- I’ve just started working on a Python Script to analyse web pages in order to identify tracking and advertising domains.
It’s early days and needs many more YARA rules to actually carry out the analysis.

Glad you are back. I work from home also and sometimes it sucks just looking at the same walls everyday while working or playing. I go for a walk every day that I can and that seems to help.

That's weird with the restrictions. I didn't pay attention what is happening in UK, but in Central Europe, things went back to normal for the summer, at least most of them, because there were so few new sick people every day (at least in Poland). Now the new wave is coming, but it's developing very slowly, so we still have no obvious restrictions. The biggest issues are with the crossing borders. I didn't hear about someone being forced to sit at home anywhere, so it surprised me that you had to do that.

Good to see your making new videos again. I hear you on the pandemic being a downer, but a bit of advice from a healthcare practitioner: Get vaccinated if you haven't already done so, wear an N95 mask everywhere indoors (outside of home) and at crowded outdoor locations, ditch the mask outdoors otherwise, and eat outdoors and then you can otherwise live a completely normal life. See friends and family, travel, shop, go to concerts, fly on planes, attend lectures. We've done all of that and more in the last few months since vaccination. No reason to feel imprisoned these days. It really raises the spirits. Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to more of your videos in the future!

Like the concept of the NoTrack. Just an observation, but looks like a stripped down version/clone of PiHole? Or something that can be run along side PiHole as additional blocking?
I have a different objective to PiHole, they wanted to block ads, whereas I wanted to block trackers. Although both projects run in pretty much the same way.
Perhaps you can add my tracker blocklist into PiHole gitlab.com/quidsup/notrack-blocklists
Good to hear you didn't succumb to the Big C. I was hoping you'd make a video about the whole debacle with Apple scanning for naughty pictures on people's phones. It's always nice to get your opinion on these types of things!

This looks like it could turn into a very nice tool for analysis, detection etc.
grep with regex is very fast at identifying and/or dumping any string you can write a matching RegEx filter for. It can search text files/stdin.
@Terminalforlife (LL) The bash regex support behaves differently depending on platform and available libraries.
Moving targets are not the best for scripting unless you enjoy bug fixing and maybe even maintaining separate execution paths for each platform and library combination.
Ah yes I remember the joys of regex in Bash, doing some basic matching was good enough. Speed wasn't great as has been mentioned already

@quidsup 5:30 actually you CAN run chrome (or chromium maybe) in a headless mode. I had it running page performance analysis in an Ubuntu server (no UI). Let me know if you can't find how to do it and I'll try to dig back in my projects history
