist.
Weird story. This stat is inflated since most botted games are played by account leveling bots for the account selling market, which is the main reason Riot pushes vanguard

I feel like the “1 in 15” or “1 in 5” cheating numbers came out on purpose by Riot as a way to get people to accept Vanguard being installed onto their PC’s. Ive been playing league since season 2 and i cant remember 5 games where I’ve had cheaters with or against me. Thats just my personal experience tho.
That’s for sure. Also the way the stats are presented is dishonest, by including bots in the 1 in 15 number you make it worthless.
Been playing for about as long and I think I've probably experienced roughly the same amount of cheating. If more people were cheating than I thought, then I guess there were a bunch of people who cheated in a way that didn't feel particularly unfair in a way that was noticeable.

In low elo, it's more of a bot problem. I remember when I was gold 5+ seasons ago, that bots in norms but mostly aram ruined games. In higher elos (eg. my master games), I encounter a obvious scripter once a week and as jng, I'm sometimes so confused on how they know my exact position in fog of war, perma pings throughout all the game and it really makes U wonder if they were cheating
@@PartyMain I never see a LoL script that has MH before, all I know about LoL scripts is that, it tracks down the skills and spells CDs, neutral cs respawns, auto dodge projectile skill(if the caster or the projectile was visible on the map), auto combo, auto ignite when enemy was low hp, auto flash for dodging, auto zhonya, autoheal (spells), auto wave clear, and auto last hit cs.

@@neojist8422 You can always disable the driver whenever you'd like-you'll just need a fresh reboot to "recertify" the integrity of the trust chain before you jump into game. - The dev blog post. i dont have vanguard installed so i cant say how the driver is called i thing something like "vgc" u can disable it or even uninstall vanguard completly...

CS with a crazy 3 in 1 games having a cheater
In less then 2 weeks I need to stop cuz vanguard still overrides my graphic card fans so they stop working. Don’t know if some more people had the problem. Had to reinstall Valo and of course Vanguard and never touched it again. Played for 12 years never so a cheater and now I can’t play. ☺️ nice time to quit

Yeah but there are ALOT of games being played at the same time so even if 1 in 15 is correct the odds that u will be in 1 of them is less then that, and thats assuming u notice it in the first place. The vast majority of ppl playing with cheaters probadly have no ide they are doing it.

I cannot see this actually fixing this game.. toxicity, trolling and smurfing are the real issues with this game. Even if people are cheating with scripts like rats, they do not know how to use them properly imo. if your not good enough to actually learn a game and become even some what decent at anything, your going to suck at cheating with it as well imo

Wonder what will happen with Intro level bot games, where 100 out of 100 games have bots in it, probably going to have much longer queue times.
It took a week to the cheaters to be back and legit players are leaving, meanwhile even big streamers are having problems with vanguard.

Okay I have legit seen no one mention this, but doesn't ANYONE besides me find it weird that they lumped scripters and botted accounts into the same "cheaters" graphs and data? I'm assuming it's a strategy to try and make people more comfortable with Vanguard by being able to say "look guys there's a cheater 1 in 10 games we really need this!!!" when in reality the 'cheater' in 90% of those games isn't a scripter, but just a smurf who bought a botted account for $2.50 to play on... I have absolutely no issue with Vanguard and I'm actually excited to have even fewer cheaters in LoL, but Riot trying to convince people who think otherwise by lumping botted accounts in with real scripters is just disgusting to me.

All the same. Smurfs are cheaters, too. They cheat the system and break ToS by buying accounts. Smurfs have no prestige or high ground, they're not better than filthy cheaters so I'm not too upset that they deservedly lump them in with scripters, even if it falsifies the statistics. Hell, I'd love much more derogatory terms for those two groups of people, like 'offenders'. Feels like a necessary sacrifice at this point to give deterring titles to bad people so they're shamed in public.

Scripts and bots that play the game are run via the same execution; the same program that loads cheats also loads bots, which to Riot is indistinguishable when it comes to looking at the data. They don't look to see what each account was doing, they just detect scripts and ban them. That's why the data is lumped together.

I think it's because players in China and Korea use their government-issued IDs to create their accounts so they don't risk using cheats.
My issue with vanguard is that it runs on startup of my PC, whether I've logged into the game launcher or not. And I'm about to test this in a minute, but it looks like if you go into task manager and shut it off manually, when you finally are ready to boot up the launcher it won't let you go to the game until you've restarted your computer. Meaning the only way to log into the game is to allow this anti cheat software to run on your pc at all times, even when you don't need it, unless you restart your computer *every time you want to play a Riot game.* I love League of Legends, but if this keeps up, I probably won't be keeping anything Rito on my computer for much longer. I might not even make it to Project L's release

I've been playing league super casually since beta. I uninstalled the moment I heard vanguard was coming to it. It caused so many issues with my PC with Valorant that I'm not even going to bother with it anymore. Sad that the account I've had so long and invested so much money on skins is left to rot now.

I've had a bot in my OCE games ever after vanguard went live. It's slowed them down but it hasn't stopped them yet
that 1 in 15 games is padded. That number includes any and all accounts that they believe have been ever levelled by bots in vs ai games and then are purchased by players as alt accounts / after their main has been banned to skip the manual levelling process that sucks. stop falling for the bait, you're supposed to be better.

its not about "i dont want to see them what i do on my computer"... its about i want to know what they do on / with my computer. and since anti cheat has kernel access it can do everything and hide it from you. so in theory you can mine bitcoin while its running, or worse getting used as a botnet for ddos attacks or even worse things, like hosting child pornography on your computer for the internet. just some possibilitys mentioned.
Alot of work with a lot of room for error for an anticheat that wont even do shitt except planting a rootkit on ur pc

Nah. They always knew, they just never bothered to do literally anything. Like always. Cheating in high elo in season 11 was rampant. DDOSing was rampant. Wintrading was also rampant with so many people exposing and giving proof. Riot did absolutely nothing.

In a separate post, it was stated there is a different anti-cheat system being ran there in accordance to laws and such.
Will work for a few weeks then it will follow the same trend as in Valorant or other games with kernel level anti cheats

Already uninstalled League. Proud Silver player, no cheats, Honor level 4. Was a new player trying to learn the game, but I'm not going to continue to spend time or support a company that uses invasive software like this. Won't be surprised if cheaters will be more prevalent cause cheaters will try to "beat the system" and will see Vanguard as a challenge. Thank you for making these videos and informing us.

If they know there is 1 cheater in 15 games how do they know when they are saying the current anti cheat is not working ? so the numbers are a lie and the anti cheat is not working or the anti cheat ist working and they know there is 1 in 15 games then there is no need for vanguard becouse they can already detect the cheater so for me it smeels like a reason to install shit vanguard

@@VicarioussChallenger i would assume long term data can only be collected if the ac is working otherwise the data is worth nothing. and if they have the capacity to Review all manual reports then ac would not be needed.
ya'll completely missed what packman does. it makes the games binary much harder to decrypt. not, "make the code more confusing". that's like saying adding extra characters to your password makes it "so confusing" to hackers

If it was more than 1 player, it wouldn't be "1 in 15 games".
2 players out of 150 players -> 1 player in 75 players -> 1 in 7.5 games has a cheater

Vanguard is not malicious, and does not enable access to areas that are not allowed. U can make an argument against those claims but for that u need to have proof and not just: "I think". I see where this comes from but without any proof there is no reason to say its a root kit.

If they would want to collect your data they simply could do it from the league client. there is no adventage of using a kernel to do it. This whole argument of stealing data is just a witch hunt of people who dont know stuff. Thats whats triggering me :D

It will work up to a point, evetually hackers always win the arms race. cheating will turn to ai and then they have to develop ai to detect ai and it just gets impossible.

honestly tho, having ur credentials linked to your account would make your gaming account have more meaning to it, as controversial as it may be.
All in all it's a great excuse for tencent to get even more of your info, because you are encouraged to let Vanguard run even more in the background. Win - win for them. So don't forget to close down Vanguard every moment you are not playing rito stuff. Restarting your PC is better than letting them sell your info!

Tell that to the people with apps and games on their phones, where we have our most valuable info: our bank accounts, our pictures, our conversations, sometimes even our ID. If people are worried about some anticheat spying on their computer, then they should also be worried about the games and apps they install. Some of them don't have anticheats and have been proven to steal sensitive data.
Will League's scripting problem be stopped by Vanguard? Probably not. Will it stop the infestation of levelling bots farming co-op to sell once they hit level 30? Most likely.
maybe leveling bots. But cheap smurfs will still be there. there is always a poor country where u can put people infornt of an pc and let them "bot" accounts for very cheap. Scripting has to be seen tho. I dont think that the current script platforms will survive but league is one of the most popular games in the world and is free to play....there is so much money to be made with scripting...there will eventually be a new platform

I just encountered my first 2 legit bots in ranked. AFTER vanguard was launched
Vanguard couldnt save Valorant from hard-cheaters and soft-cheaters.. how exactly will it save League, maybe it removes the casual cheater but that'll be about it there will still be plenty running rampant with undetectable cheats or even hardware level cheats.

This is a "cat and mouse" game and has always been. There are really smart devs on boths sides so yes venguard will be bypassed in some matter then vanguard fixes it, then it will be bypassed again and so on. Its an never ending cycle
