Something about the combination of the chill beats and "if you come to fight then fight!" is so nice...

Real shit, especially competing in sports.

Don't play like you're afraid to lose, play like you're afraid you won't win.

    I'm going to EVO because
    1. It's right in my backyard
    2. I can't sit there and wait until I'm an expert before I go
    3. I'm 47 years old and can't wait forever to keep those promises to my younger self
    4. Playing in tournament is an experience you can only get from... playing in tournaments.

Well first of all, you can enjoy EVO even as a spectator, probably even more than as a player actually. Second, realistically, most of us wouldn't make it far and most certainly wouldn't win against the top players. I don't know what your overall goal is, but if it's just to get the tournament experience, then yeah do it. Worst case scenario, you lose early and have more free time to see everything else. Also, if I was that close to EVO, I'd probably go almost every year.

@@AIKnowYou Yeah I went last year as a spectator. This is about getting the experience of going to a major as a competitor though.

I'm going in with the mindset to give other players a run for their money. If I can give every player I face a hell of a fight then I win even if I lose.

Biggest hurdle is nerves, getting those tourney nerves under control to the point where you're just as clear headed as if you're playing online in your skivvies is where you wanna get

That confidence is everything. If you like playing like a lunatic then do so, abuse those plus frames to hell and back. Kusoru reached top level in GGX2 with a style that looks like someone just felt like pressing a button for fun. Get knocked down, get back up.

This is the realest shit ever 💯 people underestimate tournaments till they go and experience it. To everyone who comes across this video. Go to locals 🙌🏻 its a truly humbling experience. If you don’t let it deter you from improving yourself. It’ll take you to the next level 💯

My biggest problem is this whole thing, cause then I get some of the worst habits from dealing with some garbage and then my brain has to switch right back when someone who actually wants to play the game comes in. It’s so up and down

I look up to your tourney mindset! I have a tendency to overthink and it causes me to play too passive instead of playing how you I know or using instincts

Tournament competition (of any sport) is a different beast. And you aren't prepared for it until you start playing in it. And the part of executing your strategy no matter what is so true. In my last Judo competition, I deviated from my strategy because I had the audacity to thought I had an opening that wasn't considered in it, and I lost instantly. It's brutal

  • @shinobiwannabe
    @shinobiwannabe Před 2 měsíci +1

The biggest difference is that tournament goers are much better players and half the field gets cut out after the first round.
If you make it past first round losers you’re already in the top 50% of the field.
My region isn’t even that big and most everyone is is diamond and above and I’m chilling there as a plat player

Yea playing in the comfort of your home on your set up doing ranked against the average unga Ken is nothing compared to offline tourneys where you feel the pressure of the crowd and the occasion at first. You just have to live with it.
Unless you're Mena then you smoke everyone either way haha

I feel like the opposite of this. The first 'big' offline event I attended (GOML 2023), I went 4-2 and even when I was eliminated I wasn't salty. Playing online events, I don't do that well on average but I'm typically not too upset, even after losing 0-2. Meanwhile, when I played Ranked I get very frustrated.

Imagine the sweatiest online player. Now imagine them 1000x sweatier. And that’s your average tournament player. They’re the kind of people who will insist on doing their combo even though you have no board and hand, just to revel in joy as they force you to scoop.

I also feel like tournaments where its 2 out of 3, you could easily get "random out" by a player who really isnt even playing at high level. I feel like those losses hurt the most haha
