There's two things you were right about that i faced so hard between starting my competitive journey at CEO and continuing from this recent CEOTAKU. 1.) It really isn't easy. You're gonna get your ass kicked. You're gonna have days where you play at the absolute peak of your skill and it isn't enough. You will meet faster learners, better players and more talented people. 2.) Your ego will die. It will. Even if you think you don't have an ego or don't notice it you're gonna come to a point where you realize you were never as skilled as you thought you ever were and you're gonna constantly wonder if the effort you're putting in has returns. But I really do want it. So im gonna continue competing. Because as much as it has hurt, its also been the best journey hands down.
Hearing this helped me improve my manon play. Thanks Strider
801 Strider uploading content on YT and I’m all here for it! Cheers my friend!
More to come!
That was real deep stuff. Not just about succeeding at SF6 but anything in life. I think it's more valuable to hear about the struggles rather than success. Thanks for sharing.
the fgc is a cool place, you'll hear names like 801strider from tournament coverage, other discussions, etc. and think nothing of it until you stumble upon the guy's channel on YT and realize he's actually a really down to earth dude who feels the same way about these games that you do. props to you for the vibes man
you hit the nail on the head about all the good things that come from giving a shit for no reason other than because you do. it's true, one big reason im here playing sf6 rn is because i regret not doing this with tennis earlier in my life. I have to spend the rest of my life wondering "what if I had done 100%? what would that have looked like? what meaningful lessons would i have learned? what new experiences would i get?" and that shit is PAIN lol
but yeah this fgc stuff has really been a redemption arc so I can find out the answer, even if it's in somewhere entirely new. (also it's been 8 months total with fighting games and i've gone as far as to beat a few master ranks... if your intentions are pure your progress really will be otherworldly :P )
Thanks for sharing, best of luck on your FG journey, just remember it's one step at a time
Great stuff. Applies to all things like you said. I recently (4 years ago) started Jiu Jitsu at 35 years old. It was the single most humbling experience of life… it’s not that you’re just repeatedly losing, you’re getting *PHYSICALLY SMASHED.* it’s psychologically a different animal than any other competition. And yet the same lessons apply in BJJ as in SF6. You have to put in the time and you have to be deliberate with your training. You can’t just show up and expect that suddenly you’ll be a black belt; it requires not just time but a LOT, A LOT of effort, and a lot of getting beat down and your ego repeatedly destroyed.
Until one day you choke someone out and you’re like “huh…. That actually worked…” just like that day you finally make that read and go full punish combo into level 3 for the win.
It’s the same in all things in life. The more *deliberate* work you out into things, the better you get at them. Lifting, fitness, music, gym, sports, and fighting games
Appreciate this video. I think my confidence breaks easily but hearing you explain it made it obvious how much of an issue that really is. Just played a match and while getting smoked in the corner, I was able to keep calm thinking of your advice. Will keep working on it. Thank you!
9:05 BARS 🔥 being a better you translates into so many other things
A lot of really great advice here. Great content!
There are a lot of good lessons in this. I definitely needed to hear this. My mindset has been terrible, especially as of late.
thanks for the soothing words. happy new years to you
That real talk 🔥
How do you expect to win when you didn't even know how you lost🤔
this is the talk I needed to hear. Loving the content Strider. thanks for all the work you do.
Very very true
This is actually solid advice for quite literally any fighting game. Glad you're still grinding hard!
My biggest SF memory with Strider was him whooping me for 23 matches in a row in SF4 with C. Viper, but when I was about to win the 24th he turned off the console. Glad to see ya doing well, instantly subbed and am gonna keep an eye up on your channel!
Glad to watch a video from you! Great stuff!
Super helpful video, needed to hear a lot of what was said in it. Went from being a decent player in sfv to having my first 0-2 in tournament and not getting close to a top 8 in any sf6 event since launch. The experience was frustrating at first but it’s been humbling too, need to sit and figure out what the steps to take are.
It be like that, sometimes the hardest thing is to start from scratch when we had progress. Trust the process and keep the grind up
Solid thumbnail
I'm with you strider. It's a hobby! For the love of games but I want to be good at it enough to compete at a high level. It's ironic I'm a psychologist and the ego death needed to happen for progress to start. I've lost so much in ranked and against other stronger people so much it's made me want to quit fgs all together "like what's the point". I was linking myself worth to the game. After taking a break I was burning with even more passion
Fan since your hype moment against Daigo usf4 time great to see you grinding the CZcams
100% facts...Great video man
This is the first sf game I’ve “learned to play” last sf game I played was sf2 when there wasn’t combos lol. I started Iron 2 and now I’m gold 5. All I want is to reach plat 1 to be semi satisfied for now 😜. Love the manon your the shit keep it up
Thanks man.
I know you are a street fighter player but the advice applies to any game or life. Ive wasted hours in valorant not getting better till I actively tried to improve with vod review rather than playing to play. Great video
Deliberate training will always beat out mindless grind hours, regardless of the field
I find you actually need an ego to let go of your ego in a weirdly contradictory way. Like you have to believe that you can improve if you let go and invest in the vulnerability of learning. I learned more in the last 3 months of learning sf6 without getting overly upset than i did the first 2 years of getting tilted and not understanding why i was losing after just queuing ranked while pissed. I think i was insecure and only when i realized i actually had potential did i calm down. Picked up sfv during covid and i been ass for a while but i just hit master this weeek! First time hitting top rank in a game outside of card games like hearthstone and magic! Great video!
Thanks for sharing and congrats on your rank!
Hell yeah! Analog!
I’m currently working on learning cammy. I often play in the battle hub and get absolutely destroyed by masters and diamonds and my skill is barely increasing. I think it’s important to play better players but I think that notion needs a caveat.. the two players can’t be worlds apart in skill because in that instance the weaker player barely learns anything.. Idk if any of you train irl, but a white belt fighting against a black belt does very little for the whites growth . But a white belt verses a blue belt or purple does great things for you, even though they also destroy the white belt. (If your belts are based on skill not participation)
My biggest obstacle is that I self sabotage. I'll stop trying mid game and just troll because it's easier to not take it serious than lose while trying. Later I feel bad because I know I need to actually try or I'll never reach my goal which is Master 1700 MR
1700 is a good goal! I’m scared to get master until I feel ready,
1:40 Then you either accept that you won't improve from this point because you can't put the time in and find a way to enjoy yourself at this level, or you make the bandwidth.
It doesn't take much. Couple hours here and there can make a world of difference. I've done it myself in my own hobbies and personal pursuits. I love bowling. I travel for it, make money from it, spend downtime studying it. Is it hard when life gets busy and I can't put as much time into it? Yes. Do I get worse at it when I'm unable to practice or study as much? Yes, and I accept that as a reality of life and enjoying my hobby. But I also know that making the time to improve when I can is way more important to me than accepting being at this level for forever.
Just gotta do it.
did you drop manon or is marisa a pocket pick?
Commenting for engagement.
Put me in a headlock please.
I'm just wondering... why are you playing 50/50 characters (grapplers) ?
The ego stuff is really on point. I learn a lot when my first playing fighting game on SF4. Coming from playing team based game such as Lol, ego can pretty overwhelming you because you thought you already good enough but in reality someone just carry it for you. In FG, no one could carry you. Even your ego couldn't help you at this point. You need to work yourself out. That is why to this day I think fighting game is the best competitive game out there. It's learning method could teach you and also you can apply in real life. I love FGC because of this.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for this Strider
Hit a plateau recently as Zangief and just ... it fucked with my head, debated rerolling
yet gief is the only character I truly resonate with
also really need to get back to pro wrestling training
the real fighting, is with your own brain XD
In the case of Zangief you are fighting an uphill battle with the game system's too, don't delude yourself even snake eyez didn't go to evo because Zangief has so many extremely slanted MUs
Keep it up!
Step 1 - DON'T GET MIXED UP
Step 2 - ???
Step 3 - Win EVO

1:40 I think that is 🧢 for the large majority of ppl how you do one thing is how you do ALL things and why you should strive to always improve.
Im the superior person… in real life. 😏
