    Shawn, I don't know if you still read these comments...you got so many great videos/lessons---but your methods are VERY intuitive. I've been playing for 25+ years, with an almost 20 year hiatus, so my son in a HS golf team, and I've been trying to hone my game over the last year--getting back into it. Cut to the chase---there are tons of videos, and youtube especially, with incredible lessons...many of which work very well...but they are not very intuitive at all. My best example is the Driver swing...where as the club approaches the ball, I've learned to 'lift' up, and I've learned to 'push up and away with my left leg'...and I try to sway slightly away from the ball as I release...this has worked well...and it is very COMPLICATED....AND it has done some significant damage to my iron game...mostly because I feel very mechanical and sometimes very confused...and there's virtually no intuition. I'm wondering, after all this rambling, if your still reading---that there are methods, theories, and ways of swinging that ARE NOT for the average player? Because I've really began to get back my iron accuracy with your VERY SIMPLE target change...not the ball...but out there! Anyways, complicated and prolonged question...but it just seems that maybe, while some lessons are spot-on...they may not be for those of us with average talent...and we may be doing more damage than good.

      What you are experiencing is the fact that humans on this planet do not learn well when thinking "internally" or by "body part thinking" we are terrible at this as it interferes with so many of our automated systems we already have gifted to us by the almighty...
      What we do extremely well is react to "external focus" such as "cutting grass with the sole of the club" or "Chopping a tree down with an axe" or sending a ball to a target; once we have the right task, and we are able to practice it with focus, we can get AMAZING with it; and this reasearch is DECADES OLD and the golf industry has yet to catch on! See "attention and motor skill learning" by Dr Gabriele Wulf from UNLV!! And stick to my lessons of course, as we will never steer you wrong as we understand the full ANATOMY-NEUROLOGY and EVOLUTION of humans and their motor skill paterns.

    Shawn, thank you for this video. It cured my driver slice. I watched this video before the last time I went to the range 2 years ago and that, combined with a new Grafalloy Pro Launch Red X-stiff shaft, has kept me night and day straight with my driver. I just picked the game back up, watched this video again, and it just like back then. Keep up the good work, my friend. Ed.

    Shawn, you've helped me again. When you got to the point where you set up and hinge forward to "nail" the ball into the frame, it was like "oh he's using my set up". I have a much nicer draw setting up the way you said, and I've gained 30+yards. I was a major slice, but now I've turned into drawing. Haha. Thanks again Shawn!

    More an element to fine tune. What is so cool is how high my iron shots go & how clean I can hit 'em with your drill. In 7 iron, 100 ball practice from 170 to guarded a postage stamp green, prep for the NCGA Senior Qualifier, it was great to not have to depend on a 7 wood, great to see the ball stop on the green. I missed the cut by 1 stroke. Still I hit some balsy shots and defeated 47 golfers. Need to build confidence but thanks to you I looked pretty darn good out there. Thank you, Shawn.

    Shawn, I want to thank you for demystifying the golf swing with simple, straight forward instruction that is not only easy to understand but with a little practice it has completely rebuilt my swing. Now my problem is distance control. Where I used to use my 48 degree wedge I use my 56 for the same shot. My irons shots climb and accelerate like magic. My driver and 3 woods have each gained amazing distance. I want to add, I do not swing nearly as hard as I used to but when I do WOW!!! Thank You!

    Thank Shawn! I love the driver address position with the club head in front of your sternum. It makes sense and worked for me like a breakthrough in consistency, feel and confidence. Additionally I turn my head slightly left to face the ball head on. That gives me a better feel for the target and a better view of the ball throughout the swing.

    Shawn, I want to thank you for your teaching method. I've been struggling as a 15+ handicap for the past half year, with the past month being the worst of times. I followed your methods, and most recently have shot scores where my differentials are all around 11's instead of over 17+. That's a 6 stroke improvement on average! Amazing. I hope to get down to a 10 this season because of your videos.

I live just outside of Boston, MA, and it's cold... but I couldn't help but to seek out a heated bay driving range (found one in NH!) to try this out. From the very first driver hit using this technique, I hit the ball straight as an arrow, and a LONG way! This video is GOLD if you ask me! I sincerely thank you!

    Awesome video!!! Thank you Shawn for posting a video that does not show the "traditional" way of hitting a driver like all of the other videos I see on youtube. Since the beginning I have either sliced or faded my driver shots and could not figure out how to fix it. I have watched countless videos on youtube on how to hit a driver, but this video is by far the best. I tried Shawn's method yesterday on a high end course and I have never driven the ball so far and straight before. Out of 15 par 4 and 5's I only missed one fairway. The method might be unconventional but you will see result. I know I did. All of my friends could not believe how I was driving the ball. They thought I took some miracle drug the night before. Lol Thanks again Shawn keep up the great work!

    Shawn I had a problem with exactly this, my driver would always slice and to correct that I did as you illustrated in your video by placing my hands unnaturally far forward. After I watched this video and your swing plane video I had to try it out at my local driving range. By starting with my position in my center, behind the tee it has had immediate improvements and my drive is oh SO much straighter! Thank you Shawn, you have cured my frustrations! You the man!

I love your free swinging bluter through the ball and am trying to work out if you are reverse pivoting or not. Your right leg is straight at the top of the swing and then your butt makes a big move back to the target. It really is an extrodinary move and it works beautifully with very high hands through the ball.

    @wesvisser1963 Smoking great question Wes! Thank you for that and I was expecting it and I am glad it came from you which means that you are ripe! :)
    This is my STRAIGHT DRAW position; I would go a 1/2 ball back of that for a stronger draw and a 1/2 ball forward for the fade;
    Second, all you need to do to find YOUR BALL POSITION is to set yourself up against a door frame or wall corner with a ball and FEEL THAT YOU WILL BE USING THE WEIGHT OF THE ARM-CLUB UNIT TO COMPRESS THE BALL INTO IT!

The area of my game where I have the most trouble, which seems to be trouble for most average golfers, is the area of long irons 2-4. Shawn,
    True Story, I started playing golf for only 2 months. I brought Callaway X Hot Pro Driver with a Stiff Shaft. I was struggling with this Driver. 80% of the time, it would slice far right and I couldn't figure out a way to fix it until I saw this video of yours. Today I went to play 18 holes. I tried it your method and place the Club Head half foot to 1 foot away from the Ball. I could not believe I hit at least 10 shots either into the Fairway or near the fairway. I had 3 260+ yards.

    @srvfan25 G-15 is solid; the new Titleist line is pretty awesome now though because it is the most accurate driver and fairway wood line for adjustability now; you can add 1.5 degrees without opening or closing the face...really solid! So now I have 2 great drivers! Shawn

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  Před 13 lety

    @richl777 Yes; it is a combination of the loft and width of my driver head in relation to me using the weight of the arm-driver unit to compress the ball against the door frame; if you do the same with a 5 wood, you will see that the ball will come back in the stance;
    If you want to draw it with the driver, you will bring it back another 1/2 ball width at the most;
    All the best for the Holidays as well and for the New year! Shawn

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  Před 11 lety

    I made a nice addendum to this video called "high draw bomb driver shawn clement" Get ready to release to the target and feel like the tip of the tee is in the way of this release; it has a nice feel of continuity in the swing and you will see much more through the shot and be able to stay with the shot for the duration...

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  Před 12 lety

    If you look at my "one leg drill shawn clement" and "one leg drill part 2 shawn..." you will see that the centre of gravity changes with the feet positioning; when you drop the right foot back, you also counter balance that outward pull of the arm driver unit. Moe Norman did the same thing; they were both shorter people with long arms for their height. Shawn

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  Před 13 lety

    @pokerlife123 It actually depends on a couple more things; do you have a wide stance? This would pull your centre a bit more back from the ball and get you the same effect; do you have a higher loft (10.5) with closed face? It can also be your perception of that ball position too...anyways; if you are crushing it, enjoy! :)

    @wesvisser1963 Yes; I know!! Why do you think it took this long for even me to figure out! The door frame was the lightning bolt of awareness that jolted my conscious mind to finally observe properly what was happening through impact; but the feel is very key here: You are using the weight of the arm-driver unit to compress the ball against the doorframe; you have to imagine what that would be like as you perform this in slow motion and it will come to you...:) Love this game!!

    What matters is that the ball is in the position that matches the picture of the flight you want to give it; you have way more flexibility with the irons because of loft and give in the grass and ground; once you have the desired flight and have positioned the door frame, then you can start the club either with the ball or a few inches back; I tend to place the club a couple inches back with the irons...

    Shawn, great videos and i think you are an amazing teacher! I wish you had a clone of yourself here in Chicago because i would definitely take lessons. I have a problem and that is i just can't seem to hit my driver! Let me rephrase that, 80% i can't hit my driver. Shawn, here is my question, what is the key difference between an iron swing and a driver swing??? I am playing really well with my irons but i can't seem to hit my driver. Can you please tell me a key diff between iron/driver swing?

    @clemshaw WOW 1st time a actually hit this driver straight. I watched the video about strong/weak grip and then tried it a the range.at first a was kind of struggling with it but then it came together. when I got it down it helped me figure out that I was doing some other things wrong also.I was going to much to the inside during the backswing cause problems with my hands, if the make any sense
    anyways ill keep watching your videos (weakgrip,hogans powermove,stacked and balanced) and keep pra

    @63dodged100 The Taylor made drivers as well as many other brands of drivers have 2 different kinds of shapes now; one for High moment of inertia and the other more traditional; you went from traditional to high moment of inertia which is totally different; the remedy is simple; you shut the face down at address and feel like you are going to hook the ball; pick where you want to start the ball (right centre of fairway) and release that way; then observe! Tweak until you get a straight draw!

    hi Shawn
    I like the vd and couldn't wait to try it out at the range.
    As you pointed out, this is what Moe Norman used to do. However, i believe he did it for his iron as well. Is there any reason why you haven't recommended the same setup for iron at the moment?
    By placing the club 6+ inches behind the ball, does it mean that the club face stay square for more than just at the impact point?
    Thanks,
    Teck

    Hi Shawn, Ive changed my whole game based on your techniques and improved my game no end, Many Thanks. Now I'm trying to master the driver Ping Rapture v2 12 Deg. Question - On address (club centre) looking down at ball, I never know on setup if face of driver should be in line with ball or slightly more forward, so on the way through impact I wont send the ball out to the left as my arch has already bottomed out? any help appreciated. ta in advance.

    @MrBikedrummer Před 11 lety

    I love the logic in your teachings. Why do you think the Pros address the ball with the driver head against it vs. bottom of arc as you have shown? Yours makes sense. I have been trying to hit up with the driver and addressing ball with head against it. I put too much backspin and seem to hit down on it///possibly reaching.

    Gotta say shawn, your swing is a little unorthodox but it just looks so easy and relaxed. Such a beautiful swing :)

    Hey Shawn, Great stuff. Just a thought your 'feel the weight of the hammer' philosophy. Modern woods and drivers are so damn light, nearly half the weight of irons. I find it hard to get the same feel, though your general idea of 'hoisting' the club up into the backswing has helped my feel tremendously. Any thoughts appreciated. Stormin.

    Totally feel! One of my fellow pros came in with one and I gave it a whirl and it was instant love! Took 10 swings and crushed them all; my order was in the next day!

    Hi Shawn, I love your videos, they have helped me quite a bit...question I have for you...I notice when you address the ball with the driver, you have it set back towards the middle of your stance, even though your ball is lined up with your big toe, is there a reason for that?

    shawn I'm new to the sport and I understand that it takes time to master your swing. That being said I've tried and tried to not shank right but it just seems to happen on my drive mostly and my lower irons. Is me being only 5'7 affect my swing? also what videos do you recommend to slow it down for me. thanks stephen

    Just close the face a good 20 to 30 degrees and see how the ball flies when you release the club upwards and to the right of your target to draw the ball; see 'High draw driver shawn clement"; woods have a different balance point to irons and depending on the one you have you may need to close the face more than with the irons.

    Shawn, My left foot wants to slide or rotate about 45-90 degrees as I come through the ball and when I finish my foot is pointing forward. In this video your left foot stays very static. What are you thoughts on what causes the front foot to want to spin?

    Moe is a amazing person / his own person / one of kind! I was very fortunate to meet him and see him hit golf balls, God only knows how many PGA events and majors he may have won - if Hogan and the other pro’s would of accepted him and didn’t make fun of him! He hurt the golf ball and it looked simple, effortlessly but the ball exploded off his club face! He showed me his club face and there was small dot on his face - where he made contact with the ball - so seeing this I though this was a new club - he looked at and only as Moe could do or say - heck no that’s one of my older clubs! I must of hit over 10k balls with that club! I looked at the face again particularly looking at that spot which to me was no bigger than a dime or penny! Thank you for all you do and your love of the game and sport which you teach and play!

    Hi Shawn, You have helped me so much ...so first off thank you! I hit some great shots and of course some bad ones, people tell me I have a great golf swing, I am 62 and was blessed with a athletic body, early years a gymnast. Well my question is...I can hit my 3 wood sometimes just as far as my driver...what is up with that?? Is it me not getting my lower body into the swing? Once again...thank you for all the vids, can I make a donation? cheers ...Walt

    Hi Shawn, Do you have any personal preference when buying a brand of driver or do you base it just on what feels and works well for you?
    I'm using a G5 Ping driver and the local Ping Pro said there is probably 2% enhancement between the G2, G5, G10 and G15.
    I'm usually a sucker for the latest hype but have had this older driver for about a year now and find it as good as any other that I have owned. Just wondered what your opinion is.

    Hi Shawn
    Enjoy your teaching. Struggling with this video. I draw the ball naturally and started using this video to hit the driver. However I started to badly hook the ball every 4th drive. Went to see the local pro and he moved my club to behind the ball instead of that distance you have between club and ball. This has stopped the hook and given me a nice booming drive. Who is right? best james from sunny london UK

    Sorry about the typo - Actually that last line should have been, I've told many players about your instructional videos here on you tube. Every player who ventured to ask, how do you do that? I tell them about your clear the hips drill. I've even applied that to my wedges and am starting to get some calculable back spin. SO . . . yes it is a fun problem to have.

    Mr. Clement....An epiphany just happened, a click, whatever you want to call it. You have a video for compressing the ball and you speak of the hands being forward the ball. I'll try to make this quick. I went out and did it and it was just awesome the way I had the tilt, the rotation around the center and the solid contact that just sent the ball boring towards the target and it seemed that the club went automatically. Now I am looking at rip the driver and I was hoping to see the hands forward
