  • Brave are developing a new privacy focused and neutral (not politically skewed) search engine as an alternative to the big tech offerings in Silicon Valley.
    Brave Search started out life as a being developed by Cliqz, who own Ghostery.
    At the moment Brave Search is sign up only.

    Wonder how this will compare with the decentralized Presearch search engine...if it ever comes out of beta ! :)

      For me presearch will remain nr1, but lets see

      Brave search is obviously centralized and Presearch is supposed to be decentralized. At the moment presearch isn’t even open source, it just promises to be in the future. The most critical thing on building a search engine is to remove malicious results and keyword spam, on centralized search engines this is moderately difficult task, but if they are planning to generate the search index on user machines, that leaves an option for anyone to replace the search index with their own and fill the ”official” search with spam. Presearch has some white papers, but at the moment there’s just hype about their cryptocurrency and nothing about the distributed search. At the moment Presearch isn’t anything more than a cryptocurrency filled overhyped proprietrary (with a promise of opening soon) Searx-like metasearch engine. I wouldn’t trust it and I’ll keep using Searx until I see if they manage to keep their promises 😃

    So far, it's an awesome search engine. I was one of the many people that got to see it first via Email. Will see more of it in the coming months.

    It is public as of today. It is so frigging fast compared to google. Been waiting for a true google contender for years.

      Yandex has been around all these years. Bing is not bad either. Image search of Bing and Yandex is unbeatable

    If I remember the URL, I go directly to it.

    I'll keep an eye on this. But sticking with duckduckgo for now.

      @vittopo786 Před 2 lety +1

      So, keep using Bing. Duckduckgo uses Bing search

    • @qolorblind
      @qolorblind Před 2 lety +3

      @@vittopo786 so THAT’S why the search results are so fucking awful. I tried DuckDuckGo, but I’d never find what I actually wanted whenever I was searching for something relatively specific, so I switched back to Google - even with all the issues they present.

    • @vittopo786
      @vittopo786 Před 2 lety

      @@qolorblind The Bing's results are NOT that bad. Sometimes Bing gives better results than Google. It's a Russian roulette

    • @vittopo786
      @vittopo786 Před 2 lety

      @@qolorblind Actually, sometimes Bing provides BETTER results than DuckDuckGo, especially if the settings are US English.
      Duck duck needs rebranding badly. So many times did I try to start using it but every time I got back to Bing or Google.

    I think you can make a video to talk about privacy and censorship, because some privacy first search engine use some search from big tech company, and that's really bother me.

    It would be great if brave browser defaulted to the brave search engine. Unfortunately it is not even listed as an option. Yet.
