  • This video is devoted to the thousands of horses out there that are being made to perform in pain. I hope it makes people more aware of listening to their horses, keeping an open mind and investigating always. Go to the problems index on my website for a detailed article on the signs of injuries and pain. Under the Veterinary section

    Great video, makes me very thankful for my Dutch Gelding. I bought him as my FEI Dressage prospect at 11, he HATED his former trainer, was rife with issues and trust and rejected dressage. (No one listened to him) After years with me, he's a perfect gentleman, but we do all disciplines now for fitness. Amazing on trail, great man in the ring, even did 1m40 Jumpers. Now 23, he's moving better than ever and sound/happy. Loved this video. It takes time and love/empathy/compassion.

    What an excellent video HP. Hopefully people can be open minded enough to learn from it instead of thinking they already know everything.

    Thanks. This is an immense subject. There are many crippled horses going around due to ridden inadequacies which fail to equip the horse to athletically carry a rider and handle the Dressage requests. That is in fact in plague proportions. Regards

    Many thanks Ultimate. Nice to hear your horse was saved. We have two more cases now. $17,000 and $9700. Both Vet checked but the poor Vets don't ride them so they are a little exposed there. regards

    I was given an OTT TB that was very underweight with a lot of problems...his eating and weight picked up, not to mention less of a head toss, when we got a chiro out who fixed up his back, poll and -dislocated jaw- !!! It's amazing the ignorance of some people and the pain that they will miss =*(

    as I said above Fox. Pelvic fracture added to the list but mainly stifle or sacro issues. Lower back. Not leg problems. All above the hocks and behind the saddle.

    Thanks Paul. Sadly, just today already, we have another. $8000 purchase, Vet checked on two occasions and visably locking up on the offside back stifle with spasms clearly evident thereafter. Bad conformation probably the cause. Regards

    After diagnosis, what kind of success rate are you seeing for the horses recovery from injury/pain? Or do you mostly try to rehome these horses in to 'pleasure' work?
    Good video, got us thinking now I'm sure!

    When i want my horse to get into a canter I really have to push her into one with my body, sometimes even have to grab her main for a second so that she will. She is really hard to get into a canter

    Oh dear, you just answered my questions about Velvet, when she rides at a canter she flags her tail, and bucks occationally...
    ***not my horse btw***
    When I tell my friend to get the vet out, how do we get the vet to see her problems, how can we be for sure??
    I really need to know, she can be such a sweet horse at times, but I do not know how to help her in something like this, I have a video if you would like to judge it, I had her take them yesterday...

    I just bought an ex race horse off the track and even when he runs in the arena he doesn't run straight. He loves to play in the arena but his Head & body turns from one side to the other. The vet said he was sound, but I'm beginning to wonder if they missed something. haven't ridden him yet though because of it.

  • @horseproblems
    @horseproblems  Před 17 lety

    certainly the Racing Industry breaks them. We mustn't forget that their body has not yet formed and consolidated then either. Normally is is sacroilliac tears, patella problems, bone chips and calcification. However, incorrect riding also makes horses unsound in other ways. We have one here now.

    So what kinds of actual problems cause this pain? Is it just general weakness in the topline, or deeper problems up in the back hips? Joint mis-alignment? Are these all caused by different things, or is there one or two general problems that you find in these horses?

  • @zabistenin
    @zabistenin Před 11 lety

    Ok, I might misunderstand. Are you riding just to find out if it's a true health issue, or do you treat them by riding? Because I hear a lot of ''he's in pain, he's sweating from pain and stress'' etc and I don't see why you ride them then. There are other ways to work the horse than to sit on it, make some work by hand to get the muscles adjusted to being long and working correctly, when that can be done without a rider and pain, then you can add the weight of the rider. Why must it be riding?

  • @horseproblems
    @horseproblems  Před 17 lety

    sorry moocow, we are not Vets. Vets rarely ride horses and so are at a disadvantage with issues such as these. When you ride thousands, you can feel it in a flash.
