I know the Brits love to give Americans a hard time about the name football, but it all stems from there being different types of football in England (rugby football or ruggers and association football or... you guessed it... soccer!)... American football grew out of rugby football, we made it our own, the Brits stopped calling soccer soccer and it's been a hotbed of contention ever since!
