Yeah... He was probably averaging 125 mph with that 43.5" steelshafted driver. He stated that he gained 6 mph when going to 44.5" grafite shaft. I have no trouble believing he would have swung above 130mph back in the day had he have had modern tech.
Back in 1997 the week he won the masters he averaged 323yds off the tee! That was like 70 yds longer than the field average and like 30 yds more that the 2nd person. Btw... Bryson averaged the same distance in 2020. That is all you need to know!!!

Of all of Tiger's accomplishments, even his 2018-19 comeback, we cannot understate how impressive his victory at Torrey Pines was under his health conditions. The pain he was obviously suffering from was evident, yet he still won the toughest tournament in a given year.

He should have never left butch.
He kept changing his swing to create the perfect golf swing. Didn't like the getting stuck with butch, goes to haney. Became more upright and hit more cuts. Doesn't like the fade, goes to Foley.
    And on and on.
If there was a perfect swing it was with butch.
He never should have bulked up, and just did yoga. Would have avoided the back injury if he stuck with butch and maintained more flexibility. Just look at phil and Vijay. Both still have these long flowing swings into their 50s. Still hitting it at pga avg. ball speed.

Spend some time really looking at every little detail of his swing over time and you’ll see it has changed a lot. He had a considerably shorter backswing from ‘96-97, working to change it in ‘98. Some of the footage of the 2000 US open demonstrates the massive rebuild he did. You’ll note that the club was across the line at the top of the swing until ‘99 when he straightened it to be in line with his target. He shallowed his swing with Hank Haney, beginning in 2003. Watch lots of footage particularly of tiger at the Masters (most of the final rounds from the past 50 years are on CZcams, released very graciously by Augusta National). Those are just a few of the many attributes changed during tiger’s swing rebuilds. Once you watch plenty of footage you’ll begin to appreciate the changes in his swing and the fundamentals and attributes of other players and their swings, and the subtle but very significant differences us golf nuts pick up on, i find it very interesting. Especially with Tiger, because it shows a) how exceptionally talented he is to use 5 very different swings and win at the highest level with each of them (Luke Donald attempted 1 swing rebuild and hasn’t won on the PGA tour since then) and b) the different philosophies of the golf swing with each of the coaches he worked with. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.
