I've been working out since 10 years now and was always scared of squats, I started training my legs, focusing primarily on deep squats and within 1.5 years I can see massive development in my quads. So squats are necessary!!!
I squatted 3x a week no leg extension no leg press nothing else just RDL’s and Hamstring Machine curls for Hamstrings. My Quads ad Glutes blew up could wear my old Pants. 170kg 1 RM. Also I focus on Powerlifting. But Squat is the king if someone wants to gain mass on thighs. Bs just dont do them once a week nahi toh hmesha sore hogey after workout aur chala nahi jayega. Volume divide kr k 3 bar karo your legs will get sore for a week or two uske baad legs laga k feel bhi nahi hoga jo pain hoti after training legs. And you will not hate training legs anymore.

Sorry but a good hack squat machine will always be better than free weight squats due to added stability and exclusion of other muscles. So if you are doing hack squats you will not stop when your lower back start to get fatigued as in the case of barbel squat At the end, what matters is intensity. Choose a quad exercise that you love the most, take the set near failure and take 3-5 minute rest.
I train legs twice a week and I would say both are great exercises. Heavy days I start off with free squats and on lights day hack squats for reps. I enjoy the free squat more though because of the skill required to properly engage, brace and balance your core. Only problem with free sqauts though is that people don't leave their ego aside and try to go heavier than they should then injuring themselves. Hack squats totally isloate your lower body and is great for reps and burn. Combine strength and bodybuilding rep range and you will great results

Barbell squats is my fav exercise...it increases your testosterone 🔥💪

Pull-ups is not inefficient but it's not a mandate as well. It's just equalls to the lat pull downs .
