  • A step by step process on tidying up a 1uz throttle body off a non-vvti engine so Gen 1 or Gen 2. This process can be used with both stock ECU and aftermarket ECU using both the stock idle air control (IAC) or an aftermarket unit. I also include two different ways of setting the throttle position sensor.

Once i have a better idea of the direction im taking this build (turbo/supercharged) ill be in contact. Man have your videos helped me! Between the ufc20 wiring, the coolant line delete, and this video I have been able to really simplify my swap. I did decide to put it in my mk3 supra instead of the mk2. It's a much less involved swap. Just got done cutting the TRAC parts off my throttle body and about to head to the hardware store for the right barb and tap. Just gonna thread a plug in the backside being I will be running stock ECU. I know I've said it before but thanks a million and I can't wait to see more!

      If you listen very carefully in some of my wiring videos I mention that the traction control and non traction control ecus are the same, with the difference in the harness. I know how to mode the harness to convert them to non traction control. If this isnt done then there will most likely be issues. The useless info I know.

    I've got a couple questions about this mod Kelvin.
    Will I be able to retain cruise control with this mod?
    Can i delete the coolant lines to the stock IAC?
    Does the valve cover breather on the throttle body side need to be returned or can it be vented to atmosphere with the TB nipple blanked or ran to a catch can plumbed in along with the pcv? (I already have a full egr block off plate so the pcv doesn't get returned anymore)
    Set up is currently not boosted but plans are in the future.
    Thanks, Ian

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello Ian
      Yes cruise control can be retained.
      Yes the coolant lines can be removed from the iac.
      correct PCV removal is on my list of videos. So many people dont understand the system and get it wrong like yours doing more harm than good. While I prefer to keep the system in place and working as it aids in both engine running and power it can be removed if required. A catch can with vents to both tappet covers is best. Especially if boosted large lines into both tappet covers.
      Cheers

      Good morning. For the plugs for the coolant ports the back one is the blank rubber from the front of the IAC (JDM spec, No EGR). The front coolant ports we alloy welded up although it would be simple to either lathe up some blanks or I have also tapped them and screwed in some grubscrews. Cheers

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  Před 5 lety

      @@charley240sx there are two air fittings in the TB which were blanked with lathed up plugs. One was for the supply to the purge vsv and on the race car TB we blanked the engine breather. On the other one the engine breather was left alone. We just machined up some alloy plugs for these. The waterlines to the TB were sanded off completely just to make it look better. Cheers

      Hello. This is a throttle body mod. I made the video so guys can sort their TB out themselves but I do modify some at times for local customers. The idle speed is on the front of the plenum and if everything is wired correctly there can be an idle up for A/c and cold. That is contained in management

    Hello CartuneNZ,
    I'm unable to calibrate my sub throttle position sensor on my 92 sc400 and I believe it may be due to the same issue as you described at time 1 min 55 sec (you mentioned the butterfly valve is shifted upwards and upon inspection, mine is also open half way at idle and closes by pushing/ pressing upwards). I believe this is the reason that the pins on the sub throttle position sensor are shifted and not aligned the same way as the throttle position sensor. I tried testing for continuity at the e2 and idl termials like you showed in this video but the sensor is positioned so far forward that it reads infinite resistance. Is there a way to reposition the butteryfly valve? Any advice would help and would gladly support your patreon page.
    Best Regards,
    Pawel

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  Před 4 lety +1

      I would be removing the sensor to test on the bench. If the issue is the butterfly shaft then there is a major issue. I see it lots where the sensor is incorrectly fitted too.

      Not really, maybe they can be polished if you wanted. I prefer to leave the water lines on as the cooling system bleeder is on the TB on the 1uz VVti TB(thats the hex head blanker on top). I did have one recently which the water lines weren't connected but not my preference. 3uz VVti TB is pretty basic and the tidier of the units. There is nothing extra like traction control and no external IAC as thats sorted by the drive by wire so I leave both the 1uz VVti and 3uz VVti throttle bodies standard. Cheers
